There are a few changes with the outlines that’d greatly benefit gameplay/immersion if implemented that I’ll talk about here. It’s of course my opinion, but it’s gotta be addressed:
- Allow us to have a classic red vs blue option, some people don’t like the outlines, I personally like them, still worth giving those people what they want. - Allow for players to select shield colors independent of team color. I like my shield to be that classic color y’know? But I’d rather have blue outlines on my team, please at least allow for players to change their own shield color. - Disable ally outlines through walls/vehicles/non transparent objects. I’d much rather just have a clan tag/call sign hovering above someone’s head that I can see than their silhouette moving around, its just distracting to me.That’s really about it as far as this element goes. Also, bring back super combine kills through over shield.
I feel like halo has a solution to solve the visibly easily with the armor lights aswell. I feel like they should be colored.
If they decide to keep outlines either way, at least make sure that the outlines are less visible from afar, don’t know how many times I’ve seen someone out in a regular place (aka not camping) but so far away that I shouldn’t have been able to really see them if I didn’t look for them.
Also something that could be added(this goes for sniper flare aswell) the outline shine through the distance fog easier if they stay in the same spot for too long. Although I feel like even though I hate campers, they’re a part of the gameplay and alot of players like to camp so let them, they won’t win like that, it hasn’t really been a problem with halo’s ttk?
A big issue with outlines is that ambushes are practically dead, what i mean is that there were a few times in the flight where an enemy would have had the drop on me but the barrel of his gun was sticking out, which glowed the outlines color, so i just grenaded him out. what would have been a perfect set up failed because of like 6 pixels of glow.
It’s awesome hearing more people talking about the advantage they’re getting here. Sure alot of people will always complain about getting an unfair experience and losing but people complaining about getting a win they shouldn’t have sounds like the perfect critic.

yeah thats not a good thing IMO, it punishes what should have been a perfect ploy. in my opinion outlines should NOT do the following
- cast light that can be seen even if the person cant - be around weapons at all - if the torso and head are hidden the outline should disappear, catching people because of an inch of toe is glowing brighter then the sun is bad game design.in the flight when ever I killed someone because their toe was glowing or the barrel was barely sticking out and glowing i didnt feel like i won, i felt like i just cheated with wallhacks, there was no challenge.

Absolutely agree that weapons should never have outlines or cast any light at all!
I’m ok with outlines on enemies but instead of having that “glow” I feel like just having the outline be just as opaque and visible as the armor itself.
Almost like how I see them do in cell-shaded games. Hard to say if it would work the same with colored outlines but i feel like the outlines in games like borderlands is just visible enough.
Otherwise for me the perfect solution would just be having outlines on friendly spartans and not have any outlines on enemies.
(Also I really hope they dont implement outlines in FFA. Theres absolutely no need for them there.)
I’m okay with the new color elements for shields cause you can pick your color. But the outlines on enemies is just bad, stealth is pretty much no longer viable which sucks.
What if they did some kind of system like rocket league where you can choose different red/blue armor coatings? This would also help them with micro transaction revenue. Now all you need is one coating you’re happy with, you could have 3 different ones for team/non team gamemodes
