Ordnance Suggestion

Hello, all, it’s Milk again with another controversial idea most people will probably hate.

Anyways, Personal Ordnance was a neat idea, especially for customs, but it ruined a couple of things when it comes Halo gameplay. Map control, weapon control, and prediction were thrown out of the window when it was realized that anyone and their grandmother could get snipers, overshields, or rockets when they got enough points, and could actually drop them down on their position.

I had this idea that every map would have predetermined “drop points” with tiers of selection, where you could “redeem” whatever points you make.

A few examples -
“Low Tier” drops would be found near bases or would just drop near you like regular ordnance and would consist of pistol or grenade drops. You would say, redeem 50 points to get stickies or a plasma pistol, something of the sort. Either that or an ammo refill. Nothing game changing, just a situation changer or a helpful pick me up.

“Middle Tier” drops would be for mid range equipment/armor enhancers along with weapons and would cost more points and only be in specific spots. I would count guns like the SAW, Railgun, Shotgun, Concussion Rifle, etc. in this tier. They’re certainly powerful but they can’t kill entire groups of people or vehicles and require a bit of skill and planning to use.

“High Tier” drops would be near center or in very visible or highlighted spots and would only drop snipers, heavy weaponry, Overshields, Camo, things of that nature.
And they would take A LOT of points.

When you would get to a drop zone and you had the points, it would give you multiple options, and you’d have to choose. A high-tier heavy weapon zone would give you a choice between Rocket Launcher, Incineration Cannon, Spartan Laser, or a Fuel Rod Gun, for instance. That way, if you saw someone go towards that drop zone, you could safely assume that they would be walking out with a high-powered weapon. It would just be up to the player’s personal choice and/or the current situation.
Every weapon zone would have a timer based on the tier, and each timer would be set to 0 at the beginning of the match. You would still have to rush to get the weapons off of spawn, and there would still be the fact that you’d have to wait to get another one (you can’t have 4 guys saving points and then running around with rockets). But it would give a lot of flexibility, and give players the weapons they want or need without sacrificing the predictability of map control; at least not to the extent that personal ordnance did.

Just a thought.

IF ordinance return (I am doubtful of it returning) it should only drop ONE thing and ONE thing only. AMMO. No power weapon ammo either. Just standard ammo for what ever standard gun you have. If it just so happens that you managed to get full ammo off of your enemy’s dead body then it should give you two grenades.

Otherwise it should NOT return. Period.

I accept that ordnance shouldn’t be a part of the core multiplayer experience, but it should definitely be included in some non-traditional modes.

Maybe ammo. Custom games, yes.

Firefight, Spartan ops, Yes please!

If I had to venture an off-the-wall idea it would be load outs that cost in-game currency for certain game types. The currency is earned (perhaps it goes towards unlocking cosmetic stuff the kids these days like), but credits earned in a given match could be spent upon respawn to upgrade to a more powerful weapon or access to perks etc.

Or tie the calling in of ordnance to either the game type or player preference and have it be time based, power level escalating as the match progresses.

Or each team (winning and losing) are given the option of calling down ordnance to replace the next of one or more power weapon spawns. Team members vote as we now call in ordnance. So if your team is controlling a particular area you can vote for rocket spawns. Or vote for the weapon you want least if you happen to not control an area, etc.

Or… Just NOT have ordnance called in. Its pretty silly what we have now. Its fun for goofing around, but a bizarre take on competitive combat.

ammo or nades seems good.

Though this would be mostly unnecessary if we could but restock grenades off of our opponents we’ve killed without a perk.

Seeing that AAs are (thankfully) leaving I really hope perks will be thrown in the trash with them. Perks were one of the things that caused me to dislike H4 MP very much and its too much like CoD.

How about no Ordnance at all?

My vote.

I don’t really care if it’s there for customs . . . but I’d rather not have PoD in MM at all.

I’m not opposed to a rework of the timers for fixed drops, though, allowing some small amount of randomization of the drop time - but never, ever randomization of what drops.

this is i feel about ordnance NO GOD! PLEASE NO!!! NOOOOOOOOOO - YouTube

Congratulations you just solved one of Halo’s biggest problems… now we just need to get rid of loadouts, sprint, specializations, and those darn perks.

AAs have already been confirmed to be put in the trash so lets hope Spartan Abilities are beneficial to Halo.
