Overgrowth - Are you a fan of this map?

Personally, I’m not a big fan.

I’m all for close quarters maps, but I believe it’s got too many power weapons for so much closed up space, and it’s not even a case of smart map control. It’s basically just people hiding around corners with shotgun and sword.

It’s easily the map with the most closed space and narrow corners/corriders, yet…

it has a sword, a shotfun, a railgun AND active camo…

There’s little to no space for BR battles or pistol battles, and there’s always someone camping with a shotty or sword with camo.

I don’t like it personally, but I was wondering what you guys thought of it?

I personally think if a map like Regret and Empire has only one/two power weapons, then how can a map like Overgrowth have so much power stuff on it?

I’m sick of constantly wetting my pants because I’m getting jumped on by the sword or shotgun guys. It feels like if you get the power up weapons… YOU WIN. On other maps this is not always the case since you have open space to run and out pistol/br people with the power weapons.

On overgrowth, if you control the shotgun/sword you win, which isn’t fun to me.

You are starting to understand, but its so much more than just overgrowth. EVERY map that 343 has made or placed in the matchmaking list is atrocious.

As a map, I think it looks great, the way the shadows lie in the halls and then the sun pops out of the broken roof and the puddles that splash as you walk past them makes for great atmosphere in the halo universe and would be great for machinima. Design wise, it’s still great :D. And OP " It feels like if you get the power up weapons… YOU WIN.", if you would look in the description for slayer, it says “Control power weapons to WIN” So…yeah. And Shadow, don’t be a negative nancy. If you don’t like any Halo 5 map, then why are you still on this forum.

I don’t think 343’s maps are great, but none of them are as bad as Orion and Overgrowth.

Despite this urge to control power weapons, the game isn’t completely over on other maps if you don’t have them. You can still use the BR’s/Pistols and armour abilities to outmanvouver players and win despite not always having the sniper/rockets.

This is why the pistol is in Halo 5. Because it can counter power weapons.

On this map, though, it can’t compete. There’s too many situations where people are just camping behind corners with swords and shotguns, and it’s not even a case of skill.

Just another map for me. Don’t like it. Don’t hate it.

This.

Active camo should be replaced with overshield. AC is just further complementing the power weapons that are already complimented by all the tight corners.

Not guna lie I like this map. I think the rail gun could be taken out completely and just have the shot gun and sword, but I have a lot of fun on this map. I love the bugs that chirp in the puddles and the splashing as you run. The tight hallways are fun because you’re never safe. There’s like 4 pathways to anywhere on the map.
I’m not a sword camper and the speed boost comes into play immensly on this map. I can wreck the enemy team with a sword and have enough corners and walls to tuck behind to charge my shields back up.
There’s always a way to flank an enemy no matter where they are posted at, unlike on Pegasus or Empire or Eden where it takes to long to run around. I really enjoy the multiple levels that can be exploited with the BR or magnum from top down or from mid to top.
Aside from it being too power weapon heavy it’s my favorite map in terms of looks and design.
Consider your feathers ruffled I’m standing by to get flamed let’s hear it.

I love this map. It’s like playing a predator game. If you have the sword you can go bananas.

But, if you don’t, you need to play slow and clever. Get stickys or clusters and lurk until the sword runs by. Get the rail gun and stand at the end of a long corridor and pray he doesn’t come from behind.

there are ways to play this map without the sword, but most try play it by running around looking for cqb. It isn’t a map for that, despite the design IMO.

Honestly its just a redux of the same map from the City Garage, no new materials.

I mean, most of them are pretty bland and uninteresting, but atrocious? I’m not sure I can say they’re that bad.

Give examples and reasoning.

Could be better, could be worse. IMO the worst part about it is its obvious recycled scenery from Plaza. I don’t feel as though Plaza/Overgrowth or Empire/Eden come close to being as different from one another as Truth/Regret, which set the bar for remixing.

Get rid of that damn shotgun or sword. No, better yet. Take the shotgun and move it to where the sword spawns, then get rid of the sword. This way the shotty camo combo still exists but, won’t be as common and we still have the railgun for those long range kills in these tight but narrow and long corridors.

I enjoy the power-trip when I grab Camo after grabbing Sword or Shotgun lol… but besides that, it’s honestly not that good of a map.

I would agree, though i’d prefer they get rid of one of the power weapons, and make the actuve camo closer to map center.

I like it because it is different than the others and I like close quarters maps. It’s quite better if you don’t wander off too much and stick with at least 1 other teammate.

Its not bad i like it.

Except I hate Regret and every time it comes up I wish I could leave the lobby

It works out perfectly in FFA when the goal of the game becomes to get more power weapons than everybody else so you can be the alpha monkey. I haven’t gotten to try it anywhere else but Strongholds, where it played fairly.
