Overwhelmingly Disappointed (Challenges, Customization, and Monetization)

First of all I just want to say that 343 did a wonderful job at creating amazing gameplay for Halo Infinite’s multiplayer mechanically speaking. I haven’t had fun with a Halo game in years, possible over a decade when Reach came out. I want to give criticism as constructive as I can be. I extremely detest so much of the hatred and negativity that people have been sending there way. However I can completely understand how so much people can be overly emotionally to resort to that behavior. Especially since today I was overwhelmed with extreme disappointment with so many decisions in this game. From the organization of playlists and challenges, to the implementation of this customization system and it’s monetization. It all has been designed so poorly that I feel already burnt out. I don’t want to play the game, and that sucks because the game is fun, but the challenges are forcing you out of the fun, and the limited customization completely takes away what made past Halo games fun.

Now let’s start with challenges and playlists since the problems with these sort of intertwine. Some of the challenges force you to play ways that can deviate from the objective which is not fun for anyone. Plus with game modes not having separate playlists, it’s hard to get certain game types you need for those challenges. Also doing the ultimate challenge is the only way you can get free armor customization, so for any free-to-play player, they will probably be compelled to try to finish the challenges, I know I was. But now I have no drive to do them because they are so convoluted to have fun and the “ultimate challenge” reward to too small to bother. Plus the fact that this system is design to encourage us pay for challenge swaps is disgusting, monetization should always be for armor customization, not giving us a chance to make challenges easier.
Please separate the game modes to separates playlists as past Halos have done, because people want to play the modes they like and not be forced into something they aren’t excited to play. And make challenges more simple, nothing that forces you to certain game modes, especially since those game modes that are random to get.

I know armor customization is just cosmetic and doesn’t affect the core gameplay of Infinite, but I feel that building your own spartan IS part of the game, and has been part of Halo’s multiplayer spirit. The limited customization from separating armor pieces, colors, and the like is a confusing mess, and is not only unfun, but somewhat painful. I was mostly fine with the idea of armor cores, but to have separate armor coatings for the cores is so limiting. Same with the armor kits in the battle pass where you can look like a character from Reach, but you can’t have some of the armor pieces, like the unique shoulder pieces on Carter, Emile, and Jorge. This hurts, as said before Halo customization is about building your own Spartan. If you want it to look like a character, sure that’s fine, but to be locked to that armor with no way of customization it, or having the pieces to customize it is so counter intuitive to the idea of customization. Armor kits need to be presets, not skins, and the missing armor pieces need to be added to the battle pass. It makes no sense why these armor pieces are missing even though they are in the armor kits, and for what some news said they are going to sell those armor pieces in the shop, which is utterly disgusting. Especially since EVERYTHING in the shop is extremely overpriced. Which is another point, it seems like WAY too much is being sold in the shop, and for ungodly amounts of money!

I’m just gonna actually end this here, I’m tired, and emotional and probably can’t make my points as coherent as I want, but overall there absolutely needs to be some changes. This system is upsetting a lot of people and will probably drive people away from the game, I know it’s driving me away, but I love Halo so much that I want to see this thrive. Fix these issues, and I guarantee people including myself will throw some money into it to get cool armor and such. I know I really wanted to buy the battle pass but stopped myself from spending anything when I heard about some of these egregious systems.

If anyone else reads these please share your thoughts, speak out and let 343 and Microsoft know about how bad this is. We need changes.

Thank you

I absolutely agree with all your points here.

It also hurts me to say that I won’t buy the game when it releases. Due to all the points you mentioned. Yes, I am having fun with the game and the map Fragmentation amazes me how sick everything looks.

Some suggestions to make a few longtime Halo fans happy.

-more individual customization options (armor and emblems)

-separate playlists (slayer, ctf, etc…)

-playlist related challenges

-separate progression system besides the battle pass

-keep the store but lower the prices

-possibilities to earn in game currency (for example finish the ultimate weekly challenge for 500 credits. It will keep people playing, trust me)
