Opinion: Vehicle Damage Received is Excessive

Although some people may not agree with my personal opinion on this. Halo 4 is dominated by precision weapons, especially in Big Team Battle.

It doesn’t matter whether or not the enemy team is an organized group of friends or a random bunch of people paired together, people easily focus down vehicles and kill the driver. I feel that the damage on a banshee, ghost, warthog, and even mantis is extremely high.

Despite a vehicle operator’s ability to kill off the opposition with ease, the vehicle can just as easily die by the people who fire upon the vehicle. With the addition of ordinance dropping in every minute and the ability to equip a plasma pistol as a load out, vehicles are easily disposed of. But when you add the shear power of the precision weapons these vehicles get massacred.

I find it rediculous that people on a large scale map often ignore the vehicle altogether and use precision weapons because they are the better path to go.

Vehicles are merely short 1 or 2 killing machines and then are disposed of from massive damage. With the acception of the mantis all the vehicles lack any suppression capabilities because they die too fast. Ordinance and plasma pistol are abundant as it is in the game that people should have incentive to use them to dispose of vehicles.

Mantis is the only real suppression machine and completely wrecks other vehicles. However, it lacks any stopping power at mid to long range (mantis range). This means at long range the enemy team can use precision weapons and they can quickly “Gank” (surround and trap the mantis).

Light vehicles could be even more durable because the driver is exposed and easily removed from the mix.

I personally believe they should increase the damage vehicles can receive if only by slightly to give them a more worthwhile use. This won’t make them Over Powered because there is several ways to destroy them. ie: plasma pistol or plasma grenades

On a side note: Because plasma grenades are available on load out they to are also able to take out vehicles with ease.

I want to know what you guys feel about the vehicle durability in this game. I would appreciate this with a grain of salt and don’t start a rant over a simple opinion such as this. I just need to express my thoughts

I feel the same way hence why I chose to go operator rather than wetwork when I hit 50 to see if that helps any. As it is now every time I see a ghost or banshee available im hesitant to even get in it because they die so fast. Now this could very well be just me being rusty but I dont recall it ever being so difficult to survive in vehicles as it is right now. Hopefully the operator spec will fix this issue for me thought but since im not 60 yet Ill have to wait and see.

I agree. Vehicles have been in need of a serious buff since Halo:Reach. Not only did Bungie nerf all the vehicles by making them more difficult to drive AND making it easier to shoot the occupants out of their seats, but they also gave the DMR and Sniper Rifle armor-piercing capabilities so they can destroy vehicles with ease.

Add to that 343i has added personal ordnance and allowed players to spawn with Plasma Pistols and Plasma Grenades, WITHOUT buffing the vehicles in the slightest to compensate. Heck, anti-vehicle weapons like the Spartan Laser have become almost redundant as a result.

There would be no problem if 343i returned vehicles to their Halo 3 status; in that game, vehicle handling was better, and the occupants had increased damage resistance so it was harder to snipe them out of their seats. The Halo 3 vehicles would actually go rather nicely with the new additions (custom loadouts and personal ordnance).

I have the Wheelman armor mod, but it’s not enough. It helps protect against Plasma Pistols at least, but the result still isn’t much better than Halo:Reach when you can still be easily sniped out of your seat (or blown up) by a DMR. Light vehicles like the Ghost and chaingun Warthog are especially bad.

I completely agree

Give it up with the DMR ruins my life crap…

Every vehicle in the game presents a big fat easy target and therefore you get group targeted and go down super fast. Everyone takes cover so they don’t get there head taken off and they take pot shots at the vehicles until they go down. Then everyone comes out of their fox holes and plays Halo again.

The Mantis is basically immortal if you use it correctly. It’s basically a Spartan but several times larger. You should expect to still have to take cover. That’s why it has the ability to crouch. And you can easily take out enemies that come too close by stomping with the melee button. I personally don’t see enough of the latter.

As far as other vehicles go, it’s always about timing and tactics. If you think you’re going to get mad kills by rushing in with the Gauss hog, you’re a complete idiot. Same goes for the other vehicles.

Tanks should sit behind your allies. That way you have less chance of being stunned/boarded, and if you do get stunned/boarded, you have allies nearby to help you.

Banshees should never go too far ahead unless they have a specific intended target. In which case they should hit it and then quickly fall back.

Warthogs are typically best for transport and support. They can get you where you need to be quickly, and they can take heat off of allies. Gauss hogs should hang back and pick off distant enemies–this often requires a patient driver and gunner. I would imagine rocket hogs aren’t too different.

Ghosts should use their agility to flank the enemy and either distract them or kill them quickly, depending on the terrain.

How about some classic big team playlists? The warthog is completely useless most of the time, even with the support package operator. I say they should have the classic playlist only have ghosts, mongooses, and warthogs. That way the vehicles can be viable without the mantis and DMRS destroying my damn gunner. Also make it BR, Carbine, and AR only, this will make a lot of players happy and want to play this game. We were PROMISED a classic playlist at launch, if I’m not mistaken. Surprise, Surprise we won’t have one.
