opinions of a veteran player

honestly i had extremely low expectations of this game from some of the gameplay vids i’d watched with climbing up walls, calling out power weapons locations and times, ground bound, shoulder bash.

after playing AR + BR starts and breakout i’m very impressed but there are some minor things that the game would benefit from changing

sprinting: is sprinting here to stay in shooters? probably however i think they have got it just right in halo 5. sprinting is used for mobility and not for combat it has to be used sparingly because it takes a long time to be able to shoot after sprinting. It also cant be used as a getaway mechanic because you got outskilled. Perfectly balanced sprint mechanic IMO

Precision weapon fighting: for me halo’s enjoyment as a shooter comes from the skill of using BR’s ect. I wasn’t having much fun on the AR starts because its just spray and pray for the most part with little margin for being able to outplay someone. I do think it has its place in halo though and playlist should be available for both playstyles but the longevity of the halo titles has always been team BRs.

aiming is very difficult now and its great and rewarding particularly in BR starts people miss a lot so you can really come back and get that buzz of dominating someone

"new abilities": this includes ground pound, shoulder bash, boost, hover, climbing. i think GP + SB are largely useless, someone SB me once on breakout and that’s it and ive used GP on an AFK playing in a match but would never use it in a proper game. so for me i have no issue with these mechanics. Climbing i think is a nice feature it feels fluid and doesn’t affect the gameplay too much.

again boost and hover i think play well and aren’t game breaking but i can see how some people wouldn’t like them. For me i don’t mind boost because it has a skill element, it doesn’t give an advantage in combat because you cant shoot for a while after using it. It can be used to get round a corner or to give your teammate half a second to help you out.

general: grenades damage is fine (reach nukes). no loadouts and game breaking abilities, thank god(prom vision). respawn timers and power weapons on map leading to map control, fundamental of halo and should never of been taken out

ranks: i like the new ranking system but i think 7 tiers isn’t enough to separate people the 1-50 works, maybe both can be integrated together. In the final game there needs to be social playlists! not everyone wants to be competitive all the time sometimes you want to have a mess about with no consequences of losing rank. Also dont do a halo 4 where you can back out of a ranked game when you see your opponents this makes the whole thing pointless when you can pick and choose opponents.

things that need to be changed:
the damn music when you die!
icons above teammates heads so you can clearly see who it is
text when killing enemies and weapon pickups is far too small
lighting on some of the maps is too dark noone likes playing on dark depressing maps
i think AR needs either damage decrease or more inaccurate at mid range
ease up on the medals, medals should be for achievement getting a headshot isn’t one
bumper jumper: for me i prefer this layout but in halo 5 sprint is on A which makes it hard to play i think crouch should be on A and sprint on the left click

so overall good job i’m impressed, it feels like halo again but halo 3 is still the best multiplayer game ever made :stuck_out_tongue: what do you think?

I agree with pretty much everything you said dude. Except that Halo 3 is the best multiplayer game ever made  That honour goes to Halo 2. Also like ur idea for the A to crouch on bumper jumper.

I agree with your assessment

I enjoy halo 5 more than halo 4 already, and there is really no choice

add social matchmaking
custom games lobby-find a game or map to your liking
nerf the AR in mid rage shootouts…
also, maybe we should really get a custom button layout, where you assign controls to your liking

I agree 99 %. Except your argument regarding bj. Having sprint on A was the main reason, why I changed from default to bj in h4.

i used to say halo 2 was the best game for years but it was rose tinted glasses i think.

I can agree on most things you are saying, but can you elaborate on the part about the music? Is it bad, annoying?

If you haven’t heard it listen out when you die. I can’t work it out though sometimes it doesn’t play other times it does. Its incredibly annoying

i find it affects my ability to aim with the left stick if i keep having to switch to pressing A to sprint

It feels nothing like halo. Kill times are stupid. Smarts cope ruins the game. FYI it’s because the gun blocks your damn view. Sprint is irritating , skill jumps are gone. Telling everyone where power weapons are is stupid. FYI I’ve been playing since halo 1 on pc. So I played the multiplayer online alot.

I agree with you on everything but the bumper jumper part, I play recon and run with X and so far I like it a lot, as I can easily press x and if i need to stop running i press X again but can continue moving.

also, I’d like you to make a few of the suggestions you listed here as well as any others you might have here:
https://www.halowaypoint.com/en-us/forums/6e35355aecdf4fd0acdaee3cc4156fd4/topics/halo-5-guardians-mp-beta-feedback—forums/5b69845f-90ed-45ae-bc11-239c79af7eda/postsI will transmit any suggestions to 343i, with your name of course

Agree with your opinions on this one - I can’t find much fault with the beta so far.

From one Halo Veteran to another its nice to hear some positive views, there’s too much negativity from a lot of people but if they aint happy I can’t blame em - I was the same when the reach beta dropped, hated it and was very vocal about my dislike.

Ground pound and Charge are useful but pretty situational. I’m fine with them being in the game. Agree with everything else though.
