Her Words after repling to Jun asking her why she is rude to the hospital doctors and not troops.
“Soldiers don’t act like they’re smarter than me just because it took them eight years longer to get out of school.”
I don’t know what is up with that, maybe she had some issues in High School or College but it is random to think she insults scientist because they are smarter. She feels that someone who spent more time in school shouldn’t be able to say they are smarter. Now, i’m sure most people don’t like a smart -Yoink- but if someone is clearly smarter than you because they worked hard to get to that level. They at least deserve respect.
If you ask me i respect the Scientist more than the troops. They could be -Yoinks!- but they know they are going into a warzone unarmed and if it calls for it they will solider up. Unlike the engineers of the Pillar of Autumn in Halo CE. They just freaked out and got gunned down. Either way I think this dislike of well College graduates is too insignificant to bring to a war.
Halo 5 shouldn’t have any kind of Palmer insulting the scientist just because they are smarter than her. If she really wanted to show them one right she would get an education better or equal to them, instead of insults.
Another Spoiler or a something to save you a little time.
Palmer gets promoted and becomes a Spartan because of saving an Admiral and a High Value AI. That would look good on a service record no doubt but all she did was.
Drop, injure a wounded Brute Chieftain, take cover from a squad of Covies, blast a warthog through the air while charging the severely Chieftain getting in the Warthog and running over the Chieftain, she was also shoot by a needler round before she got in the Warthog. I know surviving a needler round means you are a tough SOB but what ODST hasn’t done this.
Take Cover, return fire and get HVT’s to RV. No Targets are confirmed kills so I still don’t understand why she got the Spartan promotion. How many times in Halo 3 ODST does any of the squad take down a chieftain.
I’m sure if we look at the Halo history. Most of the marines, army and ODST would of all been able to complete the objective.
Taking on a Chieftain, especially one with backup, especially if you’re solo, is kinda a big deal if you aren’t a Spartan II. Gameplay isn’t canon, and the Rookie’s squad likely didn’t fight too many of them.
Also, needles typically leave very big holes. I can’t imagine many ODST’s surviving direct hits.

I totally agree. Somebody that hates people only because they have a university degree is too stupid to be called “spartan”
That’s too arbitrary. And it makes her seem like a stereotyping immature baby anyway. I can at least speak for my self that I didn’t want a literal explanation as to why she kept on calling scientists Eggheads. It was just bad writing and only in there to try and make her seem like the tough military leader, I’m sure they didn’t put that specific dialogue in Spops for character reasons.
I mean it’s great they’re trying to fix the bad writing from Spops and add more to Palmer, but it just didn’t work out here in my opinion.

okay two things here.
i don’t think the playful jabs at those she deems “eggheads” is so much a “i don’t like them for being smarter than me” issue, it’s probably more of a “i don’t like them assuming i’m stupid because i’m a soldier” thing, my guess is shes had some experience with the later. she probably teases them to knock them down a peg, and gain the social highground.
and 2)

a lot, canonically speaking the needler is extremely deadly, even if the shots don’t supercombine.

To be fair, it’s the same guy writing Initiation who wrote Spartan Ops.

True, maybe I’m expecting too much then. I mean it’s possible to make Palmer better, I just think they’re going about it the wrong way.
Can’t believe Reed actually wrote an explanation as to why Palmer calls the scientists “eggheads.” This explanation just makes Palmer seem even more immature, arrogant, dumb, and disrespectful IMO.
I would have liked it if they had just left the term “eggheads” as is, in Spartan Ops. I hate that they are expanding on the idea.
It’s kind of a big deal for one lone ODST to rescue two HVTs (I’m including the AI), while single-handedly taking out a Brute Chieftain with a Needler round in her.
Remember in ODST, the one time in a cutscene they fought a Chieftain, it took Buck, Dutch, and Mickey to take it out while Romeo was wounded. In gameplay, you can take a Chieftain out with a simple tap to the back, which I wouldn’t count as canon.
EDIT: Just noticed DeM said something similar. This is adding on to his post, then.
Anyway. All this said, let’s continue the discussion in the Halo: Initiation Discussion thread:
