Party chat in MM can go die in a hole.

title says it all.

how many times have you gone into matchmaking, and been the only person on your team in game chat? And how often has the rest of your team been in party chat, but they all joined solo? While the other team joined as a team, all of them, and they’re all in party chat.

So you loose by a mile, but that’s not the worst of it, every time you saw your team die, you wish to god they had heard you say “they have the sword in there” or “don’t get in the banshee they have the laser” but because they are in separate party chats none of them can hear you, they’re too busy talking to their friends to focus on what they’re doing.

And its the same in battlefield, and most other on-line games I have played you can’t work with your team because they can’t hear you. but in CoD they have set it so you can’t enter some play-lists in MM while in party chat. I can work with my team, even if I don’t know them, because they can hear me, and I can hear them so regardless of me or them joining with friends or not we can have some teamwork and actually have a chance of winning.

TL;DR :- party chat in matchmaking is bad for teamwork and causes unbalanced games.

I know people are going to flame simply because I mention CoD, but they had a good idea and it worked, unlike most of the features in those games.

Solution: Play with friends.

Party Chat removal in MW2 resulted in me never putting my Mic in to talk with random people I don’t know, I shouldn’t be forced to do it, regardless of team work or not.

I don’t see anything wrong with wanting to talk to your friends only. I prefer that over some annoying little kid. and besides even when people are in game chat they don’t talk. so its not like it would make a difference

I would be very, very disappointed if they take party chat out of MM.

I agree and disagree. I like being able to chat with friends who aren’t playing the same game as me, and what COD did always pissed me off because I’d be in the middle of a conversation and then “pop!” out of the party and into the game chat.

What I would like to see for Halo 4 is, assuming we return to a separation of ranked and social playlist, is allow party chat in social, but deny it in ranked.

  1. Majority of the time, it’s been a bunch of loudmouth, immature children. If i was forced into that, I’d probably quit.

  2. Luck of the draw. Sometimes I don’t tell my buddies someone’s in there with X weapon just for the laughs.

  3. You can’t guarantee that EVERYONE you join is cooperative b/c it’s been quite the opposite for me. Your three choices are:

Play with friends
Stay off the mic
Deal with it.

Personally, if it was removed I wouldn’t mind

No thank you. The only way I talk to people on Live is Party chat (Halo Wars is the only game where I even attempt game chat). I used to try to use game chat in 3 and Reach, but I just got sick of the constant arguing, yelling, and little kids swearing because they think it makes them sound cool.

If they take out Party Chat, that I’ll either not be using a mic, or be making sure I have some friends in the game with me to talk to.

I love party chat. Rather talk to my friends then random strangers.

Party chat was one of the best things MS did for LIVE.

Remove party chat from matchmaking and you just remove players from the game or just that area it exists in, rather than fix the problem. If I am in a party it’s because I want to talk to the people in it. Being forced to go into game chat means if those people aren’t in the same game on the same team as me, I won’t be able to talk to them, which is plain annoying. Even in SnD in CoD, I will only play it if my friends are with me in the same game on the same team, otherwise, I won’t bother. While I agree in game chat works very well for teamwork and I enjoy actually communicating with my team, half the time the people that actually do have mics in game I’d rather not want to talk to anyways because they aren’t providing anything constructive for the team or I can’t understand them. If it’s so rare to even find someone in a game who is actually good to talk to for teamwork, is it any wonder why I’d rather be in a party chat than game chat? Forcing me into it is just going to make me not want to play that game more than it is going to make me want to actually talk to my team in game, especially since I’ve never been one to really talk to randoms that much. So even if I do stay on that game, I’m not going to be talking with my team anyways half the time unless I know them.

why does this forum not post what i type? so i have to come back here and type it all again?

so yea.

sometimes, people friends are offline, other times they are on other games, we cant all have a full team of friends to rely on all the time, but if you do, that’s good for you.

as for not telling people the not do something yea, sometimes i don’t know, other times i just forget, but if you want chose to get your team killed that’s your choice. so forgive me for not realising the point of a competitive game isn’t to win it…

in halo 2, there were idiots, there were children, and there were mutes who wouldn’t/ couldn’t talk, but when you were forced to talk to your team or no one, the good players talked to their team, and having half a team working together is always better than having none of a team working together.

so yea, the implementation of party chat on XBL was good, i could talk to friends on any game, and more than just one like we were limited to with private chat. but when the game play is negatively impacted by a feature then the feature, needs to change, or go.

halo 2 had some of the best game play not because of any in game mechanic or ‘gimmicky’ feature, but because people worked as a team, I almost never had an easy game, or a game that was lost before 1 minute had passed, almost every game was a close win, or a close loss and that made winning rewarding you knew you earn’t it, and loosing wasn’t so bad, you got outplayed these days you get spawned with game changing AAs, and some game types give you power weapons at spawn, the default weapon (DMR) can kill vehicles and out gun other weapons more suited to a given situation, the AR at close range for example, in halo 2 the SMG would out gun the BR at close range unless the player with the BR was very good, or the SMG player made a mistake, same was true for H3.

bad weapon mechanics aside, the number of times actual team work would win games out weighs the times it wouldn’t a hundred times over. when you have an actual counter argument, please come back.

as for social/ranked that all depends on if there’s a distinction between the two in H4, like in H3 or if they are the same like in reach. if there is a social/ranked separation then sure give social party chat, but in ranked, or MM in general if ranked and social are the same party chat should be out.

So, you are saying that we need to talk only because you aren’t playing the game with friends?

They best thing to do is if they have ranked and social playlists we can have party chat in the social and forced game chat in ranked.

> Solution: Play with friends.

Ranked playlists - No party chat.

Social playlists - Does it really matter? No.

Thinking about it, the addition of party chat came to xbox live around the same time halo 3 became less fun. My Friends IRL think I’m strange because I talk to people on xbox I don’t know IRL because they all got there xbox after party chat so they never speak to anyone outside there friends. Its sad that people only use party chat however I doubt they will take it away. I do hope however that they remove the pressing button to speak thing

play with friends. if they do what they did in mw2 ill just mute everyone i dont know in the lobby like mw2

True. If you always search without a full team it would benefit to have it disabled so you can make new Xbox Live friends when playing.

Do you know why Halo 2 was so competitive? Do you know why many games were very close and you never had an “easy game”? It’s because Halo 2 had incentive to win. Halo 2 you were forced to win games to rank up. This is one of the reasons why many players have left Reach as a whole, because if you aren’t playing Arena, you don’t even need to win to rank up. Players know this and all they care about is credits. Halo 4 HAS to have incentive to win if it’s going to be a successful game. If there is no reason to win, why even try to work as a team?

That is the question we need to address when talking about working as a team in game chat. I personally always search in full teams in matchmaking, there is always people online, but for those people who don’t always have that benefit, it would be better for them.
