Option to disable aim acceleration

I want an option. I stopped playing half a year ago primarily because it is forced upon you.

I’ve played shooters for over 20 years on console and PC, and this is by far the worst for control. Aim acceleration doesn’t work on a controller, and I will never be able to play Halo 5 unless it can be completely disabled. All I want is to aim like classic Halo with less aim-assist. I shouldn’t have to get used to a mechanic that causes more grief than is helpful.

EDIT: Please don’t say nasty things that might get the thread locked. It would be nice if 343 saw this.

I 100 % agree with this. h5 aiming is terrible

I have no idea who even came up with this bright idea of ever messing with what was never an issue from previous Halo games… Oh wait 343i!! They like to -Yoink- stuff up!

Zippy.

It’s the only shooter I’ve played where I simply can’t aim, even with my elite controller. I feel like an idiot trying to correct over 2 decades of experience.

yes, please

It is the one most frustrating things playing H5. The aiming needs to go back the way it was. I have a hard time to believe that the pros even like it!

It makes me :frowning:

If you watch their streams and look at their settings must are playing at default Sen and 1 or 2 aim accel. Noticing this may not seem that big a deal but when you compare that to what so of these guys used to play on in other titles there is a crazy difference. Definitely not a smart move on 343 to once again fix something that was never broken.

There is though… It doesn’t turn it off but it does make it so low that it’s effectively off.

Same, the further customization on the Elite helps a little, but nothing can fix the aim. I was so sure and comfortable with 4 sens and 2 acc, but all of a sudden, the aim starts feeling unnatural again. I’ve changed my sens in this game more times than any other Halo game combined…

Check out this blog post from back in December, they added a bunch of options for adjusting settings and noted what was used in the Halo 5 beta: https://www.halowaypoint.com/en-us/news/halo-5-advanced-controller-settings
There were then a few more changes made in the Memories of Reach update, noted here by David Pashute (Sandbox Team): https://www.halowaypoint.com/en-us/news/control-freak

Still though, there was nothing wrong in any previous game before. Why mess with something that wasn’t a problem ya know. But it is what it is I guess.

Between being able to adjust the aim acceleration and look sensitivity, along with the thumb-stick customization options for the elite, shouldn’t you be able to tweak everything until you find something you are comfortable with? It just seems like there are way too many options for customizing (both in game settings and controller settings) how your thumb-sticks react to just say I can’t do it.

I thought they changed it because of feedback from Pro Players? Like the Radar.

There’s been a theory floating around the forum that the aim mechanic is tied to the dedi servers, so if you’re in laggy game the aiming is going to feel worse than normal

that being said the mechanic itself is the problem and no matter how many tweaks or options they give us to fine tune it, it will never feel the same as the older halo aiming because it’s not the old halo aiming it’s a new mechanic entirely

they need to ditch this mechanic and go back to the H5 beta aim

when Eric Hewitt said that aiming at a distance felt wonky in the beta I don’t understand what he meant because the aiming in the beta was silky smooth to me
the “pro-team” designed this aim mechanic and had months and months to get used to it before the game launched

I myself simply can not adjust to it my aim always feels off and my shots are never on point
constantly I will hit the first 3 or 4 shots and then can never land the headshot because I feel
like I’m fighting the aim
i never feel confident going into any situation or gun battle because of this

The whole “pro team” is nothing more than a marketing deal for 343. It helps capture the hardcore players because most of them care what to pros think. The pro team for one do not play an any tournaments that I have been aware of, and for 2 are paid by 343 so in turn they will have to agree on what is being done rather they truly feel it’s good or not. I remember seeing a statement from 343 saying the pro team had alot.of input on map design in this game, funny how every active pro still streaming has nothing good to say about any of the maps other than truth and colloseum. Then to think halo was dropped from.almost every pro circuit for a while and still isn’t back in mlg. Now you have this HCS crap that now simulates the competitive said of what halo use to be but it’s nothing like how it was.

I’ve tried many settings and it doesn’t seem to help. The problem for me is that aim acceleration is on at all times. Even at its lowest setting it always seems to get in the way, no matter how long I spend trying to master it. Being able to disable it entirely would be preferable.

Smoothing and acceleration can work on K&M, but I don’t think it is waranted on controller.

I was fighting the aim accelerator for a long time myself. I finally found a setting where it feels like it helps rather than hurts. I think if you keep playing with combinations of settings you will eventually find what works for you.

That’s very possible, and I get your point but I know my problem can be mitigated by having the option. Even after completing the campaign on Legendary and dipping out of MP I was eternally fighting the controls.

You can do that already. Check the first blog post I linked, 343 listed out the settings that give you what was set in the beta. You can further adjust using the updates they made later on.

They guys on the pro-team, while they may not compete any more, are pros that used to compete competatively in Halo tournaments. They have since moved on and taken positions within 343 to help with the game. I don’t know about anyone else, but to go from playing Halo to being part of the dev process is pretty cool. Check out The Sprint if you haven’t already, they’re alays in playtesting and providing feedback. Just becuase they work for 343 now doesn’t mean they’re automatically going to agree on everything.
