There’s a lot of things I like about the Beta, but there’s a few things I wish were different or better. I understand why 343 has taken the direction they have for the most part.
So far the biggest thing for me that I would like to see changed or improved is several of the sound decisions. Mostly the constant Spartan chatter. I get that some of the things the Spartans are saying are very useful (like when power weapons are incoming), but I feel like about half of the things they say are just additional noise that doesn’t really add anything.
I don’t really need to hear “picked up DMR” or “Nice headshot.” I’m sorry. I get that for some people who are tired of not ever hearing anyone talk, this might fill a bit of a void. But what about those of us who usually game with friends? Having additional talking is once again, just needless noise in my opinion. I would just be nice to have the option to mute it or maybe have a “less chatty” option where they only call out when power weapons spawn?
Having more options is repeated theme in my threads because I feel like many of the issues the community is arguing about could just be fixed by having simple options to disable features.
Another couple of issues with the sound are the headshot “pop”. Again, I can understand why some people like it, for me it just ruins a bit more of the immersion. Not too big of a deal. Not a huge fan of the new tone of the announcer either . . . I don’t know it just sounds too . . .sarcastic? I’m trying to think of the right word for it . . . At any rate, I think most people know what I’m talking about. And then for gods sake all the medals! Please, please give us the option to just not get notifications about those. Once again, too many, they’re constantly popping up and it ruins more of the immersion.
Other than those few things, keep up the good work 343. Graphically the game looks amazing in my opinion. And I’m excited to see the campaign. I’m also very interested to see what is done with forge and custom games.
I get that the game needs to evolve to attract new players. But I think it would be very wise to also give more old school players the options to make the game play more old school. That is a bigger subject though, and I’ll go into that in another thread.
Oh yeah, one last thing, that end game “swagger” is absolutely ridiculous and ruins even more of the immersion for me. I just have a hard time imagining hardened Spartan warriors doing that.
Hmmm that got really long . . . I’m interested if people will actually read all of it. Of course would also love to hear people opinions (remember lets all not take our frustration with 343 out on each other.) But feel free to just post “read it” or “TLDR” as well.
