Anyone else find it silly that Osiris is taking orders from Spartan Palmer? I mean, I know she’s the commander and all, but I was kind of hoping Osiris would answer to someone a little higher, as if they were their own unit that reported directly to ONI or something.
For all intents and purposes, Spartan Palmer is a joke of a commander. She’s a whiny petulant brat with the maturity of a twelve year old going through puberty. Seeing an elite group like Osiris answer to her kind of undermines their badassedness. Can’t wait to see Halsey lay the smack down on her again.
but she is still a superior officer hence they follow orders as long as they do not conflict with the orders already received by ONI which obviously outranks Palmer. Isn’t that how it works in the military anyhow?
If Osiris is being launched from Infinity, then Palmer is their Commander. They still got the oders from Lasky, who probably got it from ONI/UNSC admirality, but Lasky and Palmer giving the briefing makes sense.
I’d rather them just tighten up Palmer’s character in H5. I liked her in the game but she lost me in Spartan Ops. She has plenty of potential here, so no point introducing a new character when an improved Palmer will do the trick.

I consider Palmer a huge mistake in the halo universe and see her as someone pet project that got too important. She seems fake to me and forced, a poor substitute to Amanda Keys and a plethora of other characters.
I hated Palmer in Spartan Ops (with a passion) but after Initiation and Escalation and now her brief appearance in the opening cinematic, I like her quite a bit.
They’ve adjusted her personality and now she’s still tough as nails without the abrasive arrogance. I think that a point in escalation where she blows a mission because of her obsession with Halsey made her realize her hubris and brought about this change in character. I wish they would’ve gone a little bit deeper with it, though.
Anyway, OT:
FT Osiris is on a super secret Black OP, which means that for security reasons they won’t be briefed until the last possible second. Infinity, being the UNSC’s first line of defense, is already at the scene. Osiris was flown to Infinity because it is the natural choice when deciding where to launch a fireteam from. ONI can’t issue orders securely and at the exact appropriate time from HQ in Sydney in another part of the Galaxy, so the orders are given to Lasky, captain of infinity who along with Palmer brief FT Osiris once they are in the Condor heading to the drop.

Given whats revealed in the trailer its likely the original orders were from Lord Hood (head of navy) or the UNSC Defence council rather then Osmin (CICONI).

I actually felt just the opposite. There were instances where she made very selfish decisions that endangered her team, and a point at which Halsey literally -Yoink- slaps her for being a whiny brat.
Skilled in battle? No doubt. But capable of the maturity and level-headedness to be a commander of the Spartans? No way.
OSIRIS answers to ONI’s top brass but must follow the chain of command until their direct orders come under conflict from said CoC.
While on Infinity, Spartans answer only to the Ship’s CO and XO, and Spartan CO… In that order of overseer. All Spartans report directly to their Fireteam Leader. The FL’s report directly to Palmer.
Palmer reports to the CO and XO as one. The CO commands all but the XO runs the everyday functions of the ship, including security. When needed, the XO commands Palmer and her Spartans for ship security functions. Off-ship functions are ordered by the CO. One way or the other, Palmer must report to CO or XO on anything her Spartans do.
I’m guessing Palmer is commanding them because this is not the ONI mission yet, this is just hunting down Halsey. I assume they will get direct orders from ONI when they have to hunt the chief .
Palmer not all that bad she a tenacious and aggressive fighter hell she killed a hunter with her bare hands! Her attitude isn’t ideal but hey I couldn’t care less, she can kick -Yoink- that’s her job therefore I don’t see a problem for me anyway.
Who’s to say that Osiris even works for ONI? I mean the only relationship is Locke being Ex-ONI. Locke wouldn’t have the Ex beside his name if he was still working for them
I will be honest, I was hoping Locke and Palmer would have a kind of rivalry, since he’s ONI’s attack dog on a special assignment, and Palmer is in charge of things on Infinity, it makes sense they’d butt heads from time to time. But maybe what we saw was Locke being nice to Palmer because he didn’t have time to deal with an argument.
