Halo 4 saw the introduction of ordinance. Ordinance had many problems. It carried through deaths, it allowed anyone the chance to dominate with a power weapon they did not have to fight for.
However I do personally feel that, while the implementation was poor, it could be used as a good idea. Here are my thoughts for how Halo 5 should deal with the concept of ordinance.
First of all they should never carry through death. Someone could get Rockets or SAW with distraction medals, and that just isn’t right. Second of all they’re often too easy to get. I find myself earning ordinance over and over in a match. Third of all they’re random. Randomness should not be in Halo.
So what are the solutions? Make it ten kills minimum. (In one life) Also make certain medals not count towards the ordinance. Assists, kills, sprees should all count. Close calls and distractions? Eh, not so much. Also make it consistent. Everything is controlled by a game setting so in customs you can change what will drop from ordinance, including randomizing it for some fiesta fun. In base matchmaking it should be set. What you get in one game will be the same in the next.
Here’s how I would set it up. Kills count for 10 points, sprees, assists, and multikills count for 5. 150 points to call ordinance. Two things are able to be called in. Grenade Resupply, and Ammo Resupply. Grenade Resupply gives you two grenades of what you spawned with. EX: Calling in Grenade Resupply with 1 Frag left over from your spawn will give you 3 frags (With a max ability of 4 grenades) Ammo Resupply gives you two clips of ammo for your spawn weapons. (Two clips of BR/DMR/AR ammo, two clips of Magnum/SMG ammo) If you have no spawn weapon left, then your primary will drop with two clips of ammo.
Hopefully that’s clear enough. If anyone wants clarification, I’d be happy to help. If anyone hates this idea, provide some constructive criticism!
Yes! This idea already came to my mind and I think this is a good way too keep ordnance.
There’s no need to remove it if we can keep it in a ‘non game-breaking’ way.
I would want ordinance to be a powerup like H1-2-3, so when you pick it up you can call for an ordinance drop. That way it should be more like the classic halos where everything could be calculated and the gameplay could be planned with some strategy.
Also, I would really want it to be a weapon like the target locator, so you could decide where you want the ordinance to drop (Would love to kill vehicles with it from the other side of the map xD)
Eh. I would prefer if Ordinance never returned to Multiplayer (I would like it if it was in Firefight/Spartan Ops), but this is something that i would accept.
On the other hand, there was a comment or whatever somewhere, where someone pointed out that this randomness forces you to adapt new to every situation - which in the end is even more challenging.
Sorry, I don’t remember exactly how he argumented, but it was an interesting point of view.
I guess you can compare it with symmetric and asymmetric warfare. Or WW2 vs Afghanistan. Whatever you make out of this comparison…
Having to adapt to something that equally affects both teams is fair game.
Having to adapt to a massive advantage randomly given to the opposition is not.
It’s better than the way it is now, but I still don’t like it.
It would allow people to be cheap.
You don’t know when the opponent is gonna use it, what they’re gonna get, etc.
Unknowns make for bad, exploitive gameplay.
You don’t know what it will be before it’s ordered , so you can’t determine if it’s beneficial to put yourself in a position to grab it or not.
Halo pickups have to be used immediately to avoid cheapness.
Regular weapon pickups mean that you know what the other team is holding (and not storing for later), so A) watch out, and B) kill them to take it.
I like the fact that you’re trying to improve personal ordnance but that is the limit of my praise for this post. I simply don’t like the idea of nerfing ordnance that much, from either a casual or competitive standpoint. If you’re going to go to such lengths to negate its effects you might as well just remove it all together.
What would you say to leaving ordnance as is, but you have to go to a specific part of the map to retrieve it? What if that area can only be used once every 120s?

Power ups, yes.
I can use a power weapon I pick up at any time, or even not at all, if I so choose.

So every 15 kills you get more ammo. There’s no point to include it if it does absolutely nothing.

Giving someone who already got a killing frenzy a better gun or any kind of buff is a poor decision. Halo 4 may have reduced the skill gap to annoyingly small levels, but it is very clear that player is doing well for a reason.
Also it encourages camping, which is a big no in my book right next to suppressed guns. If we were to ever have killstreaks in Halo I admit the options would be pretty freakin insane, but they won’t work in Halo and they only will if Halo completely changes the way it is and guess what, I DON’T WANT HALO TO DO THAT!
I liked personal ordinance and never found it unfair except when the entire enemy team was given sniper rifles and my team got concussion rifles
I think it should be made as an ammo drop rather than power weapon drop
One of the biggest problems with Ordnance aside from the randomness is that the rich got richer. However the poor still had a chance to fight back. This fixes nothing, if anything it worsens the problem
