OPINION!: Armor Customization

In my opinion, Halo 3 had the best armor customization so far. Why do I think this? Halo 1 and 2 just had the regular spartan with the addition of elites in 2. Reach was the worst to me. The idea for customization is so that people can make their spartan look more individual. Reach did this over the top, there were so customization options, like armor effects for example, that people just looked strange. They also had the World of Warcraft mentality where the armor you unlock gets bigger as you get a higher rank. I mean, security! Security shoulders were huge! Now Halo 3, we just had many variants of helmets, shoulders, and chests. This was great, everyone looked like they could be a spartan in the campaign. I would like this to be what Halo 4 is like, albeit, with more armor types that are similar to Halo 3, and the addition of parts like knee guards, visors, etc… all the Reach additions that did not make the spartan look weird like armor effects and such.

i actually like this idea.

i think spartan customazation is very important. i would personally like Reach’s costpomazation options but with better armor. i like the way the spartan 4s look, and i would like more armor in that style.

they said there would be more armor customazation than there was in Reach, so lets hope for the best

Agreed. It was so humorous seeing players in Reach with their gigantic puffy armor; it made them look hideous. I just stuck to my sleek ODST helmet and shoulders.

I bet that if there was no armor customization, than a lot of people would stop playing multiplayer. That was one of my cons of Halo 2, and part of the reason why I still play Reach.

?

If you don’t play a game because players have little customisation then you seriously need to re-shuffle you priories. We play games for the gameplay not because of the amount of different hats we can wear. If you like customisation that much then go play Team Fortress 2.

The Spartans looked their best in Halo3 but the Reach system has plenty of potential to work.

I’m not really trying to say that they should remove customization. I’m just suggesting going back to a Halo 3 style where you aren’t able to make your spartan look however you like, it should still be a spartan that 343 could put in campaign and people wouldn’t think “What the -Yoink!- is he wearing!”

Reach’s armor customization was far superior to Halo 3’s. Just because you find someone’s spartan to look silly doesn’t mean Reach customization fails. Reach had so many options it made your spartan feel individual even if someone else had the samething. Also some people like big and puffy, let them have it. Honestly I hope we see more armor variants in Halo 4.

Well, as long as there’s the armour from every previous Halo game as well as new armour, I don’t mind.

I agree. I think Halo 4 is going to be good for customization from what I have seen.

Actually, although Reach had more customization than Halo 3, I felt there was not enough customization in Reach. It was cool initially, but whenever I play online now, everyone uses the same stuff.

I feel this is because of the availability of armor pieces. Since the majority of the armor options required you to be a certain rank to purchase it, people tended to just buy the thing they unlocked most recently as if to show off their rank to others.

I personally would like to see everything (with a few exceptions) to be available day 1 of the game’s release, and the prices to be around the same. That way, people are more inclined to wear what appeals to them instead of what costs the most.

Halo 3’s armour, Reaches’ variety. I liked halo 3’s armoReach had many choices, but just got too bulky. I want a bunch of variety, but quality. So far, it looks amazing. Soldier and scout are my favorite helmets so far.

That would probably be the best way, make everything available from day one. I agree, every time I play half the players have gungir helmets, which looked the worst!!! However, from a game makers stand point, this would decrease replay value. One reason people play COD is so that they can unlock everything and get the highest rank. Taking away armor unlockables would take this drive away. If they added another variable, not titles or emblems please, that could be unlocked it may work.

I have to disagree. The player models in H3 were hideous; that is why I played as an elite. There also weren’t enough options in H3.

^ Hey there Capn’ don’t diss the Gungnir helmet

Customization is a tough word to spell.

I agree with you OP. I disliked some of the customization options in Reach. Things like visor color and armor effects made little sense to me.

Well I am not saying that it should be turned back into Halo 3. I would just like the armor selection to be better. Like, for example, I would like more variations of armor like the pilot and eva helmets. They’re just a little different. I don’t want so many helmets that they run out of ideas, like the Gungnir(sorry. didn’t like it!)

Armour affects were taking it a bit far, but fun nonetheless. Visor color is fine though.

Tho I kind of agree and disagree with you OP, but here’s the thing.

Yeah Halo 3 had some great armor customization, but I also think Reach had some great armor customization as well, Halo 3’s was more simple, you had your helmet, chest, and shoulders, Halo Reach took that same set up, and added to it, gave you more options, and a lot of people like having lots of options, why? Because they’re OPTIONS, you don’t have to use all of the armor parts, you don’t have to customize your spartan to the point that it stands out. Hell, I think my spartan is very normal, it’s not big and bulky, but it’s also, not really default.

Yeah, you may not be happy with having a ton of customization like in Reach, but that’s you, and it’s all optional, no one is forcing you to do it.

I don’t see how Reach’s armor customization was worse than H3’s. Yes, H3’s was typically slimmer, but what if you wanted to be bulky? Reach allowed for both slim and bulky armor, as well as everything in between. And if a player wants lightning shooting out of him, then by all means let him have it.

> Reach did this over the top, there were so customization options, like armor effects for example, that people just looked strange. They also had the World of Warcraft mentality where the armor you unlock gets bigger as you get a higher rank. I mean, security! Security shoulders were huge!

I definitely agree with this. It’s harder to take the game seriously with birthday sounds and hearts floating around every other person I kill. Some of the armor too is over the top, but that doesn’t bother me as much. I’m all for changing your spartans helmet, shoulders, chest, visor color, etc. though. And I definitely want more of a variety to choose from in those categories.

Going to have to disagree with you. Especially since I don’t get bothered with people wearing large armor pieces or if confetti exploded from their brains like a pinata.

You said you want people be feel more like an individual, yet you want to keep it limited? That makes little sense.
