So I’m a little torn here. Mainly cause I understand both sides. I’m not a fan at all of what 343 did for Infinite. I think is utter BS and absolutely a money grab. HOWEVER, in Halo 5 u had the option to buy things, mostly things you could earn. If you are willing to spend money on things you could earn that are free well thats on you. Buying XP boosts in Halo 5, ya I’m guilty. But I’m not spending money on cosmetics… especially if I can earn them all ready. I want to EARN them, not be handed them. YET, their is 1 exception. Z ND that’s HCS teams. I don’t mind spending $10 USA on that. And that’s because it goes to support players. So no, I don’t get mad seeing people use team gear. But those who drop a fortune on -Yoink!- that should be earned… ya for shame… talking about you @Ken_CTF like others have said… you are the problem. I’m 35 yrs old, have 2 kids, a house, car, and a -Yoink!- ton of other bills. And if you think for 1 sec that I would give my kids money to support something like 343 selling skins and the like… no chance. I work hard for my money. Campaign fine, battle pass fine, after that… well F U 343i. Would rather spend money on my kids then costumes. And u can’t blame 343i for wanting to grab money from these entitled kids who have no clue what it takes to actually make money. Worst part is that the parents take no interest in what the kids are spending their money on.
I totally understand where you’re coming from and I agree with you.
However, I have to adhere to my personal principals and dress up my candy-colored spaceman the way I’ve dressed up my spaceman since Halo 3. I will whale for my cosmetics to dress him up as quickly as possible in the manner I have chosen and then the rest of the cosmetic unlocks are dead to me essentially. I know I’m not helping the situation but my monkey brain wants my armor.
Get that chip off your shoulder bro, when we were kids we bought stickers and stuff. How many “pointless” things did we spend money on?
If my kid wants to buy stuff in his favourite video game with the money he is given then so be it. I’ll be careful to explain to him that in doing so he may be contributing to this kind of business practice which will regrettably result in more free and high quality games released to the public. Should scare him straight.
It’s crazy that the BOTS in the game can have mix and match armours and we can’t. Facepalm!!!
Actually, you should still blame the corporation because they literally hire psychology experts to design systems that are intentionally manipulative. You can victim blame all you like, but not a single fan of the game ever once asked for 343 to hire a psychologist to design predatory monetization schemes. I get you are frustrated, and sometimes it’s easy to blame people who just shell out tons of money, but please understand that these systems were literally designed to be predatory, and that they are succeeding in what they were designed to do.
That makes sense but people if they knew about it, would still feed the cash machine??
A year ago we knew about paying for armour coatings for $5 back then only $5 and people were not happy. Now there $20. Its pure negotiation tactics by the corpate suits at 343. Start of big, much bigger than your actual price and then negotiate lower to make the customer happy. There is no way the battlepass was randomly designed the way it is now. It was planned this high, so when people complain then they will lower the price and people would be happy for it. 343 get to be like “yea we’re on your side” and still end up getting more than what they intended. Changing the price from $20 to $10 people would be greatful but last year it was only $5. Im not saying Boycot halo or 343 but if you cant see what they’re doing and your happy to pay well over the set price for a Colour!! It’s your money, do what you will. After starting this post most of people’s comments proved that money is just an object to them and they would so easily hand it over for some shiny pixels and then there are some few who can see behind the false media and see what is really happening. I mean its basic negotiation 101. I understand that the developers have to make money in some way but like this!! This is just pure emotionless business standpoint and I don’t think it has anything to do with the developers its purely from the big corporate suits at 343 and Microsoft. Theres no way halo fans would stop playing halo but to lock stuff behind paywalls and see people actively rolling over and blindly accepting it like there is no other choice as consumers is so weird. People think that this is the way nowadays and its normal.
People will spend their money how they wish. Your best bet is to accept that.
So far so good… the Battlepass seems to be ticking over and giving me some options. I am not grinding it in any way, shape, or form. Happy to let it tick over organically. I think I’ve swapped out a couple of challenges that didn’t suit the way I like to play… and I’ve dropped 1x boost (but then wasted it when I was distracted by Shang-Chi on the TV).
As for the shop and spending… I am more than happy to spend $20 if / when an armour comes up. OMG if something comes up that is brown with gold highlights (go Hawks)… I’m in like Flynn. But so far nothing has tempted me to open my wallet.
And that is the simple beauty / truth of it… you only have to pay if you think it’s worth it.
So if there is something that should be free like a piece of armour or even colours like you said brown and gold and the only way you can have it is to buy it only. Not even have a way to get it just buy it with real money. I would rather have a way to earn credits in game and use them to get pieces that can be bought. Having things locked behind a pay wall is just bad
I am definitely not passing the buck entirely. I agree with you. However, if the tactic of manipulating consumers did not work, the evil would not exist. There’s enough blame to go around
Paying for colors is just plain stupid… not going to mention the rest but colors? Either this game somehow turn this around or I don’t see many people sticking around much longer…
Thankfully 343 are going to work on it but how I don’t know. Jerry Hook made a tweet about it today. Check it out he talks about the progression system so hopefully they’ll do something about the paywall
That’s a good point as well !
I mean you probably should. I have spent $70 on the game but at least $60 of that was for the campaign. not like 5 armor pieces
Personally, I have no issue with paying for cosmetics - I actually love the idea of a rotating item shop with new, fresh helmets and armor for purchase.
I know there are multiple sides to this argument and there are people who can’t/don’t want to pay for battle pass tiers and I completely agree that the progression and lack of XP is disgusting and needs to be addressed ASAP. That being said, I’m writing this as someone who is ‘pro’ paying for cosmetics.
I understand that everyone has a different outlook on money and everyone’s financial business is their own - but if you are dedicating time to leisurely play or “grind” a video game, you are indeed more fortunate than most people. So why does your opinion get total dominion over those of us who don’t mind paying? At the end of the day it’s an OPTION. If you’re frugal, don’t click the item shop. Pretty simple.
What I do value MORE than money is the minutes of my life. YES, this progression system is dreadful and there are a great slew of problems with this game at the moment. Again, a reason that I’m grateful for the option to purchase tiers of the battle pass. I refuse to sit here and drain my life into this nonsense 50xp at a time. I guess I don’t see it as ‘feeding the machine’ but more so a ‘hat tip to the machine’ for providing an alternate route to enjoying the content while simultaneously not letting Xbox suck away months/years of my actual life.
I find it hard to buy into this item shop hysteria. No one is forcing you to buy any extra cosmetics. They are there as an option for you to spice up your experience. The best thing any of us can do is vote with our dollars. Those of us who do spend money in game, we can only hope that what we put in will fuel Infinite’s fire - helping create and maintain a fun, fresh, exciting experience for years to come.
I mean you probably should. I have spent $70 on the game but at least $60 of that was for the campaign. not like 5 armor pieces
Why should I though? It’s like half a morning of work. Well worth some sets of armour for a game I spend a lot of time playing.
Nah, I have disposable income. If I see a pretty armor, and I really want it, I’ll buy it. I purchased the premium battle pass and a few extra amor sets from the store. I like the game and there’s no random element to unlocking things like Halo 5’s terrible system. Luckily if you don’t like it this aspect doesn’t affect your ability to play the game whatsoever.
I suggest if customization is really what you care about go and play Halo MCC. It’s cheap and includes many other games that will give you your Halo fix for an affordable price.
If you can’t see the problems in it then I think that’s on you
If only it were that simple, Raw_Geansai.
When game systems are design in ways that exploit how human psychology works within all of us (with some being more vulnerable than others) it is not a matter of simply stopping. That’s why this industry is in dire need of regulation to prevent abuses. It’s sad that’s what things have come to over the past decade.
We remember when any extra content sold for a game was actual content, sold scrupulously at honest prices. Healthy, fair transactions. Now we gamers must navigate a mine field of rackets trying to manipulate us into bad purchasing decisions.
What I have found helpful is researching anti-customer monetization trends in the industry to be able to spot the tricks and traps easily. If you dig around for websites about video game addiction and dark pattern gaming, you’ll find some of these resources. Knowledge is protection!
i wonder if anybody and companies realizes how dangerous this can be. funny. ea has hate for loot boxes and considers loot boxes its gambling. yet, when this happens and rockstar gambling mechanics gets free passes. there is no problems. lol.
im concern for the industry now. seeems all the remaining aaa games will have to soon follow this anti path. oh well. bye to aaa market.
