Ordinance complaint: “Blah blah blah call of duty blah blah blah map control”
Really? Just like Call of Duty? You know, calling those attack dogs, helicopters, AC130’s, and drone strikes all of which instantly kill you moving autonomously throughout the map? Not even close. No matter the load out system or ordinance system, Halo is nothing like Call of Duty. Why?
Because there are big futuristic Spartan soldiers bouncing around floaty jumping in outer space with energy shields, vehicles, flying out of grav lifts, portals, fighting aliens, and requires 5 headshots to kill someone multiplayer. Gameplay couldn’t be farther from COD.
“Map control”. Map control means my -Yoink- team getting pwned by a bunch of mouth breathers who are “controlling” all the power weapons (sniper/rockets/laser etc) while my noobs get pwned. I understand this is important to some people who play competitively, but I like the dynamic nature of the ordinance.
My team is getting hammered, but I’m doing well, Oh well look at that I got an ordinance! Its a sniper! I can finally fight back! How unbalanced!
And with power weapons littering the maps, everyone starting with the DMR/BR/Light Rifle death machines, vehicles everywhere, is it really so unbalanced? It doesn’t even give you good stuff every time.
I’m sure all the MLG playlists that come out wont have it, you can turn it off if you want. I think it makes the game more dynamic, and prevents one team from “controlling the weapons” AKA establishing brief dominance over noobs then raping them for the next 15 minutes.
Most of us don’t have cliques of people to play competitively with, usually its me and my buddy being assigned random people who more often then not, suck.
Respawn complaint: “Respawns are not X seconds when I want them to be”
Do respawns need some work in general? Yep. Has the game been out for months? No. Are people probably hard at work on a patch coinciding with the December DLC? Most likely. Has any FPS ever had perfect respawns? Probably not.
I like instant respawn for slayer gametypes, especially big team battle. People say it encourages “Call of Duty like playing”, which I guess means blindly running and spraying. Which they are more then welcome to do (they dont get far). I don’t think respawns being a certain time will encourage people to suck less.
Yea its frustrating to have people spawn right next to you after you killed someone, but thats happened to me in every Halo and most online FPS’s in general. Its called **** happens. I have had the unfortunate incident of killing someone only to have them spawn with their friend by me, but out of the 24+ hours I’ve probably played war games thats probably happened to me maybe a dozen or so times. Hardly enough to be considered “awful” or “game ruining”.
BR vs DMR Complaint: “The DMR is overpowered”
The DMR is obviously most peoples weapon of choice for its familiarity from Reach, and its lack of reticule bloom now. I saw another thread of people analyzing the miliseconds it took each gun to kill someone, and I think if your measuring in the miliseconds, its pretty safe to say its balanced. It all depends on the person using each gun. Every gun in the game is powerful and can kill someone quickly. I have used the DMR extensively, and when I run out of bullets I pick up other kids BR/Light Rifle, and I can’t say I seriously see a difference in any of them outside of design/sound. BR might have an edge on closer quarters and DMR might have an edge on farther away, but it is so minor it completely comes down to the players themselves not their guns. I kill people who have DMR’s with the pistol all the time, and every other weapon in the game. Every weapon seems powerful in this game, which brings me to the next complaint
Loadout complaint: “Loadouts ruin this game this isn’t Halo”.
So if everyone was forced to start with a BR and a pistol you’d be happy? Its not like people start with sniper or rockets. The load outs offer unique play style options that didn’t exist in previous Halo’s and I think they work together quite well and offer a lot of variety.
It is bizarre to me that after 10 years of Halo, people would be so abstractly pissed about this. I love the load outs, because I get to start with EXACTLY WHAT I WANT and I don’t have to rely on stupid matchmaking gametypes to dictate to me whether I start with an AR, a BR, a DMR, a Light Rifle, a Pistol, a plasma pistol, a grenade. All of that matchmaking gambling with loadouts was really annoying.
And I can set my Big Team Slayer load out, and have a Capture the Flag load out, as well as other gametypes. It just makes it a lot more fun to customize a spartan for a gametype.
Campaign complaint: “Its too short. Its too linear”.
Personally, I think there are some pretty wide open spaces in campaign and in Spartan Ops you can approach anyway you want, and its not and has never been a sandbox game.
Its relatively short but it didn’t over stay its welcome. It took me about as long to beat Reach, and I thought it was over all the best campaign yet. I rather have it be 6-7 hours and be good then 10 hours of endless repetitive corridors.
Spartan Ops Complaint: “Why isn’t there firefight!?!?!?”
Dude. **** firefight. It sucked, it was a good idea, never really took off. Spartan Ops is episodic content that continues a multiplayer campaign that takes place 6 months after the “too short too linear” main campaign ends. It has bad -Yoink- CGI, challenges, and is like a weekly TV show. Its glorious. My only fear is that season 2 will not begin soon enough after Season 1 ends.
Join in progress complaint: “Joining in progress ruins my game.”
Well, I can’t argue that. Sometimes, I join games and my team is getting the shaft right at the end. Usually, I join in progress right in the beginning and the score is relatively close.
But here is why the pro’s outweigh the cons, in Halo 4, I have never had my entire team quit and ruin a single match making game. In every Halo, you have those kids who can’t take the first couple minutes of their *** kicking and quit on you. Ruining the game for everyone. I absolutely love the fact people join in progress and my team usually ends the game with better kids then we started with (by process of weeding out the pansies).
Also, when I go on and see my buddies in Big Team, its cool to be “queued to join” their game, so if space frees up I can instantly jump in the game with my friends.
It is also cool the other way around to be playing a game, and have your friends randomly appear on your team or the other team.
There is no hard ranking system anyway, and from what I understand when its implemented will only be viewable on waypoint, so your win loss ratio in matchmaking is kind of irrelevant.
I am concerned about how join in progress will affect rank, if it does at all, but I think the pro’s of join in progress far out weigh the cons.
If anyone actually read all that, I salute you.
