So I have started to create a machinima series these past few months on YouTube and with me being a one-man team (aside from the body acting and the voice acting), the parts/episodes are uploaded every month (more or less) and I feel that this is not good enough to keep the people who have subscribed sated. I feel as though more could be done and so I came to the conclusion that maybe I should create mini-episodes; nothing serious, not long, and not connecting to the main series or mini-series in any way. But then I thought that if I did do this and create these mini-episodes the viewers wouldn’t be able to take the characters seriously again when they appeared in the next part/episode.
To those who take the time to read this I ask that you view the couple of videos I have created on my YouTube Channel and tell me your honest opinion about mini-episodes. Do you think that they can destroy characters if done wrong? Should characters stay in character when doing something that isn’t part of any series?
I think it would be good, check out FWSX or ThaGreatIsaiah on YouTube they do episodic and shorts Halo Machinima to see how they balance both.
I think it depends on which game you make a machinima in because halo 5 has more filters and area affects hence it would be easier to do a film in halo 5.
Watched all the shorts, can honestly out of all the H5 Machinima’s, you and your team have done a lot better job of convincing me into the world you made. Although, I feel audio editing should be a bit clearer(if you can edit this) and maybe add a filter or edit for some of the environments for the scenes you have, almost a dampened but warm feeling from like forests.
Or being “grittier” would probably do, for the theme really of what you have. I’m still practicing my editing but I do enjoy the different sounds you have in the videos like the quiet but noticeable rains drops and distant gun fire. Which btw people seem to just download really old sounds for to use as “gun fire” and its awkward, but it sounds echoed but with a bass that carries like gun fire should. So 7/10 for what have seen so far, I hope I can see more and can’t wait for 2018, I would look around though for sure for extra tips and other opportunities!
Making shorts is never a bad idea. Its easier on everyone, especially if the production crew is a one-man-show like you said it is.
The above-stated directors have it down to an art.
