Under the cover of accessibility and good visibility, the outline system exists solely so you get to see your shiny Spartan in the beginning of the game and so you are enticed to buy more stuff as you see other Spartans dripped up with cool items from the store.
Now I don’t camp all the time, but there’s a problem with the system when I’m crouched behind a rock in BTB with only my head showing, and players across the map that aren’t even looking in my direction start shooting me.
I think seeing your Spartan and others in pre game and post game, as well as in profiles, in their cool pose and colors, like it was in Halo 5, should be enough. It doesn’t need to be an eyesore the whole time, we can barely see them in action anyway.
Nothing would’ve stopped them from losing outlines altogether and using overhead name tags instead, while still maintaining player-chosen colors in game.
It’s for accessibility, at least for this part of the game. Can’t say the same for progression or customization though.
Eh, I mean in every Halo, RvB, Blue team always had the better map camo, even if just barely, because of how much Red contrasts with grass, walls, and sky. At least now everyone is very obvious and not camping in bushes across the map without drawing attention to themselves. I always wondered if Red/Blue colorblind people did actually have a problem playing Halo in the past though.
The fact that you can’t even toggle RvB as an accessibility option speaks volumes for why this change was made, purely to showcase armor as a monetization strategy rather than being for gameplay tuning.
I actually welcome the change. It always made me sad having my color scheme only visible if someone looked at me in the menus. Plus, for me at least, it helps me find my friends easier in a fire fight.
I do believe the accessibility option should be there, but calling it out for monetization might be a stretch.
