Lately I’ve seen more and more people doing this, but is coring from the outside in WZA considered cheating? I think it is cheap and cowardly and don’t do it (except in cases where the same individuals do it repeatedly to me since apparently it’s okay with them). Is this considered cheating? Will it be fixed?
What do you mean by outside coring can you name an example?

On most maps, you can be outside the core and hit the core with a fuel rod. Since you are so far from the base, it’s impossible for defense to stop in most cases.

So basically it’s threading the needle. That certainly doesn’t constitute cheating.

It is threading a needle, but it appears to be against the design of the game - there is no practical way to prevent it, and it is only on certain maps. This seems to imply a design error, which I would consider cheating or at the very least a glitch.

If there is a clearly visible gap that allows a fuel rod projectile to pass through and hit the core, then it could have been a design oversight or it could be intentional. However, if the player is within the confines of the map and only has to know exactly where to stand in order to thread that needle, then it’s not cheating. Standing on x-marks-the-spot isnt glitching either, unless you’re inside a wall or the projectile is going through walls in order to accomplish this feat.
Honestly to me it just sounds like a smart strategy if you know where to stand. Annoying for the enemy team, sure, but not illegal. Like spawn trapping. Also, if you get a camo buff and sneak out you could take out the fuel rod guy. It may be difficult to deal with but it’s not impossible.

I dont see how it could be a design oversight. If their intention was to make the core completely protected, except for the entry doors, it seems like a very simple thing to test from outside.

Depending on how precise one must be in order to successfully hit the core from outside the room, it could have been an oversight in that the devs probably didn’t attempt aiming at the core from every single point on the map (that’d be impossible). Hell, there are plenty of bugs and unintentional design exploits found by fans after a game comes out simply because it’s impossible for devs to find every problem. But whether it was an oversight or not, I don’t consider it cheating. If it was an oversight, 343i would have fixed it if it was that big an issue. But I feel like people have been doing this for long enough that 343 knows about it, so since it hasn’t been changed I think they’re find with it.
You’ve gotta be at the perfect angle to pull off core shots from outside the home base, especially from a distance. The gap created from the angle is small and you still can’t actually see the core, so you’re just firing into the room hoping to hit something. At the very least, it helps prevent the defending team from holing up in the core room and just camping the doors. Someone will have to come out and deal with it or just let the core be shot at.
No it’s not cheating lol. I don’t do it, mainly because I would rather someone with a better shot do it, and I can just concentrate on taking enemies out.
I don’t think it’s cheating. Annoying yes but easy to take that person out since they are out in the open. By that time everyone has at least 5 or 6 reqs, grab a sniper and snipe them.
I didn’t think people actually did that, that explains a lot now when I think about it.

My favorite method is to spawn a Light of URS, wait for my REQ level to get back to 4 and spawn a camo. Walk past everyone and unleash hell on the core.
This has been known about since launch or very soon after. If it is “cheating” it would have been fixed by now.
Yeah, that’s been around for a long time and it wasn’t fixed when they were still doing updates and now they’re done with that kind of stuff, so I think it’s safe to say that it’s never gonna get fixed.
I haven’t seen it but heard of people using Ad Victoriams coring the core with guiding the rockets.
that’s news to me, but i haven’t played WZA in a long time

Yeah that’s legit, I didn’t see it as cheating to tell you the truth.
It is a valid tactic that only really works against weaker teams since the attackers have to have decent control of the enemy base to pull it off. Why would they bother rushing into the meat grinder of the core room if they can just snipe it from outside? Similarly would you consider a party coordinating a Ultra Ghost blitz of the core to be cheating? If you do, me and my party are sorry we were really drunk that night.

I agree, though in tight games it can be really hard for the defenders to get outside the core base. As for a ghost rush, it is very easy to counter with a Void’s Tear and Ad Vic.

Here’s what my thoughts were:
- It is only doable on 5/6 maps - It can only be done from one side - You have to stand in an exact spot; a “thread” or “ray” doesn’t work, it is a single point - It is available on the maps that already favor attackers, and not the hardest map to attack on (Temple) - It only works with 2 weapons. The fact it isn’t uniform seems odd. It seems unlikely it was designed due to those points, which would warrant it’s a glitch. However, I could be wrong, and if so, the whole WZA gameplay will be much different since the core is near impossible to defend.
