Thing is, if youâre dealing damage and getting kills you are actively suppressing the enemy team and utterly denying them the chance⌠So youâre like. Playing it right.
Like, on CTF? Best way to play is to absolutely smash the enemy team to pieces to prevent them from even playing the objective in the first place.
Oh donât forget! Crossplay plays a huge factor, by the time you pass diamond 2, you better pray you donât got an Xbox lmao⌠Take it from me playing over 1k ranked arena. My highest so far is diamond 5 but went back to diamond 2 after I lost 9 in a row nonstop to heavy cheating PC noobs
I was always being put as me (Xbox player) against 4 PC sweat kids and ironically it always also put mostly Xbox players on my team against PC and guess what⌠No matter how hard you carry your team, no matter how hard you trained to deal with PC kids preferring to match up to you, theyâre almost impossible to win 1v1 lmaoâŚ
PC got an advantage of being able to be much faster especially fps⌠If youâre an Xbox player, youâll easily notice your last 4th burst shot will never kill em they always win. Itâll show you landed & hit all 3 last bullet to the head, but unfortunally⌠With the PC advantage, your shots are useless and wonât hit register so you better always play extremely hard and always make sure you land the first shot, always think 1sec rule.
If you and the PC player both shot each other at the same time. Donât bother⌠You just lost already lmao⌠You better run but youâre likely gonna get crapped on very hard especially when comes to full team of PC players against you. Your only shot to beat em is to camp, run a ton, & 1sec rule your BR you need to hit em first and if your second burst hits em by time they shot first burst, youâre golden!
Also donât bother chasing PC players trying to shoot em in back of head, 80% time it will not register the hits unfortunally⌠Iâve had several times as I chase PC player down, unleashing up to 5 perfect direct burst hit in back of their head while no shield, and they never die unfortunally you need to back off & donât get luredâŚ
One more thing, anytime you see hit registers not registering, thatâs how you know youâre up against PC player and play it extremely safe⌠Remember, PC players also tends to love hooking up m&k and joining the Xbox controller input only even some Xbox players are doing it too unfortunally⌠Best to stay back & camp on em to deal with those cheaters .
Youâll know when theyâre using m&k easily when they persistently land all 4 burst on you & having accuracy higher than 60%, m&k and especially PC are superior in this Halo atm unfortunally⌠Get ready for tons of fun dealing with heavily PC & m&k cheaters youâll meet em after diamond 2
And no thereâs no way to block PC players unfortunally you gotta deal with those cheaters & find solutions to get around⌠PC players & m&k cheaters loves to choose Xbox controller input only and prefers to go against Xbox because of those advantages & Microsoft/343 removed the ability to block PC players for $
Thereâs tons of Xbox players quitting & fed up with this but I havenât gave up yet
Iâm starting to be able to wreck those cheaters hard by blistering my hands & replacing controllers since Iâve been hard on em joysticks kept breaking lmao. But downside is⌠Majority of the Xbox players that youâre forced to have on your team against full pc constantly, youâre likely gonna lose a lot so keep your k/d up and carry your team as much as possibleâŚ
Donât blame Xbox people with horrible k/d while opposing team full of PC sky rocket in k/d, itâs not the Xbox players fault, itâs 343/Microsoftâs fault⌠we cannot kill those PC players easily, hit register wonât work oftenly which is why youll always see PC players heavily rushing & killing you giving you no chance to fire first
Yes, I know this, been playing competitive Halo for 20 years. But up until this point, the majority of the time, winning was everything.
Now for example on CTF, letâs say team pulled flag and itâs a 2v2 and they just killed your flag runner. Itâs more advantageous to bait the flag to kill the enemy and they return the flag instead of continuing the pull and maybe dying on the way to cap.
Why sacrifice yourself when I can get an extra kill or two since winning doesnât really mean much. Itâs all about kills.
This is just nonsense. Iâm a pc player with a top tier PC and the hit registration in this game is awful. Everything you describe about hit detection/registration problems applies equally on PC.
Itâs the trash netcode/servers that cause those problems.
Dude of course, youâre a PC player⌠I never understood why PC player thinks they know if they donât use an Xbox, bBelieve me itâs a lot worse on the Xbox you guys are lucky lmao⌠thereâs a reason why 95% of time PC always beats the Xbox, itâs simple, obviousâŚ
Can go checkout my recent two match history and see me getting crapped on again by PC player/m&k cheater lol⌠14th in row loss to PC players/m&k cheaters in Xbox controller only is just so sad to see how people need to stoop to this embarrassment that they canât play good that they need those advantages
But guess what, it only happens on the PC players, not the Xbox players lmao⌠Iâve tested it over and over and over thatâs how I always know if itâs PC player I donât even bother looking up their profile anymore even if they try so hard to hide PC label I can just check their friends & social game history
I gave up checking because itâs so easy to identify pc players now lmao, itâs also even very easy to see itâs PC player cause if partial of my team thatâs an Xbox player, the moment you see 0-2 kills, 8-15 deaths you automatically know itâs an Xbox player and the opposite is the PC thatâs extremely difficult to kill lol⌠If one of my team got high kills extremely low death, I know itâs PC on my side and Everytime I check profile, itâs always right Everytime
Iâm just dying to see the day where we can actually block PC players like holy crap even if I bring up blocking PC player option, PC players will cry hard not wanting to lose all the advantages & having to deal with fair fight. Even heard he stories from PC players saying controller aim is more superior, well⌠If it is, why are you trying so hard to make sure they stay so you can get crapped onâŚ?
Some logic in people can be incredibly stupid when they donât think first before speaking⌠Stupidest arguments Iâve ever heard when comes to PC players crying about Xbox players asking for option to block, but explains Xbox aim have more advantages⌠Just imagine Xbox players crying about PC asking option to block Xbox because of their superior aim advantages lmao⌠But no, itâs PC crying about being blocked by Xbox so they donât get crapped on hard anymore wtf
I own an Xbox one X, an Xbox series X, and a top end PC. Iâve played on all 3. The netcode feels equally trash on each.
You guys pretending itâs a pc problem are fooling yourselves.
shrug. Proper, safer-to-engage-objective play is being encouraged. Risky plays shouldnât be rewarded, since they have such a high chance of bottoming out into losses.

Yup Iâm pretending, go ahead check my ranked match history, go ahead check the k/d for every games I played for past 6 game history, tell me⌠Which ones Xbox or PC got the highest k/d and which ones for the worst k/d? Better yet, go ahead check through 25 game history Iâve played and lmk which one about 90-95% wrecks with k/d, and about 90-95% serious derank with k/d.
It shouldnât be that hard to figure out the math lmao⌠I just deranked from diamond 5 to about to lose diamond 2 because I canât stop getting some Xbox players on my team & ending up with full pc players Iâm against so I canât help it if I keep losing because my teammates canât seem to figure out how to beat those annoying noobs
At this point idc about rank anymore it is so stupid to force us to play & get -Yoink!- on with PC players overriding our ability to block em⌠I really -Yoink!- miss the old days where it was Xbox controller & console only⌠I shouldnât have to play so damn hard & constantly try help protect my teammates that are Xbox players⌠this is just patheticâŚ
Iâm onyx on Xbox in the crossplay playlist. Using controller.
Considering I play in solo/duo and barely ever actually lose points when I lose, but gain a ton when I win, it probably isnât too hard. Iâm a single point from Diamond 3 and if I felt like it I could probably get to Onyx in a day from there.
Yup Iâm pretending
Indeed you are. Stop making up nonsense.
The problem is the servers.
I just started playing the game this week and i just did my 10 matches today and i litterally got placed in diamond 1 so im assuming if youre good its easy
It depends.
If you have some natural ability⌠it shouldnât take long.
What would Onyx be⌠the top 4-5% (I think the skill distribution is supposed to roughly follow standard deviations from the mean). So 1:20 people - so still a fair chunk of the population.
With hard work you can probably improve to the next tier.
I love Halo. But Iâm not a natural by any means. Iâm getting old and my reflexes are nowhere what they were. About a six months or so ago I made a determined effort to get better (starting with Halo 5).
Aim was to move from high Gold (average player defined) to Diamond.
Watched a lot of videos (Shyway rocks) and took a lot of advice from mates who are naturally better. Focussing a lot on improving accuracy, map movement, and working WITH my team.
Slowly moved my way up to high Platinum. Peaked at P6 in Halo 5. Took this time to get Infinite under control (Iâve been working interstate a lot) - but have been hovering between P5 and P6 for a couple of weeks.
Finally nailed Diamond 1 yesterday! A little bit of luck and only dipped my toes there for one game.
My next, and probably final push is to get to Diamond 3⌠the equivalent of a 50 in Halo 3. But itâs going to take a lot of time and effort (my map movement and effectiveness with power weapons sucks).
I played over 10,000 games of Halo 3 and now I can hit Onyx in any Halo game with no practice just using the knowledge Iâve built up over the years.
So practice and aim is of course helpful and necessary, but the biggest progress you can make is working on your strategy and game sense. Watching YouTube videos and pro gameplay and actively employing your learnings will help a lot. If you get the chance to play with better players then take it, youâll be able to learn a lot.
Donât obsess over your rank, just work on getting better and making good plays more regularly. The rank will come naturally.
Absolutely the best post here. On the entire forum.
Like literally, this is a true winner.
I play on PC and many of the points you made about shooting players first still losing the fight applies to all platforms. The desync in this game is unreal.
As Ken said, donât sweat your rank. Focus on learning the right things and playing mindfully and deliberately and youâll make it to Onyx in due time.
Utilize the Level 3 Weapon Drill for the BR as a warm-up if you can. Try to hit 30,000 score in time. Play a sensitivity thatâs low enough to allow you to comfortably make small stick adjustments. Use your strafe not only as an evasive maneuver, but as a means of following your enemy and tracking them, letting the aim assist do more of the work for you. âLeft stick aimingâ is utterly vital in BR duels.
Go through the maps in customs and develop some starting strats that you can try right off the rip. Ryanoobâs YouTube has a few great videos heâs done explaining his mindset as he plays. Some players are intensely cerebral and can be very conscientious of these factors while they play. Most, I would imagine, are more instinctive and rely more on gut decisions that are honed by skill, practice and chemistry/comms with their team. Donât overthink. Slow down the game as necessary, pre-aim where you know people are going to be and make the necessary adjustments to your style between rounds when you analyze your gameplay.
Finally, youâll hear pros often talk about âplaying your lifeâ. Most Halos, at the competitive level, are heavily team oriented games that are won less by individual heroes and more by teams who stay alive, control firing lanes together and clean up each otherâs kills. Donât go in thinking of nothing but getting kills. Focus on dealing tons of damage while taking as little as you can in the fight. Good positioning and strong damage output leads to kills, which leads to map control, which leads to power weapon/power-up control, objective captures, and ultimately wins.
What do you guys estimate it takes in play time per week to get to an onyx skill level?
I was late to the multiplayer shooter party so first game I ever put any serious time into was halo 5 and by serious time I would estimate maybe a couple hours per week when factoring in work and other daily responsibilities.
All playtime for that game is on a different gamer tag but I started bronze rank and highest rank in halo 5 I got was diamond 1 in slayer. For infinite I currently am sitting at platinum 6 which is really good for me and I estimate I play 30-60min per day. With that amount of play time I can see my rank getting to low diamond, but how much more would I need to play to reasonably be able to grow enough as a player to reach onyx rank?
If you got an xbox, donât bother lol⌠im satisfied with diamond 5 or 6 was my highest but itâs too much heavy grinding & blistering your hands dealing with unkillable pc players. Once you past diamond 2 youll start being put against majority PC players & youâll be set in most of the time with xbox players on your team.
Youâll fine out & be able to tell fast once you & your teammatea are struggling to get a kill, youâll never win 1v1 they always get last shot & even if you hit em, it wont count or register lmao. My advice, wait till crossplay is off, or grind 15hr a day, play 5x your performance, if your thumb skin is coming off & burning, youre doing it right you got a 20% chance to win long as you keep very close eye on your xbox team, always mark enemies for em, & always make sure you carry em & help lower pc players health.
After diamond 4, good luck not being able to hit register them & get used to seeing your xbox team 10 kill total, 50 for pc. Check the k/d to find out pc players so you know how to deal with em in next game, and it helps just a little adding pc players on your team.
Also k/d is pointless, if your xbox team made you lose, itll demote you big time then you gotta win 3-5 in row to make back to it:]

My advice, get a top of the line pc if you want an easy onyx, dont bother with xbox and no, you cant turn off pc players, the reason why is the article from xbox headmaster explaining why we need crossplay, qnyways, goodluck!
Played over 1k ranked games here, xbox playerđ
