Outriders Lost 90% of Steam Players due to their terrible reward system (among other issues)

Let that sink in for a bit.

Whilst a lot of people were really looking forward to Outriders, it was unfortunately considered DoA (or just shortly after arrival). Among other issues that plagued that game like an Inventory wipe glitch, the vast majority of players dropped the game due to its terrible reward system, dealing with a massive and lengthy grind for a single meagre reward turned away a lot of players. but by the time it was adjusted, the platers had already moved on. Sound familiar?

And Anthem too, the glitch that caused better item drop rates, that made their community really happy and that it felt “natural” to get better rewards more often instead of the lengthy grind for something slightly better than coal, was unfortunately patched, as it was an “unintended feature” Player backlash caused the Devs to slightly alter the drop rates to be somewhat more in-line with how the glitch performed but it still wasn’t the same. Anthem unfortunately was abandoned because of typical EA practices though.

History is doomed to repeat itself, let it not repeat with Infinite please. Otherwise I can see a lot of Infinity based memes being created.

P.S. I’ve played both Anthem and Outriders, Anthem more so, and I never had a better weapon drop for me than the deluxe/pre-order bonus weapons that were given to me at the very start of the game, just to help put that into perspective.

I thought the big reason loads of people quit was because they released a patch and it wiped loads of people’s progress?

You’re not wrong, that was also a major factor, but couple with the lengthy grind for terrible rewards, people just gave up.

If the grind wasn’t that bad, I doubt many people would’ve mind, I know for myself I didn’t get all that far in terms of grinding or actual progress so it wasn’t exactly a big deal for me to start again, but the grind was what turned me away ultimately as I felt that putting in the time again to reclaim what little progress I made just wasn’t worth the grind.

The gameplay turned me off to be honest. Found the game dreadfully boring.

Also important to remember that Outriders was a new IP. Halo has a dedicated following.

That’s probably the only thing that will keep Halo out of the red. Imagine if Halo Infinite was a new IP, game would be DOA.

And that dedicated following is already moving.

Eh, you’re bound to lose a small percentile initially with a F2P title. If it doesn’t capture interest, then there’s no buyers remorse. That being said… the dedicated core of the community has stuck through much much worse from both 343i and Bungie.
