Opinion: Classic Playlists Will Remain Underpopulated.

For the simple fact that what you think will be the ‘true classic’ experience won’t be that still and people will hate that. Also think of the new players who aren’t used to Halo 1 gameplay either, they’ll hate that also. Let’s look at some issues.

Hit scan: As powerful as the Megalo custom scripting engine is in Reach, I highly doubt they can change a core game engine thing such as hitscan to bullet travel. I mean, they’d need to add in all sorts of calculations, bullet animations in air, all this sort of stuff. They can’t change hitscan.

Hit boxes: While I would disagree hit boxes are A LOT bigger than 1’s, they are different. Perhaps more forgiving, or just bigger in some regards, either way, I doubt that can change hitboxes. That is integral on the most integral thing in game, player models!

Physics: You will not be able to grenade weapons your way, or power ups. Physics are once again, a core thing of the engine and recalculating all this…I find impossible with a custom game scripting engine.

Weapons: The AR is 32 rounds, can they change it to 60? I think THAT could be done…maybe…but what about all the other weapons in the sandbox now or weapons that have been changed a lot? Can they make the needler a worthless piece of crap again? Slow it’s projectile speed and tracking? Will they be able to add plasma stun back to the plasma rifle? What about the plasma pistol? What if you hold it in for a charge, will it drain battery like it does in core Reach or not, like it didn’t in Halo 1? What about grenades? Greandes were MUCH more powerful in Halo 1. Bigger blast radius and if you were in the blast radius at all, almost all of your shields were stripped. Will they do this? What about the TSK pistol and the DMR? The pistol in Reach can’t go as far as Halo 1’s could, and I think in the multiplayer vidoc they said they’d keep the DMR in for longer ranges.

Movement: Will they get fall damage right to where you take damage from falling from even 10 feet? What about movement speed? What about your butter shoes where you could hardly climb anything compared to Reach? Will they fix this?

Vehicles: What about the indestructible vehicles? What about the slightest nudge from one and dieing on spot? People who claim they want perfect Halo 1 also want this. Will they do this?

I highly doubt they’ll do the things I mentioned, these were all part of Halo 1, Halo 1 fanatics want Halo 1…they won’t get this. I believe when they realize this, they will be mad and quit again, furthermore I believe newer players to the franchise won’t have any interest in a CoD esque playground, but worse. No bloom, three shot kills with TWO weapons then, DMR and magnum, possible rapid fire 60 round ARs…they’ll want a real Halo experience for what Halo evolved into I think.

But, what about you? I gave my opinion. Give your’s.

It doesn’t matter to me. If its amply looked after, then I’ll be playing it till Halo 4.

Same. It’s not so much that they deliver a perfect Halo CE experience, just a Halo experience, as opposed to Reach.

I don’t want just Halo CE in multiplayer. Yes it would turn out horrid, but I want a mix of Halo:CE and 2/3. I want the best aspects of all those experiences in one and it to work well. It might sound impossible but what we are getting from the TU will be wayyyyy better than Reach vanilla.

If they wanted to make the perfect CE experience, they’d simply TU the crap out of Halo CE: PC’s netcode and make it better.

I created a thread like this a few weeks ago, it got deleted.

No. the difference is halo anniversary is its own game. It will generate, if im guessing well, at least 25k players.

Agreed, but people forget that the gametypes used in the Anniversary Playlists will be available for download and use in Custom Games so even those without Anniversary will be playing them in customs with default reach maps.

The Classic Playlists may remain ‘unpopular’ but the Custom Games will spike right back up.

They’re not out to make Halo 2 multiplayer, they are out to give Reach a more classic Halo experience not a spitting remake of an old games multiplayer.

It could be Halo: Reach classic?..

I don’t know why they just don’t give everyone Halo 2 MM with all the good maps over the years in shiny new graphics.

As much as I hate to say it I have to agree with everything you said. With Reach’s very easy to use Sniper it will make everything very easy. Also, This game is “Noob Friendly” so yes a lot of the new players will dislike this play list. But, as long as I can find a game in the play list I’ll be fine with it. I don’t want those really bad players in the play list anyhow. Especially the ones who rely on their AA’s to play the game and actually get kills or stay alive.

Think of it this way. Most people will play the classic playlist for nostalgia. And although all those facts you stated were true, and it will deter some people from returning, most still would want to. Several friends and I play the current classic playlist which is obviously MUCH more different but it’s still so amazing because it does somewhat feel like Halo 1.

I agree that it’ll be underpopulated…but not quite for the same reasons the OP is suggesting.
I honestly think that the population of people who want a truly “classic” Halo experience is smaller than it acts.
Simply put, I just think that there are few players who actually want to play CE’s multiplayer for any reason other than nostalgia, and out of the few that do, a fair amount are probably getting their fix via LAN, CE PC, XLink Kai, and Xbconnect. That just leaves the players who want CE multiplayer…but for one reason or another decided that Reach was preferable to any other alternative.
