Often, checkpoints are useful. They allow us to retry our progress partway through a mission. But there are some cases where a checkpoint is in a bad spot. I know there is a safeguard where a checkpoint will be automatically erased if you repeatedly die over and over, but I think that isn’t enough. An option to manually erase the progress up to your last checkpoint would be handy, and this need is only exacerbated by the lack of a “restart mission” option in Halo Infinite. Speaking of Infinite, I have a gameplay story that strengthened my stance when it occurred. (SPOILER WARNING)
I once got VERY stuck in the Advanced Training section of the Tower of Reckoning simply because a checkpoint partway through severely limited my strategies when I went in blind. When I left the game for the night and retried the next morning, being returned to the start of Advanced Training allowed me to re-survey my options, and I was able to get past with an improved strategy.
