After being a long time Halo player, I started to get fed up with Halo 4, so I tried Far Cry 3’s multiplayer. Big Mistake. I cannot express just how much that experience frustrated me. It’s insane. I realize that being more “realistic,” that I should be more careful since you die so quickly in that game but the whole experience is just ridiculous. I try to run-and-gun, I die. I try to be patient, I die. I mix up some movement with patience, I still die. I figured that my weapons and equipment were simply no match for the higher-level players, so I just kept playing to unlock more stuff, but the outcome is still the same.
Halo 4 is infinitely more fun than any game using Call of Duty style gameplay mechanics. The thing is, there’s no way to truly be “realistic” in a video game and still be fun. Recoil mechanics, mini-map systems, and dying in 3 shots from an automatic weapon that carries 30 rounds are all examples of why Halo did things right to begin with for shooter games.
I don’t want to keep ranting. I can’t get all my thoughts out about why Halo is so vastly superior to any other shooter, but it is, trust me.
That’s not saying that Halo is perfect. There are some things that I think should be fixed in Halo 4, or at least in Halo 5.
-
A tad faster kill times. And I do mean just a tad. Make BR and DMR 4 Shot kills, fix the DMR bloom to accommodate so it’s not so overpowered, and buff the storm rifle and lessen the suppressor’s bloom just a little.
-
Make Vehicles stronger and just a little faster. I’m ok for keeping sprint in, so we need vehicles that are worth our time. They are underused because they are so weak.
-
Remove as much randomness as is reasonable. Random weapon spawns were a neat idea, but I think the lack of predictability is hurting Halo 4 in the long run. Have a few fixed weapon spawns, like certain power weapons, and all supporting weapons can have random spawns. Seem ok?
-
Overhaul the Armor Abilities. As they are now, some are overused and overpowered while many are underused and not very useful. Make Jetpack use fuel faster, but let it reach it’s maximum height just as quickly. It should be for quick height changes, like a jump pack not flying around like Iron Man. Make thruster pack faster with a longer evade distance. Make Active Camo only useful when standing still. If we can use it in a loadout, it needs to be nerfed considerably. Even crouch-walking it should leave you exposed. Make Hardlight shield come out quicker and last a little longer. Reduce Promethean Vision’s range for detecting enemy heat signatures. Make Autosentry fire quicker, but perhaps not as fast as it does in Spartan Ops. It’s barely noticeable in Multiplayer.
-
Fix Overpowered Weapons like the Boltshot. Reduce its range to point-blank. I’m on the fence about keeping it a 1SK or making it 2SK. If we’re all able to use plasma pistols, make the EMP against Vehicles a significantly shorter duration and/or make overcharges use up more energy.
That’s about all I think needs to be fixed. I’m sure all of it can be, since multiplayer is a required hdd install, and 343i would be able to alter the game files from there. This was why Reach didn’t get a very extensive title update, since many things couldn’t be changed on the fundamental level because it was on the disc.
After I played Halo 4 for a month, I started to get bored with it. I figured since Black Ops 2 was already out, I would get it for Christmas and play that game instead. I couldn’t even get through the Campaign for Black Ops 2, beat probably 75% of the game, but then I just stopped. After that, I just stopped playing games all together until about a week ago and then a came back to Halo 4 with a new appreciation for the game. It definitely still has some problems, but after Black Ops 2, seems like a pretty big improvement. Although they have added some stuff since I was gone. Still I think Black Ops 2 was the biggest factor for my new attitude towards Halo 4.
Even though im probably seen as those 343 fanboys ( im not) i did have days where i just stopped played some COD really just kind of got bored aftger running into a plathora of little 10 year olds and campers.
The kill times are way to fast as they are and shouldn’t be recuded but rather increased (Or at least no have every other weapon a one-shot weapon).
I was playing some BF3 and Blops 2, after those horrible experiences Halo 4 has been my go-to game for a while now. I’ve also been playing some h3, but it’s not so enjoyable since the population is so low, and I always end up playing the same maps, even though I have all the map packs…
Halo 4 on the Xbox 360, and Halo: Combat Evolved on the PC are the only Halo games I currently have…and its quite surprising and shocking that I SOMETIMES choose to go and play Halo: Combat Evolved on the PC instead of Halo 4.
My friends are heavy CoD players. I also play Black Ops 2 when they are online. When I am playing CoD it reminds me why I do love playing Halo so much more. The out right campiness of CoD is horrendous. The fast kill times give me no chance to respond to those campy jerks. Someone laying in the grass across the map spawn sniping gets real old real quick, all the while I am thinking “Wish I was playing Halo right now.”
I 100% believe Halo 4 is a great game, even with the evil OP boltshot. I know 343 is listening to these forums and not to mention the numbers online. They listened even for Halo Reach which wasn’t there game at all. So the issues that are coming up consistently are very seriously being looked at. No one sets out to make a bad game, but mistakes will be made no matter how hard you try.
I will be playing Halo over any other FPS out there.
You know what shooter is REALLY frustrating? Freakin Battlefield 3! OMFG! I mean, it’s realistic, graphics are awesome, maneuvers are cool, but reaction time is way slow. You would think that your guy would be all “Oh, sh**, I’m being shot at!” then you press the button and he snaps into cover. No it’s “Oh, I’m being shot at.” takes 5 seconds just to get down on a knee to take cover. But by then, you’re already dead. And most of the time you’re being shot at you don’t know where they are until you’re already dead. And there’s SO MUCH GETTING SHOT IN THE BACK! I can’t begin to tell you how much BF3 multiplayer makes me rage. It’s games like that that make me ADORE Halo 4!
I was going to post a thread about this. I 100% agree. This is why I don’t play SWAT. I can’t stand fast kill times because after playing Halo for so many years it sucks the fun out for me.

Yeah, when I was playing the Community forge test playlist I was searching for a game, and the Join in progress system would put me in a game, and then I found out it was Swat… I don’t mind it that much, but honestly, if I wanted to run around killing people in one shot, I would play Call of Duty or something. I don’t rage over it though since it only happens once out of a good number of games. It does suck the fun out of it for me a little too, but oh well. If people vote for it I’ll play it, just not multiple times without a break from it.
no … not really.
Halo 4 is pretty much a great annoyance when crap like the boltshot and JIP exists.
When I play halo 3, BF3, MW2, Black Ops (not 2), or mass effect 3 multiplayer I usually leave the night satisfied. In halo 4 I may have an entire night where I end with a kill spread of +200 but that one time I get killed by a cheap boltshot user is enough to ruin it all.
I like bf and cod, I don’t really understand the complaints. I think if you shoot a guy in the head he should die if he has no helmet…

I don’t mind headshots killing in one shot. What I mind is most of the weapons are fully automatic and they are far too easy to get headshots with. Imagine playing SWAT in which you can use the AR and it can get headshots. Yeah… not fun.
I think it might be somewhat tolerable if other games had the motion tracker system instead of having enemies only visible on the map when they fire. That system makes it far too easy to sneak up on people. Take this for example: I’m securing an area and there are no enemies in sight. I turn around to move to the next area, and I’m immediately knifed from behind by an enemy that just so happened to not be there a second ago. Not cool. A motion tracker would let me face him head-to-head, and I think that is part of what makes halo work.
In CoD and others, you win by taking your opponent by surprise since “whoever sees who first, wins.”
In Halo, you win by skill because everyone is given a fighting chance.
BF3 can be annoying when you spawn and can’t get a vehicle and then have to run across the map only to get sniped halfway to your destination. Gears and CoD are always a lot of fun. Can’t even think of another competitively driven shooter anyone still plays tbh.
Other games are more frustrating? Um, I can play Black Ops 2 and regularly get matched with an Australian host with no lag. In Halo 4, I can’t shoot my targets because I’m seeing where they used to be 5 seconds ago and not where they currently are.
Second, a lot of gamers mis-understand what the term “realistic” means when it comes to videogames.
Third, short killtimes are what I think a poison that CoD is influencing the gaming industry with and now everybody thinks that success is only determined by short killtimes. Now-a-days, people rate weapons even in Halo as “lame” if their killtimes are beyond one second.

Didnt play CE or H2 then?
Kill times are not fast in Halo 4. Blame bullet mag/aim assist/flinch.
