So last year I was closely following the topic on waypoint ‘why does everyone hate Spartan IV’s’ or something like that anyway someone had brought up Palmers attempted assassination of Dr. Halsey; someone brought up the statement that she should have been something better than two M6H’s like a Battle Rifle or a Squad Automatic Weapon. was this person right? It’s my personal belief that the M6H was a perfectly fine choice given the fact it has a 2x KFA scope and uses Semi-Armour Piercing High Explosive rounds like its older M6D counter part does and some models could even be supressed despite using such a ridiculous round so what are your thoughts internet?
Sure, the pistols would have been fine had Palmer been a decent shot.
It’s a gun, Halsey is a shield-less, armor-less, scientist. She could have brought a colonial era pistol and killed her had she decent aim.
Halsey was indoors so any advantage larger weapons than the magnum might have are negated.
I guess an explosive weapon may have made it easier for her. A shotgun at that range would have likely left halsey in a pretty sorry state. But I don’t think people normally think of those weapons when going on an assassination op.
A shotgun also wouldn’t have been Palmer’s “signature.” Dual Magnums is her signature. Overall, -Yoink!- the assassination op. Serin Osman is a cow.
Old ladies die when hit with bullets from any gun last I checked. Don’t think it mattered what Palmer’s armament was.
You guys are forgetting that pistols are an effective weapon against Elites if their shields are removed. I’m pretty sure most elderly, unarmored civilians would be killed by as pistol blast. The only reason Pamer couldn’t kill her was because it was established that she felt somewhat guilty and uneasy about it in Halo: Escalation.
I think her hatred of Halsey is more about her insecurities than any justified reason, and on some level she knows it.

For all the horrors Halsey did in retrospect to the S-IIs, Osman still unexpectedly feels like a wench for ordering the hit, contrary to the usual reactions when this kind of situation happens.
Can anyone explain why this is the reaction invoked?

Because if you read the books you would know how she really felt towards her actions and the abductees. She did it for the greater good while knowing the immoral implications of her doings. She is being portrait as a selfish heartless -Yoink- eversince Glasslands, thus the huge hate Kilo-5 got.

I have read the books and I can relate to her motivations, especially after the Innies nuked that one planet.
Kilo-five is not the best interpretation of her, I can agree. I am just saying this in light of the recent HTT episodes, which really do a good job at explaining that despite the necessity and intentions, abducting children to carry out the mandate of a morally dubious government is still horrible and shocking.
Despite Halsey’s crimes, a lot has been done over the years to either mostly ignore them as well as portray her in a likeable light. She’s a grey character, not a black one.
Osman on the other hand, is a relatively new character, from a rather unpopular novel series. She acts rather strange and her and many other characters are hard to like and spend a good chunk of their time randomly hating on Halsey, even when it isn’t related at all to the topic at hand. And then, in her first appearance outside of that series, she calls a hit on Halsey.
Halsey has been rather…narratively bullied lately, so its not unexpected that people are ready to come to her defense, and to not like those doing the bullying.

Luckily for you she didn’t.
Guns akimbo… You’ll shoot lots of holes in everything EXCEPT your target, but you’ll look cool doing it! All but the most pedantic of viewers will forgive liberties with reality as long as the result is wicked sweet or awesome.
It doesnt take ridiculously well trained soldier who shoots bad guys for a living to tell you a side arm fired with a two handed grip is more deadly then going guns akimbo.
Had she wanted to kill her some forethought a simple grenade or burst from assault rifle would have ended it, but thank god shes a stupid cliche. #TeamHalsey

Opinions of the characters=/=opinions of the writers, nor do they equal the opinions they want you to believe. I’m legit shocked people think Spops was attempting to portray Halsey as evil. Osman was so obviously the villain of that scenario all she needed was a cat to stroke.
So yes naturally the villains will portray the hero/anti-hero in a negative light.

Normally i would agree with the guns the guns akimbo being stupid but i guess if you have the Spartan HUD that shows where your guns are pointed at you could make them work with practise.
And to answer with the OP, it doesn’t really matter what Palmer used or didn’t use. A super MAC round wouldn’t be able to penetrate Halseys plot shield. I really, really wish the writers wouldn’t make it so blatantly obvious that Halsey is effectively immortal in the EU with these setups and save her with heavy handed deus ex machina every time she is about to die. Like last time she appeared in Escalation. I mean, i’m all for character development for Palmer but that whole setup was just plain bad.
