Open World? (Hopefully)

Hey Guys. Quick discussion on Halo Infinite (So Hyped) so, supposedly the game will take place on a Halo Ring, which are pretty big. So thats why i’m hoping that it is open world. Part linear, With some side-quests you could do across the map. Or at least something like Prey or Doom where you had one main champaign and had optional tasks to reveal more from the story, maybe some easter eggs here and there. Anyway, Short forum, cya everyone.

Clickbait or just plain lunacy?

Defiantly do not want open world for several reasons but given the “returning to its roots feel” I imagine the campaign will remain linear as it should be.

Yeah I think everyone knows it takes place on a Halo ring people do know Halo is big since Combat Evolved

But a open world with Side quests, and all that mentioned isn’t Halo, mostly feels like a Realistic Borderlands really (Minus the loot)

agreed, sort of open world but also part linear making it a different but still similar game. Making it somewhat open world would give alot of replay ability, although i dont know how skulls would work (maybe in side missions?)

No thanks. A lot of games that weren’t designed for open world get ruined by trying to go that route. Example: MGSV. Yes it was fun, but it was nowhere near as good as a metal gear game should be. It lacked story, depth, and the gameplay just felt wrong.

I’m a big supporter of linear levels for halo but it would be cool if every level or at least a couple levels had maybe little things you could do to discover something you wouldn’t normally find just running through the game. For example, maybe you could do a sequence of things that would open a locked door and reveal something to do with lore or a terminal, etc.

If it’s on a Halo ring we could be looking at linear yet still open style of levels, like Halo CE

I dont know how I feel about an open world game with Master Chief…id be open to a game that isnt centered around master chief but your own spartan…and if they did that im sure they’d hop onto the destiny boat of always online open world game…idk if i want that

I’m hoping for Halo CE style levels, with maybe optional objectives and more to find around the maps (as in Skulls, Terminals, Halo 5 style data drops etc). Generally speaking, though, Halo going open world wouldn’t really be necessary. In fact, I think the restrictions that come with open world design would just send the game in the wrong direction. Halo was always a multi-level game, and there really is no proper justification to change that. We ARE talking about a fairly standard FPS shooter after all…

And it goes without saying that going open world usually has an immediate effect on the story (someone mentioned MGS5), and God knows the last thing Infinite’s story needs is more restrictions.

This is My second Forum. No Hate, If you don’t like it, just, don’t respond T^T

There’s one thing we want from this open-world: outer space travel; explore so many different worlds and even fight in space

Yes, me too. More missions like Long Night of Solace would be great imo.

I genuinely hope it won’t be open world for several reasons. My main concern is how much has to be sacfrificed in terms of in-game level and gameplay quality ( AI, mechanics, map design etc.) just to slap the term ‘open world’ on the cover. cough mgsV cough

I completely agree. I can’t see Halo being an open world game. It defnately needs to remain linear like it always has.

Maybe sometime in the future but Halo right now is in such a delicate state right now with fans. It would be too risky to try anything new just yet.

halo felt open world… imagine halo CE with animals… halo original wanted animals but couldnt… now we got more powerful gear we deff can have animals in all the empty space. no open world.

I would think this is the best time to try something new. Halo is not the console selling powerhouse it used to be. As for the fans, many have already gone, some remain, and as aother forum member once stated, there’s a portion of the community that would be happy with a new Halo 3 every two years.

I think this is a perfect opportunity for 343i to try something new in Halo. I believe an open world Halo would work very well, I would like to see a lot of what we lost put back into the game, and I love the look of the engine demo too.

However, Halo also needs to evolve.

While I would like an open world Halo at some point, a main series entry is not the place to do it.
Bungie made ODST’s hub an open world sort of, and that worked really well for the story they wanted to tell.
At most, we could get more Combat Evolved style missions. Silent Cartographer for example was “open” in the fact it was one large island with multiple ways to complete the objective. Do you go open the door first or go to the cartographer then go open the door?
That kind of mission design is what I believe made Halo CE so good. And I’d like to see more of that in Infinite.

i would like to see new things, not just the remakes of the past, lets grab the best missions and add something new. Halo is a shotter not an adventure game, so the open world is out of the question (for me), ODST is a great game but is not the main game. another example halo wars work awesome with reqs and its not the main game.
I would like to see an opne wolrd on a halo ring even the ark but not in the main.
