Party Chat Courtesy

I get it, it’s annoying to not be able to talk to your friends in the pre-game lobby. It’s fine to party up and talk with people that have mics, but when you start the game please just check to see if other players in the game have mics. It’s a LOT easier if the whole team is talking to each other and not just 3 with 1 running around on his own. It sucks to be that 1 player in the game who is on his own, and it’s more annoying to be part of the 3 who have a GREAT strategy and that 1 guy just runs head first into battle and costs you the game.

It’s VERY easy to swap between Party and Game chat, just hold the Back button to view who’s playing and then press B. You can very quickly swap in during the intro process and ask if they have a mic. If they don’t, feel free to either stay in party or go to game chat. If they do, then please go tell your friends in the party and all switch over. Then, when it says “Game Over” do the same thing and go back to a private chat.

It sucks that, for whatever reason, the Halo community has decided to give up on having their mics plugged in. Those of you that still use one, please don’t give up on team play. Yes, this is “just a game” and a large portion of us don’t take it very seriously, but constantly losing games because 1 or more players can’t hear you isn’t fun. It makes me want to stop playing after just a couple games when I check and see everyone on my team in Party chat. I like communicating with my team, even if it’s just to tell goofy stories or make funny noises. I miss being able to play as an actual team instead of just being 4 people with the same color armor.

Hopefully this topic spreads to those who didn’t know about this =)

agreed

Just had a conversation today with someone who did this. They said that because it was a social playlist it “didn’t matter” and that “I wasn’t their friend.” This is what annoys me. Just because it’s a social playlist with no rank, DOESN’T mean I don’t want to work an function as an actual team.

It’s sad that we now have players that would rather talk to one person in party chat that is playing the game with them than the entire team they are playing with =/ It really is no fun to play a game and feel like you’re isolated from everyone on your team. Also, please don’t complain about who dies the most when you didn’t help them, that’s not even a valid argument.

I don’t care what you and your buddies talk about mid-game, I’m just asking for a “careful around the corner.” or “On my X.” If you don’t know call-outs very well, that’s fine too. A good old-fashioned “on my X!” is always appreciated ^.^

Can we please start working together again? I miss those days in Halo: Reach and sometimes in Halo 4 =/

see if you’re like me, you dont just play halo, you have general conversations about things while you play. Conversations that you dont want random people involved in. Youre forgetting the social side of ll this. what if i just want to talk to 1 or 2 of my friends and only them? Not every person goes into a halo match to make callouts and play sweaty

Never liked talking to anyone and probably will not in the future. Thus I stick to social type playlists. That’s what social is for, I can do what I want and everyone else can pack sand. Do I play to win, sure. Do I like winning, sure. Do I care in the end, not really.

Aaaaaaaand that’s why I’ll stay in party chat, thanks.
I don’t play halo to hear kids’ life stories about irrelevant nonsense nor listen to immature attempts at humour. I don’t want to hear you mouth-breathe, don’t want to hear your music, and don’t want to hear you arguing with your mom/sister/brother/whomever.
Sometimes I don’t feel like having a headset on, and I don’t need my daughter hearing the disgusting topics that make up the majority of in-game chat.
So no thanks.

  1. Don’t assume that everyone you play with is a child or mouth-breather XD
  2. We do have this thing called a “mute button” that you can use on people you don’t want to listen to =P
  3. The random noises I make are usually a result of me being blown up or murdered in game…not just for the sake of making a noise.
  4. Very rarely will I be in a game that has a topic come up about something inappropriate. Yes, when those times hit it can get pretty bad, but I usually mute those players because I don’t want to hear it either, and I don’t even have a kid like you do. Have I made bad comments? Sure. Just last night I made a “your mom” joke, but then twisted it from being sexual to about her non-stop talking about how great her cooking was(I mean come on, we’ve all bragged about our own cooking haha). I’ve even had some pretty good debates about politics and other stuff going on around the world, we’ve even talked about how American media won’t cover it if it’s not in the States. All of this with random people I JUST met.

I’d say give random chat another shot, it’s cleaned up quite a bit since you gave up on it. Also, don’t let your child sit so close to your headset that they can hear what everyone is saying. During the Halo 2 years things were VERY toxic, I won’t pretend they weren’t, but it’s improved. Although, Halo 5 being rated T does make things a bit more challenging.

What about people who are in parties with friends who aren’t playing Halo? Why should they leave their friends to talk to a bunch of randoms who they probably won’t even get along with?

I agree with OP

I become like a god when people call out its like im more into the game and aware of everything that is going on. When people don’t talk sometimes i feel lost and i miss shots i would normally hit i think its because i get annoyed no one talks in team games especially in halo which is heavy on team play.
When people call out i clean up one shots that normally you would miss if people had no mics and they clean up one shots for me. Its like you move as one unit and the game because more enjoyable.

Personally, I don’t have conversations I don’t want people to hear when I’m playing Halo. I also don’t care whether someone hears what I say to a friend or not, but that’s just me. I’ve had moments in the past where friends would invite me to a party mid-game to talk about something private because things got too personal for them, but then we leave after it’s all resolved. I do know that not EVERYONE feels this way, or acts like this. Just miss the days where people would actually talk. I bet that if pre-game lobby chat was around this wouldn’t be as big of a problem.

And yes, I know that some people play and talk to friends that are playing other games but that’s not the kind of scenario.

Please see above post. Those people I exclude from this topic. It’s the people that are all in the same game but stay in Party Chat anyways that bug me. And if you’don’t want to talk to people you might not get along with, then you should probably not go outside haha =P

Yeah, that’s about how I feel haha
