I’m sure some of you are as excited as I am about this news. Valve recently revealed their new handheld device known as " Steam Deck" and i’m sure you’ll all love to hear this, we’ll be able to play Halo MCC and Halo Infinite for the first time ever on a handheld device via our Steam accounts !
I only heard/seen this last night for the first time. I love my switch, but ive always hated that i cant play my xbox games on the go on my switch (for obvious reasons). But now i wont have to worry! My only thing i wish it had was 1080p minimum resolution, But im sure that will come in time.

Nintendo brought out the GameBoy and Sony gave us the PSP; I truly think Microsoft needs to invest in a handheld device as well. We already have the Play Anywhere feature on some games but a portable device would bring a literal meaning to the feature.
I don’t game on PC, so I hadn’t thought about this as an option, but it sounds awesome. Would be awesome to take Halo on the go!
Looks genuinely cool, here’s the page if anyone is interested. If I hear good things about it before it’s available in Australia, I’d consider selling my PC. I’ve been looking for a smaller cleaner gaming alternative to my PC and the Steam Deck looks just like that. Between the portability and the the Switch style dock, this is a really exciting piece of tech. And at a really good price too.
However Valve have a very bad habit of releasing cool hardware, then promptly abandoning it a year or so later. See the Steam Controller, Steam Link and Steam Box. Furthermore, the Steam Deck is running Arch Linux, not Windows, and runs games through software called ‘Proton’ which is essentially a Windows emulator for Linux. A fair few games may not work well on it, you can check out ProtonDB to see how well games should run on it. Here is MCC and Halo Wars 1 for reference. Who knows how well Infinite might run?
You can install Windows but it sounds a but dubious. The battery life also sounds quite short, I’d love to wait for ‘Steam Deck 2’ but I’m not sure if that’s something Valve would ever do.
Consider me sceptical but excited! Here’s hoping it’s as cool as it looks.

Thanks for the information! I put $5 down but worse comes to worse it might have resale value like the steam link/Controller did later in its life span

I think their idea with Xbox Game pass beats the whole handheld device idea, especially since games run smoothly on a mobile phone and you can even connect a controller either wirelessly or via proper mobile controllers. Also, the only problem I can find is damaging battery life long-term and the fact that you can’t game for long hours because the batteries cant handle it and phones overheat.
Truth be told, the only Stream Deck worth purchasing is the 512 GB one and it’s over 600€. Unlucky.

Seriously, that will cost? mmmm, it’s better to buy a desktop console knowing that you get double the space!

100% agree a MS handheld device would be perfect. Though, currently the “play anywhere” feature is not really an option for us Australians as the required bandwith is too low to play on mobile on the go even with the latest 5g devices. I can play anywhere in my household on my mobile while connected to my wifi without any issues but outside the home is unfortunately not an option.
i would expect as much with halo being what made xbox so successful in the beginning im glad they are doing that. Just helps push the game out to reach more people.
I already have one reserved! I’m so excited to finally be able to play Halo on the go without horrendous input lag (looking at you, XCG
).

I think the “good” thing about Stream Deck is that it’s a portable PC, essentially. It can run pretty much anything a PC can run and it’s handheld… but for the price, it’s going to be a big “No” from me. But that’s me. I know plenty of people who will, happily, purchase it and I can totally understand why.

Because its valve once i see it hit sales and i can buy it and try it i will believe it. remember people who want HF3 are still waiting and may wait forever even thought they would make a killing on HF3.
I can see it now. I approach a girl at a party. We flirt for a bit. She decides to take me into another room. We lay down on a bed.
Me: I brought something with me tonight in case I got to “play” with someone.
Her: Oh yeah? Whats that?
I get close to whisper in her ear.
Me: I’m really good at this game from 2007.
Proceeds to pull out Steam Deck and play MCC.

I saw this announcement on the Steam homepage on day 1 and reserved 1 the next day, I am really exited for this. It took me about 20mins of trying to reserve and the Steam servers just crashing, but when my order finally went through my estimated shipping date was Q1 2022, but oh well, at least my reservation is in. I can’t wait for some youtubers to get their hands on these and do some in depth testing also.

Ya, I have tried Xcloud on my mobile using stellar internet, and the input lag always just killed the experience for me, so the Steam Deck will definitely be the way to go for a good mobile halo experience.

Same here. Streaming games from the cloud will never be a viable option for me, even though my connection is able to handle it. The input lag is just way too bad.
If I may throw in my two cents
playing awesome pc games or xbox games on the go would be fun but, most of them I want to give a lot of attention, and well you cant give them that attention while out and about, plus you worry about the sun, battery life, honestly? its just not really worth it to game on the go anyway, if anything just…get a book or at best a small game for your phone, like…scrabble
