I’ve been playing a lot of Blitz and it seems like the only way to get a really good level is to spend hundreds of dollars and buy your way to the top. I’ve opened over 270 blitz packs and still have level 3 units compared to players who I face daily who have level 8 or above units. I truly believe if you are going to have ranked Blitz playlists that there should be a features which makes the cards hit a level limit so you can’t buy your way to the top of the leader boards.
A good example is I sent in 2 locust (lvl 5 regular, lvl 3 blood-fuel), 2 hunters (lvl 4) and a few grunts (lvl 6) into the ridge where a guy had level 10 blood-fuel locust and a level 11 healer… that single unit took out everything of mine.
This really makes the game not fun for people who have real life responsibilities and have to spend their money elsewhere.
They need a better way to farm packs then just 3 a day.
I’ve played a ton of Blitz and have only seen ~6-10 people with level 10-11 cards and beat most of them. The bigger problem with the card leveling is the huge barrier to entry it puts on new players vs anyone (0 money spent) that’s been playing for weeks/months, which would possibly be ok if the game had a massive player base so matchmaking had decent quality but it’s so low that it puts high ranks vs low ranks all the time by necessity. So you end up with a lot of unfair games. I don’t think they can really do much to reverse course, they likely created the mode partially for the card pack system and people who already spent the money would be angry if they did. It does sour the mode, and I think it’s well designed otherwise.
That said…
- There is a soft cap at level 6, where the gains are much lower (said to be ~1% per level in Prima guide) afterwards.
- 270 packs is plenty to play Blitz at a high level. That’s a few more than I’ve opened and I’m high ranked in both playlists. Energy pickups >>> all else.

Well said.
Gud… Gud… I hope they’re raking in lots of REQ blitz packs or w/e! Means money for employees to put more time and effort into the rest of the game hopefully! And shows HW2 was successful and maybe just maybe we will see HW3 that is fully done at start /hope

I would be curious to know sales data for blitz packs. If these help potentially get us a new halo wars in 2-4 years then I say have at people being whales.
I would personally buy blitz packs if I had more time to play and/or cared about ranked.

Yeah. That’s one of the major reasons I don’t play that unfair mode.
Devs know it is blatant pay to win with no level cap but that’s how they want to make money…

I would expect it’s less the developers wanting to include a pay-to-win model, but more so a Microsoft stipulation with the project that it must include a method of secondary money generation.
You can often read interviews with studios, and it turns out it’s the publisher that is pushing for features that in their eyes will generate more revenue, and not the developer.
My issue is pay to win in ranked. It’s pretty messed up that you can literally buy your CSR Rank. Paying in unranked is fine, but ranked? C’mon man!

Well what ever. It still exists and is bad that they forced it.
But honestly though nobody can defend that an endless level system is not blatantly pay to even enter… I tried to play with my three star units and some 8 stars steamrolled me… And I’m sure they only payed like 50$…
I’m apathetic because it’s not the experience that I look for in an RTS and isn’t even a mode that I want to play.
The meat and potatoes of HW2 isn’t affected by Blitz cards and their pay-to-win aspect, so I don’t really care.
How high can these card levels go? I thought at first it was 5, cuz that’s the highest veterancy level in the first game, but then I’m seeing 6,8 and now 11? I swear if it’s limitless…
I thought this was going to be a rant about Kinsano being OP. Disappointing.

Card levels are infinite

Had a similar exp. My opponent who was only 2 levels higher than me had level 9/10. ( my highest card level 4) locust/bloodfuel locust on the ridge. I had to send my entire army to the ridge where his locust totally destroyed all my units all while he was capping all 3 zones. That’s been my worst exp of this pay2win system.

If the Publisher is only pushing for a secondary revenue source in the game, and that’s the only requirement they have, then it’s still the developer implementing the feature who are sort of at fault.
I mean, what would have prevented them from implementing alternative skins and models for all the different units in the game that could be bought?
Different announcers, UI skins and so forth.
Unless of course Microsoft specifically said a Pay-to-Win microtransaction system, in which case I’m kind of glad they made Blitz the way they did it.
Blitz is its own self contained limited game mode not affecting the whole game in any way.
Put that crap into the regular game modes and you’d have a storm beyond -Yoink-.

Yeah, that’s pretty much how I see it.
Wait people play blitz?
I only kind of did it casually while waiting for the game to come out, while reporting visual glitches n such.

To be fair the levels after 6 are pretty insignificant, and can be easily outplayed by a good energy game. It’s more pay to lose less while leveling, then pay to win. Still, till you do earn enough packs to get level 6, players who do invest to get their faster have an advantage.
