Ordnance Drops: A big what-if

So, Ordnance drops. A lot of mixed opinions about this; Some say it’s bad, promotes bad stuff, some say it’s good, promote’s good stuff, some say it’s money milking the cod fans.

Ignoring all of that ‘From Cod therefore bad’ stuff, I have something I want to talk to you guys about.

So, we know that Ordnance drops are earned in 3 ‘tiers’. And we know that they carry over past death; A good thing, if you notice. The chances of massive killstreaks are higher in fast games like CoD where a lone wolfer with skill can turn the game around quickly. (Trust me, I’ve done that enough.)

However, in Halo, that’s a bit more challenging.(And hopefully not because of betrayers, flying exploded chars and lag) Because you die a bit more. The game runs at a slower pace than those super-fast action games (Both are addicting, but Halo’s general speed was definitely slowed down in Reach) so the amount of deaths you might receive from teamed up enemies and all that are a bit higher.

Ordnance is, in it’s simplest form, prizes for doing well. I don’t see how this is bad; Campers don’t get any due to the slowness, and it encourages people to get better.

But now, on to my main point:
A bigger prize for better players.
What if you could reach Tier 3 of Ordnance…without death?
I’ve been thinking about this. And…well, what better way to introduce the laser designator to matchmaking multiplayer? I mean, first off, War Games is canon, so why they can’t do something like this for training, I don’t know. And next, it would be great! I’m not taking this off of Cod and stuff, but in Cod, the highest killstreak is something like this; A big fat ordnance that is highly coveted, and generally shows ‘skill’.
Good idea, or bad?

Nah. If you can manage getting that many kills without dying I don’t think you really need something huge to help you keep going. It should just keep giving regular drops, I think.

I’m not sure about higher ordnance to the degree of super power weapons like the sniper, but i suppose you could get a higher chance at the better drops.

or a super super super mega Hyrdogen nuke x9000 drops down ends match and team wins L:DD:D::DDDDD

You just said CoD is fast paced and I died a little inside.

Earning bonuses for kills is the most ridiculous and useless gimmick added to Halo since Dual Wielding.

> Nah. If you can manage getting that many kills without dying I don’t think you really need something huge to help you keep going. It should just keep giving regular drops, I think.

I agree.

CoD is fast paced compared to Halo, with almost instant kill times.

Interesting idea but yeah if you’re already murdering people to the extent that you want in order to earn such a powerful weapon as a laser sighted ordinance bombing is good for a competitive game but 343 has put its emphasis on balance and if someone is doing that good then they certainly don’t need the power of an orbiting cruiser to murder things for you on top of that.

No. PODs are not Killstreaks, and do not reward players with power weapons (only slightly-less power weapons and powerups). Doing this (as Default/Matchmaking) would make people very mad, and would only reward good players (makes sense, but doesn’t, just let me get to that in a sec) and make the lesser players leave.

The reason why it’s bad for rewarding good players is because they’re already slaughtering the lesser players. They shouldn’t get something to just slaughter even more. That’s highly unbalanced.

This, however, would be a completely fine option in Customs.

Wouldn’t fast paced mean dying more often rather than less?
