I am getting real sick of dirty noobs screwing me with super OP gausehogs, any agree that they’re crazily over powered?? Anyone got a strategy to deal with them? The only thing I have found that works AT ALL is Arbiter rage mode, and he still gets owned by then even without a d-bomb.
Tanks for unsc and hunters or wraiths for covie.
I wouldn’t say they’re OP. I’m not a noob but I’m also not super high level and I use them from time to time, but I find that my competitors can usually handle them unless I put other units with them.
I will admit, though, that if you are Anders and all you do is build hogs and tech up to Gauss as quickly as possible, you can have an early game advantage
how do people handle them against you then?

I build Gauss hogs all day long and they are not that OP. It’s easy to spot - you just need to know how to counter them…
If you are anders/UNSC - Gremlins/Tanks/Cobras
If you are Covie - Wraiths/Hunters/Leader/Ghosts/Choppers
The choppers/ghosts are a bit harder to do seeing as they both aren’t as effective as gauss, but you can keep them down and move as quickly as they do. The choppers do more damage to bases as well… and the ghosts can boost/ram without damaging base health to them.
If you don’t scout and counter gauss - that is your own fault… Sorry, but there is no other way of saying it. I get stomped using gauss a lot of times… It’s just about playing smart.
I checked some of your games. First of all your skill level is pretty low.
For example:
http://halowars.com/stats/StatsPlayer.aspx?id=CE12F7B63152D49BCDD8A27E2C250B229A55F508CA093495D787AC7E86FCE618&mode=
You are making banshees against gauss hogs. That does not make any sense. You cannot just decide “I will do banshees”. You have to scout your enemy and build units that make sense.
Also your failure seems to be slow unit production. Your opponents have 40 gauss hogs while you and your team mate have only 13 banshees and 8 hunters. You have build your first banshee at 8 min 11 s. That is way too slow. You should have your first banshee out about 3.5 minute mark (if you go to citadel).
Your teammate has also very weird build. He has build 3 x warehouse, 1 x temple, 1 x shield, 1 x hall and 1 x summit. That does not make any sense. He cannot keep up supply production with 3 x warehouse to effectively use the hall and the summit.
The problem is not overpowered gauss hogs. You are just playing too badly. Your opponents have higher TS than you or your teammate. I think you should first learn the basics and then worry about OP builds and units.

YES!
You sir - need to learn how to build your base to get units out effectively. Learn to play better, by learning what is known as a build order.
Great one for covie is…
SP, Temple, SP, SP, SP, (upgrading the SP to Heavy SP {HSP}) and then Citadel, Summit, Summit.
You can then double pump Banshees (always get boost first) and use them effectively to keep expo bases from your opponent from becoming built. Awesomely simple way of doing it
Cheers,

I feel 5 pads 1 airpad is alway better. That last pad adds .1 to your other 4 pads so its kinda like a supper pad
the best way to counter Gauss is with banshee/ upgraded prophet beam. Also instead of shielding your base as covey against Gauss build 4 anti-vehicle turrets. Also if your banshee need support, beam rifle jackles have huge range advantage on gauss and can pick them off from afar.
Jackels counter gauss. Dur dur?
1 base gauss is bad. 2 base gauss is ok. 3 base gauss is good. 4 base is op. If you did your job as covie and denied expos gauss wouldn’t be a problem. But no u go play with yourself early game while unsc grabs expos don’t you?
the best counter to gauss is to stop expansions. the next best counter is 3 canny tanks, then crap loads of hunters or wraiths.

Do not listen to this advice at all. Worst advice ever. I think he is just joking but not sure.
Hogs tear banshee’s apart.
There was some good other advice in this thread already.

There was one piece of good advice though. If there’s going to be a long-term threat of your base being attacked by gauss, like a unsc going straight gauss on frozen valley, don’t go for a shield. Get 2-4 anti-vehicle turrets, and possibly upgrade them to medium turrets. They will protect your base much better than one shield, and kill lots of damage if he ever passes by or attacks. And eventually, they will cost you less than a shield because of the better economy from an extra warehouse.

Yes - I had a kid with a handful of banshees keeping down my expo while hunters were at my main tearing it apart… Nothing I could do… Tier 2 arby, spirit bond hunters, and banshees… I was done for as soon as I lost my hooks and couldn’t retrieve them again. If only I hadn’t gotten raged early and had to run past rebels that F-d up my 5 hogs…
Meh
ROFL. Don’t shield or build 4 turrets. Make units, stop expos and take map control. If you throw up defences u will have no offence. I got a 4 turret base but he’s tripple pumping gauss and making air, my turrets will stop him dur dur. if I hang in a few more minutes I could make some stuff and sit on my base until he runs me over. Good plan. Also as soon as I leave my base to kill one of his my base disappears? Wth is going on?
The turrets should come up later in the match, not in the beginning. Your primary objective as covie is to stop expos/stall.

Like the other guy said, you build the turrets and not a shield lategame. Everyone’s already mentioned that you need to stop expos.

Actually, in most cases for 3v3, the first thing you should do when they get around 10 Gauss units is throw up a shield. Depending on the other team’s combo, say, if they have a Forge or Cutter, they can drop a Mac/Carpet with 15 Gauss Hogs and kill your base in less than 15 seconds on Frozen (Anders will take under 30 to do so). The turrets are still a must, but the trick is knowing when to put them up. Too early and you lose unit production. Too late and you lose your base. But, Medium turrets are too OP against Gauss, so you have to get them. Also, never rely on an Arbiter since they’ll have a D-bomb. You could go for a base trade, but you had better have a lot of Banshees if you’re going to try that on Gauss; it usually doesn’t work out.
In reality, if someone on the other team has been able to get 3 Gauss producing bases up on you, that should mean you’ve been giving his teammates a pretty thorough beating, so finishing them off and collecting your units is ideal. But, if you can’t kill his teammates, find a way to cheese a Gauss expo (Gauss builders almost never upgrade their expos) and kill off a significant number of his units. If you trap them, Gauss will die quicker than any other unit.
Gauss’s biggest advantage lies in its ease of production and its mobility. If you have the ability to ward Gauss off for more than 30 seconds, you need to do it and push on his expo. Always have in mind that wherever you are, the Gauss will be somewhere else. Very few Gauss builders are going to go for the army first; they’ll kill your Covi bases. Cutting their numbers down as much as you can will make it so you’re Covis can defend on their own (assuming they have turrets). If you get this to work out, the UNSC will steamroll their Gauss.

I play as the chieftain 90% of the time… This strat works but gauss hogs will rape banshees unless you really micro the banshees. If you build a hall, maybe two, you can pump out hunters and for me i use brutes as well so i triple pump units within the 5-530 mark… also, build a turret or two. they help alot
