I was reading through Halsey’s Journel yesterday whilst looking for the Keye’s Loop document, and another document fell put. It was this: Click here.
Now. In that document you will notice that Orion Candidate 047 had suffered from a large dioxin intact whilst they were young which had adverse affects on their augmentation procedure, giving them ‘Buran’s Syndrome’. A disease made up by ONI to disguise the side-affects.
Now for the theory:
I believe that ORION-047 is Sergeant Avery Johnson. And that it was this Dioxin intake paired with his augmentation procedures that created his immunity to the Flood.
Furthermore, I believe it was this same Dioxin intake that was the original cure/vaccine that was passed from the Precursors to Humanity.
I believe this because it was said that when Humanity first defeated the Flood, it cost us almost 2/3 of the general population. These deaths could have been caused by the Dioxin.
The cure ancient Humanity found literally kills and sterilizes the Flood super-cell. The cure worked by giving it to about 1/3 of the existing Human population, and sending them out against the Flood.
Johnson didn’t have an immunity to the Flood. It was retconned in the Graphic Novel. He was never infected to begin with. Boren’s Syndrome is only a cover up for the augmentations for the ORION project, nothing more.
> Johnson didn’t have an immunity to the Flood. It was retconned in the Graphic Novel. He was never infected to begin with. Boren’s Syndrome is only a cover up for the augmentations for the ORION project, nothing more.
Johnson is immune. Look at the Graphic Novel again. Infection forms try to infect him a few times, and he’s just able to push them off. A normal human would be screwed.
Boren’s Syndrome was invented to explain Johnson’s unique medical condition. Why the term was fake, the condition was.
> Johnson didn’t have an immunity to the Flood. It was retconned in the Graphic Novel. He was never infected to begin with. Boren’s Syndrome is only a cover up for the augmentations for the ORION project, nothing more.
First Strike shows Johnson has Flood DNA mixed with his own.

Yes, dead Flood cells that cannot infect anything anymore. These were the cells that tried and failed to attack his central nervous system.
Yes he is immune, but it was a one in a million shot of his augmentations screwing up his nerves to the point where the Flood can no longer use them to consume his body and mind. He was infected, but he effectively isolated the disease and his immune system destroyed the infection.
Boren’s syndrome doesn’t exist. It is a cover-up for the side-effects experienced by Orion soldiers.
@OP, what exactly do you know about Dioxin to draw this conclusion? All you say is that Dioxin might have caused Johnson’s immunity.

In the Graphic Novel Johnson is not infected. None of the infection forms pierce his skin so he cannot be infected. The Graphic Novel came out after First Strike and therefore retcons Johnson’s infection. Apparently Bungie never like the idea of a Flood immunity which is why they changed it. Now, I don’t have the re-issue of First Strike so if it was left in the novel then I guess 343i undid Bungie’s retcon and Johnson is once again immune. Is that the case?

I always assumed it was his skill in combat that kept him uninfected.

No one has ever conceded a point on this forum, EVER. Someone says “the sky is blue and water is wet” someone else says “No youre wrong.”
Its not that unlikely. You know there are quite a few people in the world who are fully immune to -Yoink!- right?

Which is irrelevant because switch is correct. Do i really need to go get the interview with staten himself stating that he didn’t like johnson being immune hence the HGN?
People don’t yield on this forum because (for some reason) The waypoint forum always thinks they are correct or labels things as “speculation” or “conjecture”. Yet threads about who would win in a fight between MC and noble 6 get pages of discussions. Along with crap like " Is master chief a forerunner"?
I will gladly be the first person to concede a point. I feel it is both unproductive, and illogical. I have seen your evidence and will gladly say that I feel that Johnson is not immune to the Flood.
Ok ill bust out my HGN and see whats up. Maybe he isnt immune, if not though i have no idea how he survived the “weapons cache” incident on alpha halo. The whole squad clearly got completely swarmed with flood.

No need. Joseph Staten is no longer in charge of Halo anymore and 343i never retconned the reprinting of “First Strike” to omit the scene with Halsey’s analysis of his immunity which means immunity still stands as a valid reason until stated otherwise by 343i.

I’ve seen the interview. Staten may not have liked the explaination, but it’s canon, and has been. Nothing in the HGN contradicts Johnson’s immunity or offers an alternate explaination. It just goes into detail of how he got out of the Forerunner structure after the Flood attacked his squad.

First Strike says he was infected, the HGN shows he was not. I’d say that a pretty clear contradiction. However, apparently the re-issue of the novel left the infection in so the retcon has been retconned.
I distinctly remember halsey mentioning something about Johnson’s “Boren syndrome” in glasslands, which I believe would override all other canon given its the most recent release and has been mentioned to be connected to halo 4. If someone could help me out here it would be great, I’m at work and unable to look at the book. I am however 95% sure it has the answer

I’ve always wondered if people read the other posts before they reply. Apparently not, as this proves.
Boren’s syndrom is a faux desease, designed to trick the public eye into thinking that these were not the side effects of the Orion Project, which they were.
