Parents Limiting Time

Hey everyone, lately because it’s the summer, I’ve been playing a lot of video games. (Mainly Halo) And I’ve gotten into an issue with my parents, they want to limit my time per session. And I tell them, “The games that I play, take a while to get things done.” But yet they still limit me to only 2 hours at a time. I’m 16 years old, I don’t know why they don’t see that I can handle myself. Any suggestions?

Get a job. Show initiative and responsibility then maybe a week or so in ask them if you can have a longer gaming time.

Or move out.

Either works

He is 16 years old and he can’t legally move out and have a house.

I am old enough to have a 16 year old and I wouldn’t limit his time if #1 he was getting good grades in school and was doing other stuff out side of school be it extra curricular activities or a job and kept up with stuff around the house, general chore type stuff… show some good responsibility and maybe negotiate more video game time.

Speak to them about it. Ask them why you are being limited? Ask them what you could do to increase the time. Basically make a deal, but make sure you can hold up your end of the bargain. Nothing worse than someone who does not keep their word.

Im unaware of any country allowing a 16 yr old to legally move out and get a job o.0 usually arent thet still studying while 16

well if they don’t limit you, what do you do outside of halo? to be honest if ALL your doing is playing game then i side with your parents, gtf outside! if your only playing maybe 3 or 4 hours, and then doing other stuff, ehhh try seeing if you can do more chores around the house for more game time.

Im not going to lie dude, I have to agree with your parents though. they are games. coming here really isn’t really going to change that. sure, maybe try earning more game time by doing more chores or such might help, as i did that when i was your age. if i did chores each day i was allowed 4 hours if i wanted to vs just 2.

Yeah, I actually just tried negotiating. It worked! I told them that I will give it my all when it comes to Chamber Choir this year. And that seemed to have them convinced. Yes, I know, Choir. But Chamber Choir is for the singers who want more out of it. We go and rehearse at 7:00 am every morning. Just to clarify that I’m not some lame choir kid.

So deal with it… that the best I can give, my parents gave me an hour and a half until they saw my report card. Now I get 2 hours.

There’s always that one person.

Lol. I know I’m being that guy , but I do know how you feel. I’ve had a stupid timer for 5 years and it pisses me off. It’s also one of the main reasons most of my maps aren’t finished. Because I don’t have the time I need to finish them.

Get yourself some power tools and scrap lumber and you’ll never miss Halo again.

I don’t get it, god forbid you play video games for 4 or 5 hours a day, but it’s cool if you watch tv/movies/be on the Internet for 6+ and no one blinks an eye. Parents.

Games are also generally more of an interactive medium than videos. So… Pretty sure games help more in many cases too.

My parents were strict about playing when I was younger, I played whenever they left to go do something, or late at night. Now they are more concerned about how much I drink. Haha

I don’t see the problem. 2 hour sessions is fine. Get up, go for a walk, enjoy the summer, play some more later.

Moderation in all things. More people on these forums could benefit from limiting themselves to playing no more than 2 hours at a time and then breaking it up with other activities.

Go outside a lot, like say if you go out for an our you get an extra hour to play xbox?

Great! Just don’t fudge up and let your grades/extracurriculars suffer, or you could end up with even less game time (or none at all).

Well I would wait till your parents are asleep
