Operation: REBIRTH

Just as 343i is giving new life to the Halo franchise, the title update will give new life to Reach. I feel the most suitable time to release the title update is on Reach’s anniversary itself. This will begin a new cycle for Reach as the pre-TU cycle is coming to a close.

If releasing Halo: Anniversary on the tenth anniversary of the franchise is significant, why shouldn’t the title update be released on Reach’s anniversary?

Because at that point they could have potentially lost their wavering fan base to the CoD series (two CoD titles have the top two slots for Online Xbox Game, with a third CoD slated for November will mostly likely either grab the third spot or push one of the other two down and out).

This. Reach had the unfortunate nature of having a blockbuster game bigger than itself release two months after. It’s fan base was sliced. Demographics of player count show that for at least a week after Black Ops dropped, the Reach population was routinely <50,000. It never got back to that 300,000 people it had before, not even at Christmas time. Modern Warfare 3 is going to devistate it. Releasing the Title Update closer to anniversary is a good idea. As silly as it sounds, I think it would have been better to release them together. Now that offers a good business question:

“Should 343 be more focused on drawing in Reach haters or preserving its current fans from M.W.3?”

Neither really. 343 needs to focus on how to fix the issues in Reach so they can be avoided in H4. The fans may leave for MW3, but they will be back with Halo 4, at least to see if 343 delivers.
