So I tried to get on and play with my son on Xbox today. It said it has a 50gb update. Well I have hit my data cap and we only had an hour to play. So I disconnected my internet hoping to just keep playing the old version like we did yesterday. Once I restarted my Xbox the game committed suicide and deleted itself… wtf? Now I have to reinstall the entire game and waste even more data. First off why is an update almost 60gb? Second who designed this stupid crap? I have never had a game delete itself in my 20 years of gaming just because I wouldn’t patch It.
Yeah, my game deleted itself too.
Yeh sounds frustrating…though kind of weird that data caps still a thing. Heck I’d take lower speeds if it meant unlimited downloads.

Yeh that sucks to hear. Sooner caps become a thing of the past the better.

It happens in both consoles (PS4 and Xbox) under specific circumstances, because the way the installation and update works, you can also make Steam and MS Store do that, is a well known issue, just like games clonning themselves and appearing as two installations, or duplicating everything but just being one game, this also happens with Windows updates and that’s why you should never stop a download and then reset, or spam the stop button, or just mess around with updates not just with Xbox but with every device.
And why 60GB https://support.halowaypoint.com/hc/en-us/articles/360040630351-Halo-The-Master-Chief-Collection-Patch-Notes-3-6-2020 Because they added this, an update is not just adding, you need to include code to remove everything as safely as posible, and this a pretty big change, so includes that.
