Patrol Case (Armor Mod) Error

Hi 343 & others,

Fortunately, since I have attained all current common – rare items through REQ packs (not including many emblems that are acquired otherwise), it did not take long to open upon some Gold Packs and receive the Patrol Case Armor Mod in the first few days of the Firefight update. Among other permanent REQs, I now have the Halo 2 BR & Recon DMR with Long Barrel as well :D.

Anyway, as the description details, “You carry additional ready and reserve ammo for all loadout weapons. Requisition weapons have increased ammo reserves if you equip the same weapon twice.” To my excitement, this Mod will attribute the same effect as the Extended Mag weapons (which they describe too), benefitting the player with the ability to utilize this effect with any weapon in the loadout inventory, not just the particular stock ones, but such as the Halo 2 BR, bladed weapons, Sentinels, the other special weapons, and maybe the Extended Mag weapons as well (if they did not already have enough).

However, to my disappointment, this has not been the experience that I would have enjoyed, for only extra reserved ammo has been granted in its use, but not ready ammo. Extra reserved ammo could be especially useful for REQ weapons, but not as quite useful for loadout weapons as extra ready ammo would be. To an extent, this defect would make the Armor Mod pretty useless, since most players would not survive so long to expend all the magazines before needing to run to the nearest REQ station to refill. Though with all the REQs to use it would not happen on most cases unless you are a camper, but still the convenience of having extra ready ammo while using your favorite weapon is advantageous, especially in dire situations…

In conclusion, the absence of extra ready ammo contradicts the description of the Armor Mod, so I believe this was not intended to be but an error, and I hope it will be fixed soon.

I haven’t tried carrying 2 of the same weapon to get the “extra ammo” the mod is referring to. But I see your point regarding the “extra ready ammo” and not only “reserved ammo”. In all honesty I don’t really care about the extra ready ammo as more ammo is already sufficient, but as you pointed out that might only be an error on their end.

The two weapon thing is calling in the same req twice. I.e. You spawn a sniper you get regular ammo for it. You use it. Without dropping it You spawn the same sniper you should get extra ammo for it. Mind you I haven’t tried it yet

Well it is certainly an improvement over the Extended Mag weapons, which were limited to the stock versions. Ready ammo would be especially useful for Sentinel BRs & DMRs, to counteract the task of eliminating an opponent before expending the magazine, because the higher perceived recoil can make placing consecutive shots a bit difficult,

Hey I just tried it with the spunkner em and no effect. Still 8 rockets. I wish the armor mod actually effected ready ammo.

Did you spawn the spnkr, use it, then refill it? I think that is what you have to do to get the extra ammo.

Using a REQ and refilling it has always been around. I imagine you would equip two snipers at once and perhaps carry 40 backup.

I have had this same occurrence many times. Chose Patrol Case… Chose Power Weapon…Used up power weapon… Refilled… Used up power again… Refilled… In all instances, I too did not receive additional ammo for the Power Weapon as indicated on the Armor Mod card… “Requisition weapons have increased ammo reserves if you equip the same weapon twice.”

Dear 343, Have you made a change in Mod function?? If not, please fix. Thanks.

I haven’t tried this yet, but it may be. Equip patrol case, Equip power weapon, Equip power weapon. Double the ammo.
