Opinion: Bring Back the Didact & Warden Eternal

Didact shouldn’t return, his story is done and dusted albeit in the comics. It breaks too much lore to bring him back or makes the comics non canon which itself is a bad idea.

The warden eternal as an enemy was good the first time… And the second time as it’s like damn son he’s persistent… Then by the end of the game it was like “oh, another warden, hurray” they got stale and weren’t actually enjoyable so he can just get lost in sub space

The Didact shouldn’t have even been included in Halo 4, given how much retcon and mental gymnastics was necessary to shoehorn him into the story. It took three books and a series of short films added as Terminals in order to justify how this one guy can be in two places at the same time, yet his appearance still contradicts lore in countless places.

If anything, I’d rather want the real Didact to return, as initially conceived by Bungie, the tragic hero who had to activate the Halo array from the ark 100,000 years ago and killed his lover in the process, then left the Milky Way in shame for what he did. Not the cheap knock-off cartoon villain that 343 created.

And no, I do not need anyone to try and explain this nonsense about “Ur-Didact” and “IsoDidact”, I already know and I don’t care. That was nothing but 343 gaslighting: “No, no! See, our Didact is actually the real Didact, and the one that Bungie initially created is actually the copy”

Prometheans need to be left in the dirt where they belong.

No, just absolutely no.

Oh god no, luckily they are not in Infinite, it would be a too painful memory of h5 if they was in the game, prometheans might get some sort of mention in game like a cutscene etc, same as Locke and Osiris, was just too unpopular to continue

Yes please! The Didacts isn’t technically dead yet.

If they brought back the Didact it would have be a non-Canon DLC Because he was killed off in the comics legitimately but I would like tk see how they do it, and Warden Eternal would have to be completely re-designed to fit in Infinite gameplay but I expect to see the warden when Cortana makes her assault on what’s left zeta halo or whatever 343i has planned for her and future campaigns.

Personally I just can’t agree that Didact was anywhere near as cool as the villains of the original trilogy. The Flood, The Covenant, Tatarus, The Prophets… they were awe-inspiring and both beloved and hated at the same time, because the games and their storytelling was brilliant. I believe and hope that Infinite will recapture some of that with Infinite.

Didact, and especially Warden Eternal, felt just kind of dry and evil for no real reason. Didact has decent backstory from the books, but playing the game as a standalone (which is how the majority of the audience experiences it) he was very dry imo. Warden also just felt like a silly excuse to throw in a boss fight, so nah I gotta disagree on both accounts.

An acronym for The next 72 hours.

I think they were both pretty boring, in my opinion. And I think the new Banished villains are a lot more interesting.

New banished villains are great, happy if they went with atriox as main villain.

I can live without the Warden coming back. He always seemed like a poor-man’s Didact anyway.
I honestly wouldn’t mind if 343 soft retcon’d his ‘standing down’ from Cortana, as her actually deleting his consciousness from whatever repository he crawled out of.

The Didact on the other hand, I think has plenty of untapped potential. Having been bested by Chief twice, I think they could inject a little humility into him and make him a more rounded character.

They ruined the didacts story, so unless Infinite makes room for his return I don’t see why he should. I’d rather stick with the banished, and hopefully get a persistent threat/enemy that doesn’t change every 5 seconds.

Burning through characters like a pyromaniac does matches.

He’s not. Period.

To expand on this, the Didact was Composed on Installation 03, and in his debriefing on the issue the Master Chief told the top brass that he believes the Didact to only be “contained” and not a present threat. With the Domain being broken wide open and the Created threat at the conclusion of Halo 5, it is entirely possible that the Didact could become a major figure.

I agree, I would love to see at least warden eternal. those two had a better arc compared to the banished in my opinion.

Ok, so Composed Didact is officially the coolest expansion for this game.
