Party chat in halo 4.

Ever since the introduction of party chat, I feel that all online multiplayer games have suffered from lack of social interaction. Before party chat, it wasn’t hard to go into a game lobby and have a decent time with people from all around the world, an aspect that was integral to the Xbox Live of old. Using Halo 2 as a personal example, I met lots of cool people who I consider good friends to this day. Back then I had a full friend’s list of active Halo 2 gamers. Whether it was clan matches or infection or just goofing around with glitches, it was always a blast. Fast forward today, you go into a match, and everyone is in party chat. Where’s the social aspect that Xbox Live and games like Halo have been preached for? I’ve seen the last thread regarding party chat here and know the arguments from the advocates and those from the opposers. Hopefully this thread promotes an active discussion, without flaming and bashing. I might be living in nostalgia, but I think Halo and Xbox Live in general was perfect before party chat was introduced. You could go into a match, chat it up with those who shared the same passion for Halo and gaming in general, and possibly make a friend along the way. Go into matchmaking on Reach now and see if you get a lobby that isn’t full of party chat icons. I feel it’s harder to find people to chat with on Halo and Xbox Live now than it was before party chat was introduced and it diminishes what made Halo and Xbox Live a roaring success in the first place. I want to hear the arguments and hopefully 343i will look at this thread and do something that pleases all for Halo 4.

I ask the community to share their opinions on this topic and see if there is a way we can appease all the fans.

*Please keep the thread clean.

Suggestions to ‘Make it work’

¥Have playlists that allow party chat and playlists that do not.
¥Have a no party chat filter.
¥Elimimate party chat altogether.

Party chat is a part of xboxlive It can not be taken out on one game . It is a live componet not a game componet .

Reach had some search preferences to look for a “chatty” lobby, though it seems to have failed. Not sure if it’ll be improved for h4.

Call of duty has restricted party chat in certain playlists. Maybe the same could be done in Halo 4. Maybe not eliminating party chat altogether from Halo 4, and just in certain playlists to appease everyone altogether would be the best option to keep the multiplayer base happy as a whole.

Maybe there could be a search option so it won’t match you with people in Party Chat? Don’t know if that’s possible, but it’d be pretty cool, I think. I don’t believe in just saying “No Party Chat allowed”, but at the same time, I miss going into a BTB game and having a laugh with people you’ve never met before, and I’d probably permanently have the “No Party Chat” option on, were it in the game.

I disagree… Let people use Party Chat. Its annoying to hear some ignorant american people who calling me a -Yoink!- or something -Yoink- like this. And dont tell me i should mute them… why? I should simply use Party Chat. There i can chat with my friends.

With a community as large as Halo’s, there’s bound to be people who don’t know how to conduct themselves, but that shouldn’t detract from the social experience for gamers who behave well on Xbox Live. I’m pretty sure the good gamers outweigh the bad ones.

If anything. Have playlists where party chat is permitted like call of duty, but I definitely think there should be playlists where it’s restricted to cultivate more social activity.

And none of your friends were once strangers you met on Xbox Live?

nope. I only add nice people. Not some ignorant americans who think that all german people are nazis or that -Yoink!- is still alive. Im tired of off this as sholes.
Dont put in some stupid restrictions because u want to hear trash or some screaming kids. Even if Party chat is not allowed, people would not put in they mics.

I really want party chat. I can’t stand listening to the rest of the Xbox live community because of how racist, vulgar, and insulting they are.

I actually rarely notice these people anymore in Halo. In fact, they were never a problem for me personally, but I guess this is why the mute button exists.

I really believe my idea of a “Don’t Match with Party Chatters” option could work, though.

Wouldn’t muting and reporting the offending player be enough? Accessing the in-game mute button is quicker than bringing up the Xbox Guide.

Fighting a flood of water with an umbrella.

I’d rather bring up party chat once, then constantly have to groan and mute people over and over again. Not productive to the problem, I know but after 5 years on XBL that is what I’ve resorted to.

this this this

I’m glad this post has been reborn.

Although I admire Snickerdoodle’s tact, I don’t agree with her closing down the previous thread.

On topic, I think Party chat should be limited, very limited.

mute mute mute!

Face it, your never gonna get away from it completely. Either learn to filter it out and not let it affect you, or just mute people. But don’t let that keep you from interacting people.

Party Chat at times can be just as bad as becoming a hermit.

No it shouldnt. And btw u guys want another stupid CoD decision in Halo? nice…

I’d rather be a hermit than constantly be assault with vulgar language. The silence is golden as they say.
