I dont remember much about H3, but I could have sworn that getting something like a Rocket Launcher, shotgun, sniper rifle, or whatever was something special since there were only one or two on the map that spawned about every 10min…
I really only play Dominion (till they decide to bring extraction of infiltration back) and it seems like there are about way too many on the map. The game starts with about 4 from the beginning, then after bases are captured up to 9 more start to spawn every 40 or so seconds…
yes there are way too many power weapons in the game. seeing as everyone can now have rockets and sniper. it gets simply ridiculous. plus i would count camo and boltshot as a power weapon.
It’s almost a necessary evil on BTIF to offset the vehicles. If there were not that many made available at the onset… maybe people would feel differently.

I think there is. Last night I got two binary rifles in a row with my ordnance drops. This is just a theory, but I also think blue team gets certain power weapons more than the red team.
Yes, but there was only one of them. The problem isnt an over-saturation, its a lack of anything to fight over. Having your team push on sniper/rocket spawn to get it back for your team was hugely important. It gave the gameplay a dynamic feel, the conditions on the battlefield changed. Now, you have zero motivation to move, at all. Nice.
I dunno, I know people will preach about map control and such. But I kind of like the game being more about who’s a straight up better fighter versus who’s better at -yoinking- the power weapons.
It also for me got really old getting a sniper rifle and having one or two whiny man-babies crying because they didn’t get “their” gun and then griefing you until they get you killed.
I agree there are way too many power weapons. It is extremely frustrating, especially when dealing with ordinance drops. Make the power weapons spawn on map and let the teams battle it out for them, the way Halo is supposed to.
Yep I agree OP, though I don’t have a problem with lower level power weapons like shotguns and sticky detonators being in ordinance. What I have a problem with is that snipers and rockets being in ordinance. For one I think the binary rifle should be taken out of multiplayer and be a custom only weapon. Giving someone a one shot kill at any range is something that makes good players invincible and gives noobs free kills. Just because there is a laser site doesn’t balance it. You just run around a corner and someone “quick scopes” you (I think that’s a term, something used in CoD when someone snipes fast and drops out of zoom instantly after) isn’t exactly balanced.
> But I kind of like the game being more about who’s a straight up better fighter versus who’s better at -yoinking- the power weapons.
That makes no sense.
You can be better than someone, and while you’re fighting that person, they shoot your teammate running behind you once and get an assist. Now their ordnance meter is full, they go behind cover, and use the drop for rockets. Now it’s rockets vs your dmr when it would’ve been dmr vs dmr. The outcome would’ve been in your favor, but now it’s not because they just got a random power weapon by doing as little as possible.
You can also argue in regards to map control that the better fighter/team will get the static power weapons showing that they are the better fighter/team.

At first, I thought that’s what would happen.
Now I realise it just means EVERYONE is yoinking WITH the power weapons. It’s…not pleasant. And certainly not as balanced as I thought it might be. In fact, it just feels like a fustercluck…

Maybe I’m weird, but I like that feeling. I’m like Jeff Goldblum in Jurassic Park… choas man, choas.
Yes, power weapon spawns provided an objective within Slayer itself. It is like COTH or CTF, Oddball there is an objective your team must fight for. Multiple. Better teams will be able to utilize teamwork, and the weapons they already gathered, to procure these new spawns.
Perhaps some of the mechanics, allowing a team to control the respawn of said weapons, provided too much of an advantage to teams once they had it. But they could have eliminated those mechanics, without removing the concept completely.
Regardless of the “balance” issues with ordinance VS weapon drops (which as pointed out, sucks when someones meter fills to give them an advantage against you), the gameplay is ruined because nobody HAS A REASON TO MOVE.
Camping is way more of an issue in this halo than any other. Hiding around corners? Sitting in one spot, cloaked?
Ill give 343 credit, Promethean vision helps counter this a ton. However, it is pratically a must have ability at this point because otherwise the game becomes way to slow and un-fun.
