I wouldn’t mind it being open worldish like they where going to do with reach.
I’m on the boat of making the game “open world” like halo CE. I’d rather have a small change back to the roots over changing a linear style campaign into an open world.
At first I didn’t like the idea but the more I think about it the more I’m liking it, Halo could be really cool in the open world space and could be the breath of fresh air it needs.
It’s what should be done so long as they approach it smartly, it needs to build off of the pillars that make Halo fun. I think a good thesis for this concept is taking the level Silent Cartographer, but removing all scripted aspects from it. You’re the one who decides how to attack the island, you’re the one that calls in the Warthog and the Rockets, and so on and so forth - or maybe you decide to do it in a completely different way.
Even though I’d like to see an entire Halo ring in HI. I fear they might make the game to much like destiny to accomplish it. Not that I mind a social space and lots to do, its just 15 mins of stuff to do every time. Do a strike thats about 15 min, play a crucible 10ish min, do these bounties 15 min, do this mission 15-20 min. arghh. I feel its trying to give me ADD. If Halo is going to have different things make them different lengths if possible. Missions need to be 30 to 40 minimum, Firefights 25ish, gonna have daily challenges again I hope they take an hour or two plus.
If their is a fast travel option make us have to go to a portal like one of the towerrs in the engine demo. If we need to call in a warthog have us pop smoke and hold the LZ from enemies to earn the ride.
I did have a thought on if they could make an entire ring and if they have all the factions in the game, UNSC, Covenant, Banished, Created, and the Flood. Have each group holding a portion of the ring. They could have Firefights and Spartan Ops like missions to defend the UNSC borders and bases, along with attacking the other factions. Along with this they could have the UNSC gain ground and gain bases if the Halo gamers complete enough challenges for the week. If not then the UNSC losses ground. This could effect social spaces and portals. Of course this would be all end game stuff after the campaign, because if the multiplayer in H5 is suppose to be a simulation on a holodeck it would be taking place in the between H5 and HI, right?

I don’t want Halo to be anything like Destiny. I’m just not sure how an open world Halo would work, but I prefer traditional levels i think.
what does open worldish mean? like silent cartagropher? that would be nice, but i’d also would like to see linear levels like in every halo game so far with a clear linear story. not everything has to be open world. a good mix would be nice.
if open worldish means like a “real” open world game: i’m completly against that. these worlds must be filled with something. if not, it would just be some empty space. and juding from other open world games which were released recently, i fear that the concept would just be used to implement a grind alongside an intrusive microtransaction system. also: most things in open world games you can do, are more or less pointless and are just there to fill the world. that also includes useless sidemissions just to stretch the game.
another exampel would be halo 3 ODST. i think it was fine, but i can totally understand when people say the new mombassa street thing inbetween missions was boring and pointless, bc there was nothing in it (except audio logs and a few enemys). i liked it, bc it was like a little break inbetween missions and i could sneak around covanant.
they could build off of what CE and ODST did which were the closest halo has gotten to a open world campaign and the description of the slipspace engine makes me think its gonna be semi or full on open world or just giant levels like Halo and the silent cartographer on CE
Maybe in a level that earlier Halos has had. I simply dont prefer too much empty environments in an FPS, unless its meant to represent empty wasteland like Fallout. But in a story driven FPS with a set main character the more linear design fits better.
Whether an open world is good or a bad thing is about the game itself, I dont always get as to why some proudly present that their game map is x amount bigger than some other games, what matters for me is what is on that area.
i hope its open world, it’d be awesome

yea it would to explore a halo ring it would be amazing especially if its installation 07 as its believed to be
I always wanted an open-world Halo, but now that its a possibility, I’m not sure how to feel about it. how would multiplayer work, will we just see random spartans wondering around aimlessly? what about the campaign?

Bold - I 100% agree with these statements. I want Halo CE type open worldish. Heck even halo 2-3 style levels, but either way I still want levels. I like levels.
If Halo goes open world like say the elder scrolls series, then I’m 100% against that. I don’t want RPG Halo and doing fetch quests and stuff like this.
To me it would be very interesting to roam in a open world.
I don’t really know how they’d execute an open world game (my mind defaults to RPGs, but I know there’s other options), but if they were to open it up a little like in Halo CE that’d be great.

Man that sounds so cool of an idea. Imagine an Assault on the Control Room but a full Air Assault?
If they make it open world, I’m gonna get so lost so quick, but it’ll be a great excuse to explore! lol
