Oh no doubt its reaction times and map knowledge. Only practice in swat will make you much better in swat.
But if you can consistently hit 4 headshots on a moving target in slayer you will be better at swat by default.
Improving your aim in a safer environment (slayer) before going back into swat.
Also when your and your enemies 1st shot misses you need to still be able to track the head and hit the second shot.

I started playing Swat today, one of my all time favorites from every Halo game that included it. I played 10 games. I won 6. I did TERRIBLE in each match. I’m talking 20 deaths 5 kills terrible.

I still don’t think Slayer is the best way to go. I’ve played with the top swat players against top slayer players in swat. The slayer kids get stomped.
Breakout is actually much closer to swat. Combines careful movement/positioning with the high stress of having perfect aim or instant death.

Oh i don’t mean its the best way to train for swat.
I just mean if you are getting stomped in swat and dont want to derank.
Play like 5 matches in slayer to make sure your aim is true and on point.
Only played 1 game of breakout so far but yes that would be the next step, like 10 matches or something.
Then by the time you go back to swat you should have much better awareness, aim and reactions. And you should be a bit more competitive to at least start getting kills and start to get better at swat.
Still think if you just keep playing you’ll get better lol
I’m not sure why it’s so hard to come up with a balanced ranking system that EQUALLY takes personal performance and win/lose into account. The fact is, some people don’t have a team to play with all the time and they have to play with randoms, if those randoms suck the player who doesn’t suck shouldn’t get heavily penalized for it, or vice versa.
Personally, I would like to see a ranking system that awards points for wins/loses, k/d, assists, and medals. Points are added/subtracted at the end of the game and your placement is based on this. I also wouldn’t mind just going back to a 1-50 rank like Halo 3 and I think I speak for most of us out there on that. People have been saying this since Reach and for whatever reason, the devs seem to be hellbent on ignoring the request. We don’t NEED 1-50, this system COULD work, but it needs improvement, mainly taking in personal performance and also, you should be able to rank down below your placement. Not ranking down through poor performance is kind of equivalent to giving a kid a trophy in sports for just participating. If you lose it should mean something, same as if you win.
Sadly, the ranking systems seem to be one of those things that both 343 and Bungie have always been really stubborn about changing once it’s implemented. I don’t see them doing anything about it.
Relax. It’ll reset. The squat ranking structure is a little broken at the moment. And besides. The only way to get better is to play against people better then you.

> Maybe if you could reset your rank your self would be a nice touch. Personally I was happy with my rank with swat. For platmiun 1 and now I’m lv 3 only after a few games. Well happy
that would be stupid

> Monthly resets and no deranking makes the ranking system pointless. What’s the point of “skill-based matchmaking” if the skill is reset and the good players stomp on the bad ones every month anyways? Or having to wait an entire month for a reset because the ranking system is far too generous and you’re matched against people you haven’t an icicles chance in hell of beating? Terrible, TERRIBLE idea.

> Bring back deranking. Stop the resets. Cap placement matches at a maximum rank of diamond 1.

have you ever heard of lol or smite?

Are you kidding me. Swat is the epitome of a mode that needs to be ranked.
The only way you’ll get better is by playing against others that are more skilled than you. I understand the frustration, but try looking at it that way.
You’ll get better over time.
I mean… the best way to learn anything fast is to be thrown in the deep end
start swimming
Ya swat gives onyx to everyone.
Its weird.
I think that when you are in your placement matches, they should assign your rank based off of your personal performance but once you start playing ranked games in your division, you go up or down based on victorys and defeats. With the placements based on your skill, you have a higher chance of being placed in a division where the other players are around your skill level instead of getting into ridiculously high ranks because your team won for you. Than once your in that rank and you play games, you can continue with the normal win/loss system because now your actually facing opponents that should hopefully be around the same skill level as you.

Thank you for the laugh. SWAT is one of the most casual playlists that was developed for Halo. Shooting one time is not competitive at all, in my opinion.

lol
Swatnums is far better than BR starts.
As for your problem. Give em the freelo, then you’ll start playing against FLG 180 Scopein Casual noob players.

Why not use it as an opportunity to learn to compete at that level? Grind some Halo and soon you’ll be pushing for Champion rank
Well, that sucks. That said, I dropped a rank yesterday (went up to Platinum 2, then next time I checked I was back at Platinum 1), so there may be hope unless it was just a bug or something.
I’m sure I read somewhere that rank is based on team performance rather than individual performance, so you might have just been randomly matched into an Onyx level team in your placement matches. If anyone can confirm that those are both true (ie, rank can decrease and team performance is what counts) then I would be more than happy to party up and then just utterly, utterly suck in order to lower your rank a bit. We’d need two others who are willing to take a slight stats hit, but I can’t imagine it would be too big a deal, seeing as they could easily increase their rank again afterwards.
