OPINION: Soundtrack Samples

So, after listening to the samples released for a few days, I feel that I have a good idea of what my opinion on the music is. For the most part, it sounds great. However, I must say, reading what other people are writing, you are being blinded. Whereas Neil’s music is great, Marty’s is legendary. He created some of the best music ever heard in the video game industry. I am willing to wait until I hear the whole soundtrack before I cast judgement completely, but so far, it’s good, but not what a Halo game deserves.

Now onto the actually samples released. Some are amazing! Others, not so great. My favorite is most likely To Galaxy. My least favorite is most likely Revival. Am I the only one who see’s the problem with it? The chanting is horrible! It sounds like they are all separated from each other, they don’t sound like they are chanting together. If that is the only reference to the ancient monks in Halo 4’s soundtrack, I will be severely disappointing.

The remixes are really making me mad. I know, they won’t be in the actual game, but some, like The Beauty of Cortana, could totally make the game better if not for the crap added to it. Just listen to The Beauty of Cortana, all though the beginning, I thought it was one of the best on the soundtrack, I could truly see that Cortana was turning rampant, then the metal kicked in all of a sudden! I was shocked that they could ruin the song that bad! I really loved it, with kind of a Bioshock feel, then it went on a downward spiral. Hopefully, Neil puts it in, not remixed by Apocalyptica!

I truly wonder if I am the only one that thinks most of the samples revealed are not so great. I can accept all of the gameplay changes, but I can’t accept changes to the music, the music is what got me into Halo, what made me a huge fan! Aside from To Galaxy, the music sounds like it could be in a crappy action movie, generic, it doesn’t make me feel anything.

tl;dr- The music doesn’t feel like Halo, I will wait until the final product to cast judgement, but I don’t feel that Neil Davidge is a good successor to Marty just yet.

And if you made it to the end, have a cookie (::slight_smile:

That’s basically my opinion in brief.

Ya, I mean, I still listen to Halo 2’s soundtrack, I don’t see myself listening to anything in the samples, except maybe To Galaxy, but that still isn’t as good as most of Marty’s work.

Awakening is the only one i like so far everything else dosnt wow me and those remixes the DJ’s made are absolutely terrible imo, the music is actually night club style music i find it really comical.

The remixes are not going to be in the game, they are a bonus soundtrack you can buy when the original soundtrack comes out. It explains at the top of the article.

As for the original soundtrack, I like it. I like the electronic feel Neil brought to it. Feels like Halo to me.

Huh, I seem to remember saying that I know they won’t be in the game… and having electronic music for a futuristic game! That’s so original! Therefore the best music that could be in Halo!

The chanting has a deeper meaning if you have read the books.

Um, I have, I don’t remember any chanting, unless it’s in the latest Greg Bear novel because I haven’t read that one yet.

Yep it’s in the latest Greg Bear novel haha.

A chant was used to open a Cryptum

Ah, OK, I couldn’t resist the spoiler, I’ll read it eventually, I’m more excited for The Thursday War though!

So am I! It isn’t out until after Halo 4’s release is it?

Actually, my least favorite is “To Galaxy”. It’s not bad at all. It’s just my least favorite.

My favorite is either “Ascendancy” or “Awakening”.

Considering it has the Chief and Forerunner ships on the cover, I’d guess that it will release after, so everyone has time to finish the campaign. I seriously can’t wait, Glasslands was awesome.

Edit: Oh, ha, no, it’s released in October!

What I didnt like about glasslands that suddenly everyone started to hate Dr. Halsey.

Halo 2 was probably my favorite soundtrack, but I also like the music in Halo 4 lol.

Listen to this.

Thank me later.

Bet you loved Beauty of Cortana

That’s one of the best parts of the books to me. I originally thought Halsey was misunderstood, but during Glasslands, I started to realize just how much of a -Yoink- she is. I mean, not only does she think she is better than everyone, she shunned her daughter, and to top it all off she led a program that kidnapped little kids and turned them into killing machines. The great part is that I didn’t start realizing it until the characters did, which to me, is excellent writing.

Ya, I’ve heard that, I’m still sticking with my opinion, it’s not as good as Marty’s work. It’s great, better than most video game music.

I know how you feel. While Neil’s music is good, I don’t think the style of music is as iconic or as memorable as Marty’s work. I believe Marty’s musical background, creating jingles like Flintstone’s Kids, aided him in creating music that is very recognizable and catchy.
