We all have been left with this question “where is the plasma rifle?”. One of the iconic covenant weapons used. Why does it not be more involving within game. It has been cast aside, and has become one or even the worse weapon to use. I (coming from experience) have been struggling to get just one kill with this gun. It is one of the iconic original guns of the franchise, yet cannot compete with in most 1v1 confrontations.
Obviously I do not expect it to compete with a Rocket or shotgun. But I at least expect it to compete against an SMG or Assault Rifle. That being a power weapon and all. Anyone else agree or disagree?

I agree, the thing overheats wayyyyyy too fast. Either reduce the TTK or increase the time we have before it has to cool down.

But they want you to use the magnum more than anything, but if you’re around a corner thrust towards them, shoot and then beat down

It’s a good play in theory, but most players I find counter with this:
Melee - Jump and thrust back - Headshot with MagnumI tell you, if the Plasma Rifle doesn’t get a much-needed buff, I’d feel safer with a Plasma Pistol.

I get what you are saying, but I still feel like if you cannot finish a person off with a gun without the problem of overheating. Clearly this is still an on-going issue. I should not need to hide around corners or thrust to finish a guy off. Never needed to with most weapons and I feel like this will make it harder on yourself doing that. The magnum is used enough. If they cared so much about using the weapon, why provide so many variants of weapons. Especially low Req ones.

Exactly. I was thinking the same thing. The pistol seems more effective :’)
Needs a buff!? If anything, it needs more of a nerf with its time to kill. If you want to use it effectively, learn how to avoid the overheat feature and then you’ll be killing people with ease.

How can you avoid the overheat, I’m Interested? I dunno if you tried going up against people with it recently. It being a ‘power weapon’, It should have a better time to kill than most standard loadout weapons. I can confirm it does not. Lets look at the competitor weapons. You are saying the AR, Magnum, SMG, Storm and Suppressors (excluding the obvious REQS). You are saying these do not have better ttk? I respect your opinion but the ttk is terrible and this could co-inside the over heat issue. However, it still is at a disadvantage. No matter what play style you do. It is still a handicap more than anything.

Stop shooting it when it’s about to overheat, wait for a brief moment and then shoot it again. The time to kill is so fast that you don’t need to wait until the overheat meter is completely empty.

In my experience, that really only works if the opponent has some flaky aim. If the enemy is laying down consistent and sustained fire, it’s not really all that viable a tactic.

Ahh I get you. But that defeats you speaking about the ttk? That is probably worse solution and I can confirm 9 time out of 10. You either get your kills taking from you or they have a better weapon. You will die no matter what. Waiting on the charge rate to drop or control your fire. Not speaking about 1v2. You are dead no matter.

Maybe if you’re using it at midrange or longer which is risky to begin with, but in close quarters it doesn’t matter if your opponent has good aim or not.

I’m literally talking like a half a second wait time before shooting again. I don’t know what to tell you if it doesn’t work for you except to keep practicing, but it works for me just about every time.

Yeah, but you need to be really close for a Plasma Rifle to be even remotely consistent. With just how much Magnum spam there is now, that really doesn’t make the Plasma Rifle all that viable. Why even pick it up if it’s so ridiculously situational? Most situational weapons like the shotgun or the sniper have that insane damage, but the Plasma Rifle is situational without the insane damage advantage that makes other weapons so useful.

I know not everyone is the same, but I can use it effectively on most people up to ten feet away eyeballing the distance and a little longer if they aren’t good.
You could say the same thing about an AR or an SMG with being situational as a secondary weapon. The only time you would use them with the exception of the AR on occasion is in close quarters so why use them when you could use a plasma rifle instead which has a faster kill time than both of them when you avoid the overheat feature. I’d have recheck the time with the AR’s headshot bonus, but you also don’t get any of the spread either. I’ll also add that it can depend on the map and how you play as well whether it would be a better pickup weapon so depending on how good you are with a SR it might be better to stick with the AR.

Ooohh in warzone?! I was thinking about in MM. My bad!!! Never mind what I said!
It’s currently just a crappier version of the Storm Rifle. The TTK is significantly worse and the range isn’t better to balance it. No point in it even existing in the sandbox. Great example of weapon tuning done right so each weapon has a unique role, right?!

Yeah, but here’s the thing. The Plasma Rifle is a projectile weapon with very slow bullet travel time. A kill is almost impossible with it outside of ultra-close range. The AR, because of the feasibility of tap firing on it and the fast bullets, I’ve managed to get cross-map kills with (albeit with a longshot sight, but still). Even then, I can fire the AR at double the distances I wouldn’t dare fire the Plasma Rifle at. With all that, there’s not really much reason to pick up a Plasma Rifle.
I’d say it’s alright. I mean it was alright before its first nerf but I can still use it just fine. Just need to get the jump on your opponent and no miss or stop shooting and thrust to let it cool for a moment
