Opinions on the new generation of spartans

What do you think about the direction 343 is taking the new generation of Spartans? I believe they’re still SIVs, but a new class with new updated armour. I honestly didn’t mind the SIVs, I just disliked how cocky and outlandish they were (In a bad way). I do love the new direction they’re taking them, making them more grounded and tough like an SIII.

You have to remember they were marines and ODST’s before joining so it would be natural for more than a few of those who made the transition to retain some of their old ways. That being said, I don’t think it’s quite fair to lump all the S-IV’s into the same category of being cocky and outlandish. Not everyone is the same.

it is confirmed that the Spartans in infinite are Spartan-IVs.

Really, the only Spartan-IVs we’ve seen that are cocky or outlandish are Palmer, DeMarco, and Madsen. that is only 3 out of more than 500 Spartans. Most of the Spartan-IVs we’ve seen are more akin to Spartan Davis, Thorne, Ray, or even the NPC Spartans from Halo 4, being actually pretty level headed, respectful, and duty oriented. However, since they weren’t indoctrinated like the previous Spartans, they are still very human and are prone to normal human emotions. It doesn’t make any sense when people label all Spartan IVs as cocky and so on based off of only 3 members, especially when the Spartan IVs that we play as in Spartan Ops (Fireteam Crimson) are blank slate characters and don’t say or do anything that would be remotely considered cocky.
Ironically, Spartans like: Emile-A239 (disrespectful towards civilians, team members) and Jonah-B283 (cocky) of the Spartan-IIIs as well as Jai-006 (dismissive of civilians in peril) and Adriana-111 (disrespectful of chain of command) of the Spartan-IIs show prominent negative personality traits, but we don’t associate the entirety of the Spartan-II or III programs with only these handful of character’s personalities.

to be fair, the Spartan-IVs have always been tough and grounded. only this time the visuals of their armor finally reflects this and is inline with the designs of the past, unlike most of halo 4-5’s designs

Brainwashed teenage recruits? How does spewing out mindless one-liners like “Over yonder!”, “To win!”, or “To be a Spartan!” make these guys so cool? Contrary to popular belief, there actually are intelligent people in all ranks of all service branches.

Let’s not forget the obvious lack of training. In that new trailer, the first Spartan out of the drop pod looked at a brute then looked at the girl, nodded, and then turned his back to shield her. He’d be dead. Then, while not maintaining 360-degree security after the engagement, the Spartans all forgot she was even there until she peeked back up out of the rubble. Then, the Spartan took his hand off of the trigger well with his non-firing hand to reach out to her. Then, they aimlessly walked out through the city with no concept of a movement formation or order of march. NO GO on that patrol.

Appearence: They have no muscle definition showing on their skin-tight undersuits. Their physical training is lacking. They are limited to thicc dad bods, medium dad bods, and skinny dad bods. Sadly, they didn’t recruit females, at least not in the July tech preview.

My children could beat these punks with nerf guns and potato guns.

I mean only with constructive intentions. There are still almost three months to fix all of this.

From what I’ve seen, I hope they improve the appearance.

Seriously, it seems they need to be more athletic/built looking, as the previous games.

I have always liked the Spartan IVs, they are a lot more “human” so I expect them to sometimes make mistakes, at the same time I like Spartans like Thorne and Buck who are held to a high standard.

Well Spartan- IIs were built to have almost no emotions, why do you think th Chief’s the strong but deadly type?

As a person who served, the intelligent people are about 1 out of 4 lol.

What’s a sim? Only sim I know of is the game and Spartan 2s and 3s are the Spartans which live up to the name even there stoic approach to everything is very Spartan like. That infamous Laconic wit.

With the Spartan IVs they have tried to humanise them in some ways which hasn’t gone down well because we are used to chief and blue team and other Spartan 2s and 3s

For one, its a cinematic - Yea he acknowledged her, but the Spartan defended her then closed the distance to avoid the possibility of the Brute from firing at the civilian again. And how do you know they forgot about her? Might’ve assumed she’d just ran away.

Senseless nitpicking and dad bods? Really? The Spartans are closest in body suit/design to the Halo Reach bods, and Spartand have never had ‘massive muscle def’ and their body gloves clearly have textured layers, unlike the skin tight IV gen 2 techsuits.

Should they add more body types? 100%.

All I see here is incessant and childish complaints.

Yeah because lore wise the spartan II and III programs have been shut down after Halsey, so I guess they are recruiting ODSTs/Marines so makes sense that their bodies wouldn’t look bulked up as such since they haven’t undergone and augmentations.

Would be cool though if they added the option to change your Spartan body type. Wouldn’t mind rocking that dad bod under my Mjolinor.

I would probably have attacked someone too if they had criticized Halo CE’s campaign backtracking when I was 12 too.

I don’t know how exactly you’re trying to appear, but its not working.

Tough, yes.
Grounded, questionable.

If I recall correctly from The Ghosts of Onyx, the IIIs needed to be regularly medicated to stop them going insane. A side effect from the hastier augmentation process.

Personally, after the II and III programs, the IVs are just so bland to me from a narrative perspective. The IIs were abducted children trained specifically to become the greatest soldiers humanity could make and there was a lot of moral ambiguity to them that was complex and interesting. Same thing with the IIIs beings orphans of the human-covenant war and the military exploiting the death of their families to make a whole other generation of Spartans. Not to mention, how much they chemically messed with their minds in the process.

Then you got the IVs, who were originally only meant to be a literary device to show that the universe had moved on without Chief. And they’re just soldiers who got an upgrade. There’s nothing complex or controversial about them, they’re just another branch of the military now and that makes them far less interesting to me than learning about the ones who came before.

did some damage!!
"OHH so satisfying"

yea you can call me a much bigger fan of the spartan 2s

Maybe that’s what they’re going for?

the key word there is “almost”. the point I was trying to make was that we associate the IIs and IIIs with being stoic and professional despite a handful of them having personalities that are quite the opposite of this. we don’t associate the IIs/IIIs with the negative traits of these spartans because it is only about 4 spartans like this. meanwhile fans associate the IVs with being cocky and unprofessional based off of only 3 spartans despite most of the IVs being very professional and grounded.

> so I guess they are recruiting ODSTs/Marines so makes sense that their bodies wouldn’t look bulked up as such since they haven’t undergone and augmentations.

the Spartan IVs have received extensive augmentations, not quite to the same level as the IIs, but extremely extensive nonetheless. they wouldn’t be able to wear or even operate their MJOLNIR armor without being augmented

Honestly I do really like them and I enjoy the return to form with the armor as well

Fat Chief?. The spartan 2 and 3s were done at a very young age. The spartan 4s were done as adults mostly that’s why the 2 and 3s were much bigger. Sure I read that somewhere Spartan 2s augmentations were the most brutal. The spartan 3s were chemically induced. Performance wise the spartan 2 and 3s were on par in most cases. but the 4s fell short in that area.
