Overwhelming Castle nostalgia

I was checking out the Castle Maps in custom games to see what they were like, and I looked down at my Spartan-IV’s feet, then around the map, and got overwhelming sense of Halo 2 nostalgia (not just on Perdition either) but I never felt this way on any other map.

Did anyone else get the strangest sense of overwhelming nostalgia about these maps? This is the second time I’ve felt true nostalgia in this game (excluding Ragnorok) and it was just something about how these maps are…

Is it just me?

No

No, I felt it, too.

Perdition reminds me of Turf and Terminal, Daybreak of Standoff, and Outcast a little bit of Waterworks.

It’s a very cool map pack, and definitely my favorite of the three. The maps all feel very Halo-y.

I haven’t even played on the maps yet but I already got that sense of familiarity when I saw the walkthroughs for them.

The only other Halo 4 maps that actually feel kind of like Halo maps for me are Meltdown, Ragnarok, Exile and Wreckage. None of the others feel at all like Halo for me.
So Castle map pack is a welcome change.

Skyline and monolith also awesome maps

Not really, honestly.

Perdition gave me a sense of “Halo map” though. I felt like it needed some more hallways and walkways however, and I’m just no certain on how well it’s actually going to play because it seems hugely unbalanced IMO.

Daybreak is really, really gloomy and while I personally think it will play well, it seems again that it’s going to be unbalanced as almost everything is in favour of the team with the man cannon, including the design of the opponents base.

Outcast looks interesting, but I can’t really make a comment about it.

The only map so far that seems to give me a kick in the nostalgia is when I play Haven on Throwdown settings, and even that doesn’t get me very well.

This DLC is awesome. Epic nostalgia.

Of course. Daybreak looks like it’s from Reach, Perdition like it’s from Halo 2/ODST and Outcast looks like it’s taken from Halo 3’s desert level. It’s intentional for sure.

Well, Ragnarok is a remake of Valhalla after all

Simplex gives me some Midship nostalgia and Dispatch gets my Wizard nostalgia going. Meltdown reminds me of Ice Fields. Landfall reminds me of the middle child in Longshore and Turf’s family.

I tried for that feeling. Really hard. But my first game today was CTF on one of the new maps (the one with the banshee) and, though we won, I spent the entire game raging because half of the other team camped their flag with boltshots.

Trying to cool down from that playlist, I decided to try out multiteam. I got KOTH on Ragnarok. The entire game I kept getting killed by people camo camping with the sniper just trying to pad their KD, and people who played the whole game with Promethean Vision on. I managed to keep my team in second for almost the whole game (despite my teammate having like 4 seconds of hill time at the end), when my teammate quit. Only person in the whole game to quit.

So the game ended with me getting sniped a few more times by some -Yoink- crouching on top of one of the bases with camo, apparently confused about what gametype he was playing, and I threw my controller on the ground and went to do something else.

ACTUALLY It’s really funny you should say that 'cause I was saying to myself that these maps are the MOST HALO FEELING MAPS I’VE PLAYED IN A WHILE. At least in this game. Daybreak is really nostalgic feeling. I really like them! I just wish there were more multi-level maps…

I’ve been loving these all day

Daybreak: Love love love love it, has a great nostalgic value and plays perfectly.

Outcast: Didn’t expect to like it but I’m finding I do, although PP campers are a tad annoying

Perdition: Love this as well, has a great Halo 2 feel. The Warthog is used properly on this map

Perdition reminds me of Terminal and Headlong.

Daybreak reminds me of Ascension (with the Banshee) and Standoff (the good parts of Standoff).

Only played Outcast once, and it was Oddball, in one corner of the map, against terrible players. So I can’t just this yet.

But yes, I’m definitely getting that Halo 2 Nostalgia (again!). This is definitely a great Map Pack. I’m loving it! They all play great!

Crimson for me was alright. Majestic was awesome, and so is Castle. I say great job on this!
