March Updates

Okay, so I am pretty disappointed with these new updates that have been implemented. In my, and many others opinions, these changes were not needed. Essentially everybody who plays to win and get better do not like what is being added/removed to this game. We believe that there are far more important updates needed to bring this game to a higher level than where it already is. The competitive community plays the game to get better and to win. This type of player wants the game to be played at a high level so that they can improve and have fun at the same time. On the other hand, typically, the casual player just plays because they want to. To this type of player, the settings do not matter that much. The casuals will play no matter what. Unlike the casuals, the competitive player simply cannot stand playing a game that has ‘flaws’.

The updates that were just implemented do not sit well with most of the competitive players. Some playlists that people want brought back, arena, have not been looked at. I know that there has been the Title Update implemented, but it simply is not enough to fix the playlist. I hope that the only ranked playlist gets looked at so that a large population will once again play. The updates needed so that arena is once again inhabited by more than 50 people at a time are: Jetpack removal, better map selection (no reflection, uncaged, sworbase), and possibly no bloom. There have been threads about all of these topics so I won’t get into them.

Another playlist that was affected that should not have been was Squad Slayer. This was also considered one of the more competitive playlists. The reason why it was competitive was because of the party restrictions. This allowed players to consistently match other teams who tried to win and match good players. Since it is removed, the tryhards now only have one playlist that will give any sort of competition. This playlist had an overall good map selection and gametypes.
Infection, Griffball and Hotshot did not need to be updated. No offense, but hotshot was a dumb idea. You didn’t need to update something like that, or those other playlists for that matter. Focus on the base of the game before looking outwards onto those niche playlists please.

Anniversary Squad was also a playlist that the competitive players liked to play. Is there a good reason as to why it was removed? I did not play that many games in anniversary but I know that it was a good change that was added to Halo Reach.
I am still trying to understand why Team Objective was updated to 5v5. The playlist worked perfectly with the amount of people already. From previous 5v5 playlists, I assume that there will now be party restrictions. Team Objective already has a low population, having longer search times will cause less and less people to even play that playlist. To me, and many others, Halo is a 4v4 game. There should always be a 4v4 Slayer and a 4v4 Objective playlist. On to Super Slayer. The name sounds like it is meant for 12 year olds or die hard Dragon ball Z fans. I personally think that the new playlist was not needed. As you mentioned in the broadcast, many people play just to play and many like the Title Update. The voting process was very flawed in the Team Slayer playlist. It always seemed like the ‘bad’ maps and gametypes were offered on the TU option. TU Elite Slayer on Eden Minor. YES PLEASE!!! I could not bring myself to vote for that even though it was the TU. There needed to be a way so that it was fair for both options.

Bleedthrough isn’t that big of an issue with me but I know many people who were in favor of it. It worked fine the way it was. I may have been confused how I got killed when I didn’t think I should have but it didn’t change the core game.

I hope that this is not foreshadowing what Halo 4 will be like. Every player wants a game that is fun to play. Competitive players want a game that can also be played at a high level throughout the game. Please listen to the minority, competitive players, about how the game should be played instead of asking the forum who bows down to your will. If possible, get good players to help design and update your game so that it will play well and won’t need pointless updates.

Thanks for reading, Flavour

better hurry and comment before they lock this one too!

Why would you remove bleedthrough?! I never post here and I see now that its a mistake. This update is what happens when you leave Halo in the hands of the 12 year olds who frequent this site.

Why do you think people voted for TU?! It was for bleedthrough!! There was nothing significantly different besides bleedthrough. Why would you talk about those votes so much and then completely change and remove the exact thing that was being voted for?!

Bleedthrough removal was unnecessary and limited.
All they had to do was lower melee damage down to 75%.
Instead, they -Yoinked!- it up and went back to garbage shield poping.

Agree in all regards.

Squad Slayer was probably my favorite playlist. Anniversary Squad was fun as well.

This whole situation is really turning me off to Halo 4, especially considering there’s been no information about it anyway besides the Chief’s magically transforming armor. Continuity between direct sequels always bugs the hell out of me.

Again, please take your discussions to the feedback threads in MM. The links to each specific aspect of the March update can be found here. Thanks.
