I think it would be really neat if we had a FFA Parkour style mini game in the next Halo. Here’s how I see it working:
The game is split into multiple rounds. In each round a player spawns in a predetermined spot and has to get to another location (marked by a hill) as fast as possible. Points are awarded based on time, and whoever completes the course in the least amount of time wins.
This would provide an incentive for players to practice jumping around maps, and it would give forgers another way to use their creativity. It would also fit into the lore of War Games as parkour originated from military training. Thoughts?
I think this could be very especially if people were given concussion rifles.
I would take this thread to Community Creations and try to connect with someone about building maps for it. I believe with the Halo 4 game options you can something like this so ask about that as well. Then once it is created I would try to get it played on a community game night and see if it could make it into Halo 4 action sack. Overall you will get a much better response in the Community Creations section of the forums.
I think we’ve actually seen some maps similar to this in Halo 4 already. I’d find a link if I had one, but it was created by petetheduck and you should be able to find the video of it on this channel somewhere.
Personally, I’d be all for a gametype like this. I’m not sure how the general community would enjoy it, but as I both love jumps and custom maps this sort of thing would be right up my alley. I’d say use concussion rifles as map specific spawn weapons, as without them you could focus more on sprint and spring jumps (spring jumps not being necessary if the CC rifle is there) among other items.
As a gametype I could see it fitting into FFA, Action Sack and Multi-Team assuming it’s done correctly.
Thanks for the replies guys. The more I think about it this is pretty much just Race but on foot. It is more or less already possible in Halo 4, except for one part that I forgot to mention:
In each round, each player goes one at a time while the others are in a sort of spectator mode. In the first round the order could either be randomized or have the highest ranked player going first. In subsequent rounds the player with the overall lowest time will go first, and the slowest player going last.
We can do that already with KoTH (king of the hill) first make the parkour map with a hill at the end, then make the gametype.
get KoTH add in rounds, then make the winning point for each round one second. so when the first person to reach the hill (at the end of the parkour map) wins!
This idea has been around for a long time. The Flaming Ninja Challenge that has been around since Halo 3 is probably the best known example of the trick jumping maps. Here’s the first Flaming Ninja Challenge from Halo Reach. It’s a bit of a puzzle and trades speed for difficulty, but there’s no reason why such a map couldn’t be made more about speed. Execution of this idea doesn’t really require antyhing we don’t already have.
Here we go with all the “I think features from another currently popular game should be in Halo” threads. Back in the Bungie days when CoD was first becoming popular it was all nonstop “Should sprint/loadouts/perks be in the next Halo?”. Now that Titanfall is making waves it’s nonstop “Should the next Halo have parkour?”.

This thread actually has nothing to do with Titanfall. I have seen its gameplay but I have never played it.
My basic idea is for a mini-game where players spawn at point A and have to reach point B as fast as possible. There would be many ways to do this: A) simple movement :walking, sprinting and jumping (anyone can do this, even day 1 players) B) More advanced movement (crouch jumping, grenade jumping, spring jumping, etc.) C) Vehicles, AA’s and Weapons: these would be available as map pick ups and would require some sort of advanced movement to access.
Obviously there would be a reward for using some of the more advanced movement options, such as a vehicle or a quicker (but more difficult) route to the finish.
I have been playing Halo for roughly 12 years and I just recently learned how to spring jump. My idea was to create a gametype and maps to go with it that would encourage people to learn different movement techniques that they may otherwise forgo. I am not asking for ledge grabbing, wall running or anything of the like, just a gametype based on classic Halo movement.

So your idea uses the current mechanics already in Halo?
> So your idea uses the current mechanics already in Halo?
Precisely. I want players new and old to be made more aware of Halo’s movement mechanics and I think this would be an enjoyable way to do that.
A very simple example could be a course on Adrift. Players spawn below the stairs by the Needler and have to get to one of the flag capture plates. Sure you could just sprint there but it would be more time consuming than using some crouch and spring jumps to get to top mid and then sprint through the tube to get to the flag. Of course the map would have to be edited a bit to create a longer path but the idea remains the same.

Well then I incorrectly assumed you were talking about instituting parkour mechanics in the next Halo game and I apologize. It’s just that I’ve seen like 6 threads in the last hour saying that Halo 5 should add parkour stuff just like Titanfall. Your idea does sound fun.
