Overall thoughts?

Just looking for some pro/cons people have noticed. I’ve been playing halo since CE splitscreen w/ my brothers back in the day, lifelong fan.
PROS:
-maps are good, tho objective Spawns need work, Ctf flags seem unfairly balanced in the BTB map.
-OG music is back!!! Heard those familiar tunes like from halo 3 in the main menu and instantly made me smile. Even the new stuff seems more “halo” than the last two games soundtracks

  • most of the new weapons are cool and fit into the existing arsenal nicely. Tho the pulse rifle kinda sucks
  • I like the mix of old and new style movements. No thruster jets etc, but keeping the clamber is nice.
  • vehicles feel good to drive
  • I like all the new equipment and I think it’s implemented well. So far no game breaking ones i.e. the armor lock from reach
  • spike grenades are dope
  • new “shock” weapons and grenades are a cool addition and I like how they add another way for ground troops to take on vehicles
-Armor customization is dope again. Reminds of reach! Good job so far with the armor. Tho the generic pose of my spartan with his hands near his hips make him look like Ricky Bobby giving an interview lol.

Now for the CONS:

  • aim assist on the Xbox needs work. I lose almost every gunfight I get into with a m&k player cause they can aim so much easier than me and my controller. Or if they don’t wanna notch up the aim assist then tone down the flinch, recoil, and bloom etc. Cause all that combined together makes some of these gunfights near impossible to hit anything.
  • the radar needs work. I’ve pretty much stopped looking at it cause it never shows an enemy anyway unless they’re 2 feet from me it seems like.
  • I can’t tell what I’m being shot with alot. And I don’t know if that’s an audio issue or change the way your shields flash or something. Cause I’ll think I’m being shot by an AR and continue to fight back, then die super quick and realize they killed me with a BR.
  • not sure how I feel about this but I’m leaning more towards CONS, but the way that different weapons spawn in the same spots as others. Like one time I’ll run up and it’s a sniper, then the next time it’s a different gun etc. Power weapon control is right up there with map control as a key component to winning a halo match. Kinda ruins that aspect when you don’t know what weapon you’re gonna get. Tho it does change it up and add variety so I’m kinda torn how I feel about it.
-AR seems overpowered. I’m so used to only using it as a super close range weapon or last resort like in other halos that it’s crazy to me that I get killed with it as often as I do. If they keep it that’s fine, just takes some adjustment to get used to it.
  • general stability/crashes/lag etc issues I occasionally run into, I’m not sure if that’s just “beta” problems or not.

Overall I like it alot, feels like a modernized halo 3 which I dig. Definitely a step in the right direction after the last 2. Especially after playing the crappy cod vanguard beta, I’m glad halo has brought the heat this year!

I’d agree with almost everything you’ve said I think.

Though I’m not sold on the vehicles myself!

Totally onboard with the M&K issue. I’m not feeling it in btb, but in arena, it’s too close to be at that much of a disadvantage.

To be fair I haven’t used some of the vehicles yet they added to BTB. But the ghost feels good, maybe alittle overpowered? I’ve gotten a running riot a few times just in a ghost in both arena and BTB

The Ghost, in all fairness isn’t bad. It’s not my favourite Ghost, but it’s the best vehicle in Infinite that I’ve had the chance to play with.

The BTB map is very meh. Doesn’t feel like BTB at all with the power weapon spawns all over, non-clear paths for driving, rough terrain all over, and delivery of vehicles just leaves a lot to be desired.

I really do not like how the vehicles (specifically the Hog and mongoose) handle. They feel like they have zero gravity under them and hitting a small rock will cause me to flip all of a sudden.

Weapons/shields still need tuning it feels like, TTK is a bit too low IMO but not a huge deal. I really wish the pistol wasn’t the go to weapon for anyone with decent aim it’s just too strong.

There’s just still tons of bugs and especially when it comes to crossplay and the UI it just is not a good experience. Really hope they get things cleaned up for the release but I’m not getting my hopes up.

BTB map is definitely not very vehicle friendly for anything other than the ghost which is fast and small. The ui stuff I’m not sure if that’s just for the beta or if that’s how it’ll look in Dec. If it’s finalized then yea it needs work.

I agree with a lot of your points, thanks for taking the time to type all that up btw. As to why you’re losing more gunfights than you’re used to can probably be boiled down to the people playing the beta are generally going to be more skilled than the population will be at launch, though I’ve only played on PC so can’t really speak to whether the aim assist needs to be improved or not.

Yea there’s definitely an element of “sweatiness” that comes with it being a closed beta. Definitely gonna be easier once the casuals join. But I’ve seen enough people complain about the aim assist to know I’m not the only one. I wouldn’t mind the lack of AA, if they just tone down the recoil and bloom etc.

I’ve only played it for a few hours but a few things jumped out at me. of Note, I am a long time Halo PVE player but moreso a long time Destiny PVP player. With that said, her are some early observations:

  1. Graviton Hammer is OP. No point in using a shotgun/Bulldog or any other weapon in qqc. The radius is exceedingly large and the dmg too high. Tone it down considerablya and give it the gravity factor back.
  2. Radar. Seems useless for the most part for reasons you mentioned. Radar needs to pick up enemy movement earlier than currently detected.
3, Jump - coming from Destiny where there are a lot of jump options, it seems very bland in comparison. I am not suggesting that it needs the # of options but even a double jump feature would add a lot of variety and make movement much more dynamic without impacting the use of grapple hook which is great.
  3. Maps - some great and some not so great. Generally speaking, no point in having vehicles on maps that are too small to accommodate them
  4. Shield Wall - totally underwhelming. Needs a significant buff but I like the idea of shooting away a piece of it without the whole wall being disintegrated. Provide excellent shoot through opportunities. Destiny enemy walls also cause damage if you run through it which is an interesting concept and one that should be considered.
  5. Scoring and knowing what killed me - more info on what killed me when I died. Though the name of the Spartan is easy enough to read, figuring out how I died is not as easy. Just add the weapon/ability the Spartan used to kill me beneath their name.
  • After match results should offer a scoreboard without having to click on each Spartan’s name. Just a QoL improvement

Overall the movement is good and the combat feel fine. Weapon balance is an ongoing process so not too concerned about it but I wanted to offer feedback regardless. More feedback to come at a later time.

Is anyone else really missing the H5 boost?

I’m not talking “ah, I can’t play without it, what has 343 done?!”, I’m just constantly trying to mash a Dodge/boost button that doesn’t do that anymore :joy:

Am I the only one noticing M&K fires the pistol at light speeds? Like I get a good 4 shots off before M&K shreds me with the whole clip. If this is a genuine thing I think it could use a re-work. The only other thing I’ve noticed is some people have a very fast melee, like killed 3 of my teammates and me in BTB in less time than it took for me to turn around and see him hit me a second time. I Don’t know what happened but it’s only happened twice and both times from the same player. Otherwise the game feels good in my opinion.

For the most part i agree with what you said dude. The one thing i have to add is that sprinting in this game seems to me to be effectively useless as its literally a slightly faster jog and doesnt help in forward movement at all. Honestly made all the games i played feel like they just dragged on and was being played through molasses. If 343 could boost the speed a bit more so you actually go faster that would be great. Cause you really shouldnt have the ability to jog behind someone who is sprinting and still be able to connect with a melee hit to kill em. The sprinter should be able to pull away quickly from the jogger.

Map design is good, I’m happy the AR is more viable at range now, and aesthetics are a big improvement on Halo 4 & 5. However, this game controls like -Yoink-, vehicles have no physics to them, sniper zooms in too far, etc. There’s a litany of things wrong with this game, primarily aiming, but what do you expect when you prioritize monetization over delivering a solid product.

That’s a very comprehensive list and I pretty much agree with all of it. My biggest con has to be the ttk, it’s WAY too quick. Maybe they can keep it this way for a competitive playlist or something but for general play in a Halo game it makes me feel more like a Marine than a Spartan. My biggest pros have to go towards the style and Maps, I really love the look of this Halo and I’ve honestly enjoyed maps like Bazaar and Fragmentation, they’re beautiful and full of character. This game has so much potential but there are some thick chains holding it back, IMO.
