Opinions on Locke

I want to know what people’s opinions on Locke are. I’ve wondered for a while now if people hated him, were indifferent, or actually liked him.

I like him.

he seems ok.

I didn’t like him in Halo Nightfall but I am starting to like him more from the H5 scenes/ gameplay. He better not replace Chief, though.

I like him mainly because unlike other characters that shoot first and ask questions later Locke is the character that questions his loyalty and knows why he is shooting. He has strong morals and great leadership qualities as demonstrated in Nightfall and in all the stuff we’ve seen so far.

Pretty much same with me. I can see why ONI would pick him to send after Chief

I look forward to the first meeting of chief and locke in game. 343 are good character developers and they proved it with locke.

Locke seems awesome to me! I am already loving his relationship with Buck, just from the opening scene!!

I like Locke. I actually decided to re-watch Nightfall a bit last night to observe and analyze the character a bit more.

Not sure if many others noticed, but in Halo 5, Locke appears to be a lot more serious and stern than in Nightfall, which I bet is directly related to his team’s disloyalty and despicable behavior on their trip to the Alpha shard. He’s trying to establish himself as a stronger presence and a firm leader to Osiris so he doesn’t have to re-live that mutinous nightmare on the shard.

This brings us to an interesting dynamic with how he relates to John. With Locke, we see a character who started off human, but is becoming more machine (from an emotional standpoint, dealing with trauma) and with John we see a character who started off as a machine, but is becoming more human dealing with trauma.

I really like him. He seems really respectable in terms of personal values and seems to be a strong leader. I also really love the design of his armour. <3

I hadn’t noticed that. That’s actually quite interesting. It’s a good way to parallel the nature of the two characters. I also noticed how Chief’s other adversary – the Didact – is literally becoming more machine since he was composed and lost his biological form in Halo: Escalation.

i like him. his voice is -Yoink!-. i think he is a great compliment to chief

Honestly, people need to stop saying that Chief will be replaced. There’s no such thing as “replacing” a soldier. He could be killed, but Locke wouldn’t just be forced to do everything Chief would do.

I’d like Locke to become a kind of tragic character with terrible luck (opposite of chief) & eventually turn into an antagonist and just has the worst luck possible. Make him an anti-villain, i guess. It does seem like Locke is meant to be a foil for the chief.

Kind of like where they started to go with the arbiter but instead of him eventually changing his mind and becoming better for it, Locke will just keep going down the dark path.

I think they should give us hope for Locke and then just crush the hopes time after time and in a future game, kill him in just the most shocking, heartbreaking & tragic way. Of course this only works if they can manage to make Locke likeable in the first place.

I kind of doubt they’ll do that but to me, it seems like the tragic antagonist path is the only way to make him an interesting character and not just a “meh” character that’s shoe-horned in because 343 just wanted to shake things up.

He seems cool but im holding my full opinion until the game comes out.

From what I can tell, I think Locke is going to be a good character, but I will wait until Halo 5 releases to make a complete decision.

I think he’s cool…Ok, he is a total badass.

In the words of Cortana, “They don’t care about you, they replaced you!”

I like him (well, ok, I like more his armor design than him)

I hope he gets some good character development in Halo 5, from a guy who follows blindly orders to a guy who can actually think by himself.

I think he has a strong moral compass and tries to do right whenever he can, even if it isn’t convenient like when he spared the lives of the element miners on the Alpha Shard. He appears to respect the Chief, essentially saying as much to Buck when he says, “You are not the only one who is here because of him.” Add to the fact he seems to be getting as clear of a picture of who Chief is to properly go after him further shows he respects him. I guess one could point to the All Hail the Conquering Hero trailer him disrespecting Chief, but it comes more from a place of disappointment and anger. Chief has been built up as a legendary savior to humanity and now Locke has to take him down to save humanity. Locke sure didn’t sound pleased to do it.

So I’ve found no legitimate reason to despise Locke and I respect him as a character.

Wasn’t impressed by Nightfall. He never really led his team, never seemed to take charge of the situation. His teammates started acting irrationally, panicking. Killing each other for the second seat.
He just seemed like a “captain hindsight”. He would voice his opinions, but that was about it. I didn’t see a Spartan in him. He just survived.

Hope he wins me over in H5. Otherwise, it will feel like playing as the Arbiter in H2. I couldn’t stand it.
