So, we know Halsey was talking to Spartan Locke and she knows ONI is going to kill her and someone else. Who is another one? It’s the Master Chief. So, this is my speculation. We saw confirmation of Master Chief’s death in Halo 5 TV Commercial. ONI officially announced he is dead on Meridian. This is how it explains to me. I think the Halsey’s opening scene of Halo 5 was taken during the event of Halo 6. And Halo 6’s time line is most likely to be set between 2558 to 2560 as I think. All Halo 5 trailers are related to Halo 6 than Halo 5 in my opinion. Locke stated Chief as the traitor and Chief has done something very dangerous to humanity and Locke is began to treat him as danger in Halo 6. And John-117 was officially dead in 2560. When the conflict against Cortana ends, then Locke or other ONI agents secretly execute/assassinate Master Chief. That is why ONI announced MC’s death. Thought?

I think you’re thinking too hard. No one would spend that much money on ads just to develop a plot for a game succeeding a game that hasn’t been released yet.

ONI factors in Halo 5 little, if at all, so that opening statement really had no meaning as far as I can tell.
There have been many people who come onto the forums and say the Hunt the Truth ad campaigns will play into Halo 6. And that in Halo 6 Chief will once again go AWOL or rogue and he will be hunted down and confirmed, “killed” by ONI.
These ad campaigns made it seem like Chief purposely awoken these Guardians and was blamed by ONI. And in doing so, they sent Osiris to hunt him down and bring him home or to execute him.
But it’s kind of hard to do that when Cortana was addressing all the races in the galaxy at the end of Halo 5 of her presence and that she’s willing to decimate anyone who goes against her plans. And in Halo 5 Osiris was sent to retrieve Cortana and Blue team, there would be no reason for ONI to once again order that. Blue and Osiris are on the same page by the end of Halo 5 and any internal conflicts would not pan out well and we’d have an even more condescending story than Halo 5.
I’m sorry to say but I don’t think ONI will ever play that much of a huge role in future installments of the games. I could argue Halo 4 had waaaay more to do with the Hunt the Truth ad campaign then Halo 5 did. Chief has gone AWOL twice before Halo 5. It’s a done deal, I’m burnt out on the Chief going AWOL idea. 343 ruined a perfect chance to make an engaging and interesting story. Halo 6 will no doubt be the epic team up against the big baddie just like Halo 3 as all the games reflect their predecessors.
But interesting theory at least, I’ll give props for that.

The reason they said 2560 was just a mistake. They actually had a cannon letter from Michael Sullivan to Osman about the mistake and something about the “heat of the moment.”
I have to agree that I don’t believe that they would be giving any signs of what the next plot of the next halo will be.

Said Doctor Cathrine Halsey. I have yet to hear an explanation. I have speculated that this is a hint at where the story is ultimately going. I don’t think it from Halo 6. But I do think there is a lot more to this scene that whats in H5.
