Yeah, I was actually freaked out when this happened. A Covie crate comes out of nowhere and tries to claim my life. I have a video to prove it.
Here it is:
Strange moment in Campaign.
Tell me that wasn’t freaky? XD
I have another video, but from my point of view, oh yeah, you going to love this Skirmisher fail that appeared at the same time.
My PoV and the Skirmisher fail.
Tell me what you think about it?
That is pretty freaky, hope that doesn’t happen to me.
That crate has been know to make an attempt for your life. It seems Bungie placed a rock inside the crate. When the crate recieves a “bump” (aka, the item is moved) it attempts to abide the simple laws of physics and removes itself from the rock.
You know, I was fortunate to have avoided that splatter, talk about a close call.
That’s the Halo Physics engine for ya!
I’m not really surprised, I mean moveable objects noticeably bump when you just pass them.

I’m inclined to say “Damn you Physics and your movable objects!” XD

This.
Exact detail for anyone interested in the subject:
A game engine cannot usually detect when two objects hit each other at the exact moment that they collide. What happens in nearly every case is that two colliding objects actually move through each other for a very short period of time, and are forcibly separated (using an “imaginary” force commonly called “impulse”) when the physics engine detects them; they then collide as they would in the real world. The degree of intersection and the relevant movement of the two objects determines how impulse is applied.
In this case, the terrain can’t be moved, so all of the force was applied to the crate, launching it. The reason it was so sudden was because the game “deactivates” many objects’ physics when they’re left undisturbed for a time, as countless Forge mechanisms and traps have demonstrated. Approach an object in Reach or touch an object in Halo 3, and you reactivate its physics. Something approached the crate, resuming collision detection and leading to separation and a launch.
Its not paranormal activity, nor is it physics. But there is a word for things such as this. Glitch.
I love that Jackal fail. I had something like that happen with a plasma grenade in firefight. It seems they’re either extremely loyal to their comrades, or just plain suicidal.
i love that glitch, i trigger it on purpose each time i play that level
